This paper looks at the ability to cope with the uncertainty of wind power and reduce the impact of wind power forecast error (WPFE) on the operation and dispatch of power system. Therefore, several factors which are related to WPFE will be studied. By statistical analysis of the historical data, an indicator of real-time error based on these factors is obtained to estimate WPFE. Based on the real-time estimation of WPFE, a multi-time scale rolling dispatch model for wind/storage power system is established. In the real-time error compensation section of this model, the previous dispatch plan of thermal power unit is revised according to the estimation of WPFE. As the regulating capacity of thermal power unit within a short time period is limited, the estimation of WPFE is further compensated by using battery energy storage system. This can not only decrease the risk caused by the wind power uncertainty and lessen wind spillage, but also reduce the total cost. Thereby providing a new method to describe and model wind power uncertainty, and providing economic, safe and energy-saving dispatch plan for power system. The analysis in case study verifies the effectiveness of the proposed model.

The rise of Cloud Computing represents one of the most significant shifts in Information technology in the last 5 years and promises to revolutionise how we view the availability and consumption of computing storage and processing resources. However, it is well-known that along with the benefits of Cloud Computing, it also presents a number of security issues that have restricted its deployment to date. This chapter reviews the potential vulnerabilities of Cloud-based architectures and uses this as the foundation to define a set of requirements for reassessing risk management in Cloud Computing. To fulfill these requirements, the authors propose a new scheme for the real-time assessment and auditing of risk in cloud-based applications and explore this with the use case of a triage application.

Microwave ablation (MWA) status monitoring in real time plays a key role in assessment of therapeutic effectiveness. As a novel real-time assessment method, near infrared spectroscopy (NIRs) was used to evaluate the ablation efficacy. MWA experiments were carried out on in vitro porcine livers. An optical measurement system for biological tissue is developed by our lab to monitor reduced scattering coefficient [Formula: see text] at 690 nm of the coagulation zones. It is noted that [Formula: see text] of liver tissue, which increases as the liver tissue being ablated, is clearly related with the coagulation status. [Formula: see text] of normal tissue and coagulated tissue is 3–5 and 17–19 cm-1, respectively. Continuous changes of [Formula: see text] demonstrate that optical parameter can be used as an efficacy evaluation factor because it essentially indicates the degree of thermal damage. Compared with temperature, optical parameter is more sensitive and accurate, which is promising for real-time therapeutic efficacy assessment in MWA.
