In building design, architects actively utilize all kinds of methods, such as ventilation and sunshade, to adapt to the hot-humid climate ,which is the main way to create a “green building ”.This paper describes the “climate adaptability ”design tactics in the case of the University Library in the Lingnan region——in a hot-humid climate. Furthermore, this paper gives suggestions by describing the advantages and disadvantages of the typical design practice in order to benefit regional architectural study.

In every nation ancient buildings are rich sources for inspiration from local traditional architecture. Manu of such buildings still have potentials for conservation and renovation. This article reviews the issue of revitalization of old traditional buildings in south part of Iran with hot and humid climate. The key technical challenges of revitalization and renovation of such buildings were explored via literature review. Then, the technical solution for such challenges were identified via cases study analysis. In order to reach comprehensive and practical solutions, tree key field of built environment studies which are architecture, structure and infrastructure design were explored together. The case study for this research was the project of revitalization of a traditional building into “Anthropology Museum of Local Residents” in Kish Island. The analysis and case study showed that most of the technical challenges for revitalization of such buildings are resolvable via simple solutions. Based on this, economic and socio-cultural supports of local authorities and planning departments are necessary in order to make such revitalization projects more feasible.

Thermal comfort performance of three vacant naturally ventilated Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) case study lockups (LK1 in Penang, LK2 in Melaka & LK3 in Kuala Lumpur) was measured during monsoon change period from Northeast Monsoon to Southeast Monsoon. According to NGO’s report and previous studies, the lockups condition is very poor and hot which contribute to discomfort among detainees. The objectives of the study are to investigate thermal comfort performance of the lockups based on four environmental parameters (Ta, Tr, Va, & RH) through physical measurement, to predict thermal comfort performance based on operative temperature (To) and neutral operative temperature (Tneutop), and to compare the results with thermal comfort criteria recommended by ASHRAE 55 standard and previous thermal comfort studies in hot and humid climate. The results show that To and Tneutop reading of LK1 is exceeding the maximum range recommended by ASHRAE 55 and previous studies by 2% to 8% (To) and 1% (Tneutop) which categorizing LK1 condition as hot. This is mostly due to high hot airflow brought through an ineffective window opening. The results will be used as reference for improvement towards some aspects such as window opening, building finishes materials, space volume and building orientation in future lockup design.
