A design technique is described for an arbitrarily shaped planar microstrip antenna array with improved radiation efficiency. In order to fully utilize the limited antenna aperture, several basic modules are proposed from which we construct the array. A consideration of the aperture shape shows that with several practical examples a proper combination of these basic modules not only allows the convenient design of arbitrarily-shaped microstrip array, but also helps to improve the aperture radiation efficiency. To confirm the feasibility of the approach, a circular array with 256 elements was constructed and fabricated. Both computed and measured aperture radiation results are compared and these demonstrate that the design technique is effective for arbitrarily-shaped planar microstrip arrays.

Abstract Nowadays, wireless communication system plays great roles in our dailyactivities and different improvements are requiring because the number of users increase from time to time. At the same time, users need high throughput and link reliability. The forthcoming generation of wireless communication will have to deal with some core requirements for serving large number of users simultaneously, upholdinghigh throughput for each user, assuring less energy consumption, etc. Inter-user interference has a major impact when a wireless communication link has a large number of users. To maintain a particular desired quality of service, sophisticated transmission mechanisms such as interference cancellation need be implemented. As a result, MU-massive MIMO with extremely huge antenna arrays is recommended. The term ”MU-massive MIMO” refers to a system with hundreds or thousands of antennas servicing tens of thousands of customers.Inter-user interference was greatly decreased once the channel vectors were closely orthogonal. As a result, high data rates can be supplied to multiple users at the same time. In this work, researcher investigated performance evaluation of a MU-massive MIMO utilizing different precoding schemes (like, MMSE, ZF, MRT) over nakagami-m fading channel with CSI at base station and users’ terminal. In addition, the researcher analyzed the outcome of pilot reuse factors and shaping (m) parameter.

Estimating the direction of arrival (DOA) of source signals is an important research interest in application areas including radar, sonar, and wireless communications. In this paper, the problem of DOA estimation is addressed on concentric circular antenna arrays (CCA) in detail as an alternative to the well-known geometries of the uniform linear array (ULA) and uniform circular array (UCA). We define the steering matrix of the CCA geometry and investigate the performance analysis of the array in the DOA-estimation problem by simulations that are realized through varying the parameters of signal-to-noise ratio, number of sensors, and resolution angle of sensor arrays by using the MUSIC (Multiple Signal Classification) algorithm. The results present that CCA geometries provide higher angle resolutions compared to UCA geometries and require less physical area for the same number of sensor elements. However, as a cost-increasing effect, higher computational power is needed to estimate the DOA of source signals in CCAs compared to ULAs.

This study presents a novel optimization algorithm based on invasive weed optimization (IWO) for reduction of the maximum side lobe level (SLL) with specific half power beam width (HPBW) of thinned large multiple concentric circular arrays of uniformly excited isotropic elements. IWO is a powerful optimization technique for many continuous problems. But, for discrete problems, it does not work well. In this paper, the authors propose an improved binary IWO (IBIWO) for pattern synthesis of thinned circular array. The thinning percentage of the array is kept equal to or more than 50% and the HPBW is attempted to be equal to or less than that of a fully populated, uniformly excited, and half wavelength spaced concentric circular array of the same number of elements and rings. Simulation results are compared with previous published results of DE, MPSO, and BBO to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method for concentric circular arrays.
