Walkability is becoming a popular buzzword in planning cities that suffers high level of pollution due to, amongst others, emission from automobiles are embracing walkability in order to reap its benefits. In addition to that, walkability is the measure of how satisfactorily the transportation system meets the need of walking of the community. Several studies around the world have put great efforts to highlight the importance of walkability in urban as it is an important measure in determining a better environment. There is a strong relationship between walkability, sustainable transportation and the environment. In addition to that, walkability is a concept that is consistent with sustainable development and transportation system due to its economic, social and environmental benefits. Walkability satisfaction rating within a localized neighborhood can be measured at the macro level with the aid of GIS at the initial development stages. The methods and techniques used are varying and no single walkability assessment tool can be designed to suit different environmental conditions. Different groups of societies for whom the theoretical and practical perception of cities development vary, or different types of neighborhoods with different needs would warrant different approaches. Therefore, this paper examines the methods, techniques and indicators that have been used to measure walkability and highlights the important benefits of improving walkability in the built environment. Moreover it also describes the relationship between walkability, sustainable transportation and environment.

Transport is considered as an important action zone for achieving sustainable development since it takes a significant part in the economy sector with its existence among the production pattern, at geographic ladder [1]. Although, it is evident that the transport sector is responsible for many environmental issues. Riyad city is suffered from severe pollution caused by extensive use of motorized transport. Thus, implementation of appropriate policy tools relieve the harmful effect of transport activities by attaining sustainable transport. This paper pursues to evaluate the sustainability situation of transportation sector in Riyad city by using real data. The current paper ended with some recommendations to achieve sustainable transportation in KSA. Results indicated that the increase of car ownership and travel demand, the low use of public transport, and the rise of air and noise pollution level and the high level of road mortality lead to make the transportation system of Riyad unsustainable. On the other hand, the Saudi government have already started to execute many planned projects to achieve sustainable transportation such as the metro and bus network in Riyad and the installation of charger station of electric vehicle. In addition, the Saudi government set out many policies and target such as Target 11.2 that aims to achieve sustainable transportation in KSA and Target 3.6 that intents to minimize the high mortality rate from road accidents.

The goals of this paper are to reveal the process of institutional effects in higher education and to identify those components that can be classified as being beyond vocational skills. The topicality of this analysis is embedded in the transformation of universities, which can create a new framework for students’ socialization process. Two different methods were used during our research: a questionnaire with students (N = 1502) on a nationwide sample in Hungary and 31 interviews with lecturers. According to our empirical findings, the effects of higher education are very complex, and vocational elements are not the only content that is transmitted. Students can perceive the components of moral effects ata high level, and general knowledge has acquired great importance, too. With the help of the lecturers’ interviews, we can identify the most important aims of the teaching process, which extend beyond the vocational elements, and at the same time, the barriers to and possibilities offered by this transmission.

As the population keeps growing, water source must be distributed efficiently. The objective is to design an IoT based system which supports to monitor and control the water distribution to each home without any human intervention at the first level of initiation. In addition, the system will also help us to identify the leakage in the pipeduct so as to carry out immediate rescue against to the water leakage along the pipeduct. Later on, this idea will be upgraded by incorporating with necessary features for the common usage. The system consists of sensor nodes to note the quantity of water in every house by flow sensors at each instant and sends the data to the cloud using Wireless communication. The information collected could be known by users on the integrated website using their wi-fi connected gadgets slike mobilephones.The device also controls the automatic functioning of water supply by turning it off when the water rises above the high level than allocated to the appropriate huse which was initially fixed by government boards.

Subway advertising has become a regular part of our daily lives. Because the target audiences are high-level consumers, subway advertising can promote the return on investment. Such advertising has taken root in various countries and regions. However, a lack of appropriate oversight, a single-track operating mode of subway advertising, and unclear price standards significantly reduced the expected advertising effects and the reasonableness of advertising quotations. The shared biking services have gained a great amount of attention in the past few years. Besides, more citizens get involved in using public transportation, which provides a basis for analyzing subway passenger characteristics. First, we examined the use of shared bikes around subway stations to obtain the information on passengers’ age. Then, using daily passenger flow volume, transfer lines, and the original subway advertising quotes, we trained backpropagation neural networks and used the results to provide new quotations. Finally, we combined passenger age structure and different passenger groups’ preferences in every station to identify the most suitable advertisement type. Our goal was to make full use of transportation big data to optimize advertising quotations and advertisement selection for subway stations. We also proposed the using of electronic advertising board to help increase the subway advertising profits, decrease the financial pressure of operations, and boost the public transportation development.

AbstractDespite the long and great history, developed institutions, and high level of physical and human capital, the Italian economy has been fairly stagnant during the last three decades. In this paper, we merge two streams of literature: nonparametric methods to estimate frontier efficiency of an economy, which allows us to develop a new measure of output gap, and nonparametric methods to estimate probability of an economic recession. To illustrate the new framework, we use quarterly data for Italy from 1995 to 2019 and find that our model, using either nonparametric or the linear probit model, is able to provide useful insights.
