Abstract The correlation between structure and properties of elastomers prepared from dienes, natural rubber, gutta-percha, as well as those of some significant derivatives of natural rubber, are discussed. The similar influence exerted by methyl groups on the brittle point, elastic recovery, and permeability to gases is demonstrated and separated from the effect caused by insertion of —CH2— CHR— groups in straight-chain polybutadiene, which takes place during co-polymerization or 1,2 addition. The preponderant influence of an unbranched-chain structure on tensile strength at elevated temperatures and in the swollen state is illustrated. Complex compounds with silver nitrate provide further evidence for the particular symmetry of the natural rubber chain: They are reinforcing agents for synthetic elastomers. The brittle points of hydrochlorides from natural rubber, gutta-percha, and polyisoprene are compared with those of polyvinyl compounds. Correlation between the structure of molecular units in a polymeric paraffin derivative and its elasticity is pointed out.

The synthesis of complex compounds of 4 - [(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl) amino] benzoic acid (HL) with ions of samarium (III), europium (III), terbium (III), gadolinium (III) and dysprosium (III). According to the data of elemental analysis and thermogravimetry, the obtained complexes are hydrates of the composition LnL3 · nH2O, where n = 0-2. The area of their thermal stability is in the range from 100 ° С to 150 ° С. Electronic and infrared absorption spectra of the ligand and complexes with rare-earth metal ions have been measured. According to the IR spectra, the coordination of the ligand with the metal ion occurs at the carboxyl group. The carboxyl group is bidentate coordinated. To excite luminescence, a line of a mercury lamp with a wavelength of 248 nm was used. The highest luminescence intensity is observed for the coordination compounds Eu3 +, Tb3 +, Sm3 +, and Dy3 +.

A new diamond-anvil cell apparatus for in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction measurements of liquids and glasses, at pressures from ambient to 5 GPa and temperatures from ambient to 1300 K, is reported. This portable setup enables in situ monitoring of the melting of complex compounds and the determination of the structure and properties of melts under moderately high pressure and high temperature conditions relevant to industrial processes and magmatic processes in the Earth's crust and shallow mantle. The device was constructed according to a modified Bassett-type hydrothermal diamond-anvil cell design with a large angular opening (θ = 95°). This paper reports the successful application of this device to record in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction of liquid Ga and synthetic PbSiO3 glass to 1100 K and 3 GPa.

In this work, coordination compounds of Co (II) with derivatives of dihydro-4H-3,1-benzoxazines were synthesized by a chemical method and their composition, structure, and physicochemical properties were studied. ... According to the data of elemental analysis and analysis for metal, the obtained complex compounds have the composition ML2, where M is metal, L are ligands: 2- [2-hydroxyphenyl] -4,4-diphenyl-1,2-dihydro-4H-3,1benzoxazine (L1), 2- [2-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl] -4,4-diphenyl-1 , 2-dihydro-4H-3,1-benzoxazine (L2), 2- [2hydroxynaphthyl] -4,4-diphenyl-1,2-dihydro-4H-3,1-benzoxazine (L3), 2- [ 2-hydroxynaphthyl] -4,4-diethyl-1,2dihydro-4H-3,1-benzoxazine (L4). The structure and properties of the obtained complex compounds were studied by IR spectroscopy. According to IR spectroscopy data, it was found that in all complex compounds, the ligand participates in the open azomethine form; coordination with the metal atom involves two oxygen atoms and a nitrogen atom of the azomethine fragment of the ligand. It was found that the ligand in the complex performs a tridentate chelate-bridging function. The structure of complex compounds of cobalt with derivatives of benzoxazines is proposed.

Addition of interstitial elements to γ-TiAl alloys is currently being explored as a method for improving the properties of these alloys. Previous work in which a number of interstitial elements were studied showed that boron was particularly effective in refining the grain size in castings, and led to enhanced strength while maintaining reasonable ductility. Other investigators have shown that B in γ-TiAl alloys tends to promote the formation of TiB2 as a second phase. In this study, the microstructure of Bcontaining TiAl alloys was examined in detail in order to describe the mechanism by which B alters the structure and properties of these alloys.
