Abstract Numerical values of lattice star entropic exponents $\gamma_f$, and star vertex exponents $\sigma_f$, are estimated using parallel implementations of the PERM and Wang-Landau algorithms. Our results show that the numerical estimates of the vertex exponents deviate from predictions of the $\eps$-expansion and confirms and improves on estimates in the literature. We also estimate the entropic exponents $\gamma_\mathcal{G}$ of a few acyclic branched lattice networks with comb and brush connectivities. In particular, we confirm within numerical accuracy the scaling relation $$ \gamma_{\mathcal{G}}-1 = \sum_{f\geq 1} m_f \, \sigma_f $$ for a comb and two brushes (where $m_f$ is the number of nodes of degree $f$ in the network) using our independent estimates of $\sigma_f$.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to investigate dense linear algebra algorithms on shared memory multicore architectures. The design and implementation of a parallel tiled WZ factorization algorithm which can fully exploit such architectures are presented. Three parallel implementations of the algorithm are studied. The first one relies only on exploiting multithreaded BLAS (basic linear algebra subprograms) operations. The second implementation, except for BLAS operations, employs the OpenMP standard to use the loop-level parallelism. The third implementation, except for BLAS operations, employs the OpenMP task directive with the depend clause. We report the computational performance and the speedup of the parallel tiled WZ factorization algorithm on shared memory multicore architectures for dense square diagonally dominant matrices. Then we compare our parallel implementations with the respective LU factorization from a vendor implemented LAPACK library. We also analyze the numerical accuracy. Two of our implementations can be achieved with near maximal theoretical speedup implied by Amdahl’s law.

AbstractThe stationary state of resonant absorption of linear, MHD waves in cylindrical magnetic flux tubes is studied in viscous, compressible MHD with a numerical code using finite element discretization. The full viscosity tensor with the five viscosity coefficients as given by Braginskii is included in the analysis. Our computations reproduce the absorption rates obtained by Lou in scalar viscous MHD and Goossens and Poedts in resistive MHD, which guarantee the numerical accuracy of the tensorial viscous MHD code.

In this paper, the conventional database type fast forward solver for efficient simulation of eddy current testing (ECT) signals is upgraded by using an advanced multi-media finite element (MME) at the crack edge for treating inversion of complex shaped crack. Because the analysis domain is limited at the crack region, the fast forward solver can significantly improve the numerical accuracy and efficiency once the coefficient matrices of the MME can be properly calculated. Instead of the Gauss point classification, a new scheme to calculate the coefficient matrix of the MME is proposed and implemented to upgrade the ECT fast forward solver. To verify its efficiency and the feasibility for reconstruction of complex shaped crack, several cracks were reconstructed through inverse analysis using the new MME scheme. The numerical results proved that the upgraded fast forward solver can give better accuracy for simulating ECT signals, and consequently gives better crack profile reconstruction.

Abstract Background Citric acid (CA) is a universal plant and animal-metabolism intermediate. It is a commodity chemical processed and widely used around the world as an excellent pharmaceutical excipient. Notably, CA is offering assorted significant properties viz. biodegradability, biocompatibility, hydrophilicity, safety, etc. Therefore, CA is broadly employed in many sectors including foodstuffs, beverages, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cosmetics as a flavoring agent, sequestering agent, buffering agent, etc. From the beginning, CA is a regular ingredient for cosmetic pH-adjustment and as a metallic ion chelator in antioxidant systems. In addition, it is used to improve the taste of pharmaceuticals such as syrups, solutions, elixirs, etc. Furthermore, free CA is also employed as an acidulant in mild astringent preparations. Main text In essence, it is estimated that the functionality present in CA provides excellent assets in pharmaceutical applications such as cross-linking, release-modifying capacity, interaction with molecules, capping and coating agent, branched polymer nanoconjugates, gas generating agent, etc. Mainly, the center of attention of the review is to deliver an impression of the CA-based pharmaceutical applications. Conclusion In conclusion, CA is reconnoitered for multiple novels pharmaceutical and biomedical/applications including as a green crosslinker, release modifier, monomer/branched polymer, capping and coating agent, novel disintegrant, absorption enhancer, etc. In the future, CA can be utilized as an excellent substitute for pharmaceutical and biomedical applications.
