This paper inventories some of the essential traits of the software preferred by researchers, students and professors, such as R or RStudio, or Matlab and also their possible utilizations. In order to fill the gap in the Romanian literature and help finance students in choosing proper tools according to the research purpose, this comparative study aims at bringing a fresh, useful perspective in the relevant literature. In Romania, the use of R was the focus of several international conferences on official statistics held in Bucharest, and others having business excellence, innovation and sustainability as purpose. In this time, at global scale, R and Python programming languages are considered the lingua franca of data science, as common statistical software used both in corporations and academia. In this paper, I analyze basic features of such software, with the purpose of application in finance.

This chapter examines developments in digital campaigning in comparative perspective. It does so using survey data from Wave 4 of the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES) to measure the extent of digital voter contact occurring in eighteen countries (2011–2015). Based on the understanding that extensive voter mobilization is a key feature of a country’s entry into phase IV digital campaigning, the authors infer which nations have progressed more rapidly through the four phases, and are thus most advanced in their use of digital campaign tools. Using this measure, they find that the United States is the most advanced nation and Thailand the least. They investigate the rankings more systematically using multilevel modeling techniques, and find that presidential elections and higher internet penetration rates are most predictive of higher rates of digital campaign contact. The results are helpful in building expectations about the digital campaign performance of the four national case studies.

Dan Kwian, Sukhothai and Ratchaburi pottery clays are economically important pottery clays. They are well known in the Thai ceramic society for making Dan Kwian pottery, Sawankhalok pottery and Dragon jars, respectively. There have been several studies of these pottery clays. However, few of them used statistics to analyze their results. This work is a comparative study of the compositions and properties of these three pottery clays using statistical software to analyze the results. Results show that the major components of these pottery clays are SiO2 and Al2O3. The Modulus of Rupture (MOR) of each pottery clay fired at 700°C are not significantly different. Sukhothai pottery clay fired at 900°C has a higher MOR and bulk density while its porosity, water absorption and apparent specific gravity are less than those of the Dan Kwian and Ratchaburi pottery clays fired at the same temperature. Additionally, the current study developed regression equations for estimating the properties of all pottery clays under study. Finally, it was found that the L*, a*, b* and reflectance spectra of all pottery clays increased when firing temperature was increased from 700 to 900°C.

Morphometric data usually have a hierarchical structure (i.e., cells are nested within patients), which should be taken into consideration in the analysis. In the recent years, special methods of handling hierarchical data, called multilevel models (MM), as well as corresponding software have received considerable development. However, there has been no application of these methods to morphometric data yet. In this paper we report our first experience of analyzing karyometric data by means of MLwiN – a dedicated program for multilevel modeling. Our data were obtained from 34 follicular adenomas and 44 follicular carcinomas of the thyroid. We show examples of fitting and interpreting MM of different complexity, and draw a number of interesting conclusions about the differences in nuclear morphology between follicular thyroid adenomas and carcinomas. We also demonstrate substantial advantages of multilevel models over conventional, single‐level statistics, which have been adopted previously to analyze karyometric data. In addition, some theoretical issues related to MM as well as major statistical software for MM are briefly reviewed.

In the past, a large number of research efforts concentrated on single-level analysis; however, researchers who only conduct this level of analysis are finding it harder to justify due to the advancements in statistical software and research techniques. The validation of research findings comes partially from others replicating existing studies as well as building onto theories. Through replication and validation, the research process becomes cyclical in nature, and each iteration builds upon the next. Each succession of tests sets new boundaries, further verification, or falsification. For a model to be correctly specified, the level of analysis needs to be in congruence with the level of measurement. This chapter provides an overview of multilevel modeling for researchers and provides guides for the development and investigation of these models.

Given the natural hierarchical structure in school-setting data, multilevel modeling (MLM) has been widely employed in education research using a number of different statistical software packages. The purpose of this article is to review a recent feature of Stat-JR, the statistical analysis assistants (SAAs) embedded in Stat-JR (Version 1.0.5), with regard to their use for MLM. In this article, we review the features of Stat-JR’s SAAs and illustrate how to implement SAAs, using one of the Stat-JR interfaces to analyze multilevel models for the 1982 High School and Beyond data set. Results from Stat-JR SAA are compared with the results using HLM7.01 software. We also discuss recommendations and implications for future users of SAAs.

Fishbiological research was held on 10 small watercourses, especially on the streams of woldy region of the southern foot of the Bükk-mountains and on the creeks of the lowland Borsodi-Mezőség in 2004. 7475 specimens of 34 species were caught as the result of our surveys on 28 sampling sites. Significant differences were found between fish stocks living in wold and lowland situated sampling sites.Nevertheless on the border of the hilly and lowland regions continous transition observed in the composition of fishstocks. Using Ind Val 2.0 statistical software indicator species appointed of the stocks of wold situated samling sites in “natural” and in “disturbed” states, and of the lowland situated sampling sites.
