A Gram-staining-negative bacterium, strain TS-T86T, was isolated from Lake Tuosu, a saline lake (salinity 5.4 %, w/w) in Qaidam basin, China. Its taxonomic position was determined by using a polyphasic approach. Strain TS-T86T was strictly heterotrophic, aerobic and catalase- and oxidase-positive. Cells were non-spore-forming, non-motile rods, 0.4–0.6 µm wide and 1.2–2.3 µm long. Growth was observed in the presence of 0–9.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 2.0 %), at 4–35 °C (optimum, 25 °C) and at pH 7.0–10.5 (optimum, pH 8.5–9.0). Strain TS-T86T contained MK-7 as the predominant respiratory quinone. The major fatty acids (>10 %) were iso-C15 : 1 G, iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 1ω9c, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c). The polar lipids consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine, an unknown phospholipid, six unidentified aminolipids and two uncharacterized lipids. The DNA G+C content was 35 mol% (T m). Phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain TS-T86T was associated with the genus Belliella , and showed the highest sequence similarity to Belliella baltica BA134T (98.5 %) and then to Belliella kenyensis No.164T (95.7 %) and Belliella pelovolcani CC-SAL-25T (95.3 %). DNA–DNA relatedness of strain TS-T86T to Belliella baltica DSM 15883T was 32±3 %. It is concluded that strain TS-T86T represents a novel species of the genus Belliella , for which the name Belliella aquatica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TS-T86T ( = CGMCC 1.12479T = JCM 19468T).

A Gram-stain-negative bacterium, strain TS-T11T, was isolated from Tuosu lake, a saline lake (salinity 5.4 %, w/v) in the Qaidam basin, Qinghai province, China. Cells of strain TS-T11T were non-spore-forming rods, 0.6–0.8 µm wide and 0.8–2.2 µm long, and motile by means of a single polar flagellum. Strain TS-T11T was strictly heterotrophic and aerobic. Cells were positive for catalase and oxidase. Growth was observed in the presence of 0.5–11.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 4.0–6.0 %), at 4–40 °C (optimum 30–35 °C) and at pH 6.0–10.5 (optimum pH 7.5–8.5). Strain TS-T11T contained iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 and iso-C17 : 1ω9c as the predominant fatty acids (>10 %). The major respiratory quinone was Q-8. The polar lipids consisted of a mixture of phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and nine uncharacterized phospholipids. The G+C content of genomic DNA was 46.8 mol% (T m). Phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain TS-T11T was associated with the genus Idiomarina , and showed highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Idiomarina aestuarii KYW314T (97.4 %) and Idiomarina salinarum ISL-52T (97.4 %). DNA–DNA relatedness of strain TS-T11T to I. aestuarii JCM 16344T and I. salinarum DSM 21900T was 22.2±2.4 and 11.5±1.6 %, respectively. Based on the data presented above, it was concluded that strain TS-T11T represents a novel species of the genus Idiomarina , for which the name Idiomarina planktonica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TS-T11T ( = CGMCC 1.12458T = JCM 19263T).

Strain TS-T4T contained Q-8 as the sole respiratory quinone and phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol as the major polar lipids, as for other members of the genus Rheinheimera . The predominant fatty acids (>10 %) were summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c), C16 : 0, C17 : 1ω8c and C18 : 1ω7c. The DNA G+C content was 50.2 mol% (T m). Phylogenetic trees based on sequences of the 16S rRNA gene and a conserved portion of the gyrase B gene (gyrB) showed that strain TS-T4T was associated with the genus Rheinheimera ; the strain showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Rheinheimera longhuensis LH2-2T (97.1 %) and then to Rheinheimera pacifica KMM 1406T (97.0 %). DNA–DNA relatedness of strain TS-T4T with R. longhuensis LH2-2T and R. pacifica NBRC 103167 was 53±2.5 and 48±2 %, respectively. Based on the data presented, it is concluded that TS-T4T represents a novel species of the genus Rheinheimera , for which the name Rheinheimera tuosuensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TS-T4T ( = CGMCC 1.12461T = JCM 19264T).

A Gram-staining-negative, strictly heterotrophic and aerobic bacterium, strain TS-T44T, was isolated from a saline lake, Tuosu Lake in Qaidam basin, Qinghai province, China. Its taxonomic position was investigated using a polyphasic approach. Cells of strain TS-T44T were non-endospore-forming, non-motile rods, 0.8–1.2 μm wide and 1.2–3.0 μm long. Catalase- and oxidase-positive. Growth occurred in the presence of up to 8  % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 3.0  %) and at 15–35 °C (optimum, 25 °C) and pH 7.0–10.0 (optimum, pH 7.5–8.5). C18 : 1ω7c was the predominant fatty acid. The major respiratory quinone was Q-10. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, an unidentified aminolipid and an unknown lipid. The DNA G+C content was 65.5 mol% [determined from the melting temperature (Tm)]. Phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain TS-T44T was associated with the genus Marivita and showed highest sequence similarity to Marivita cryptomonadis CL-SK44T (97.7  %), Marivita litorea CL-JM1T (97.5  %) and Marivita geojedonensis DPG-138T (97.3  %), and < 97  % to other species. DNA–DNA relatedness of strain TS-T44T to M. cryptomonadis JCM 15447T, M. litorea JCM 15446T and M. geojedonensis KCTC 23882T was 23 ± 3  %, 33 ± 4  % and 35 ± 2  %, respectively. Based on the data presented, it is concluded that strain TS-T44T represents a novel species of the genus Marivita, for which the name Marivita lacus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TS-T44T ( = CGMCC 1.12478T = JCM 19516T).

A Gram-staining-negative, rod-shaped, gliding and pale-pink-pigmented bacterium, designated strain ZLM-10T, was isolated from a soil sample collected from an arid area in Xinjiang province, China, and characterized in a taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach. The novel strain grew optimally at 30–37 °C and in the presence of 2 % (w/v) sea salts. The only respiratory quinone detected was MK-7 and the major cellular fatty acids were summed feature 3 (iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and/or C16 : 1ω7c), iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, an unidentified aminolipid and two unidentified aminophospholipids. The DNA G+C content was 45.4 mol%. Flexirubin-type pigments were not produced. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain ZLM-10T was a member of the phylum Bacteroidetes and appeared most closely related to Cesiribacter roseus 311T (90.2 % sequence similarity), Marivirga sericea LMG 13021T (89.2 %), Cesiribacter andamanensis AMV16T (89.1 %) and Marivirga tractuosa DSM 4126T (89.1 %). On the basis of phenotypic and genotypic data and phylogenetic inference, strain ZLM-10T should be classified as a novel species of a new genus in the family Flammeovirgaceae , for which the name Nafulsella turpanensis gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the type species is ZLM-10T ( = CCTCC AB 208222T = KCTC 23983T).

A Gram-staining-negative bacterium, strain DSG-S4-2T, was isolated from Dasugan Lake, a saline lake (salinity 3.1 %, w/v) in Qaidam basin, Qinghai, China and its taxonomic position was determined by using a polyphasic approach. Cells of strain DSG-S4-2T were non-spore-forming rods, 0.5–0.8 µm wide and 1.2–3.8 µm long and motile by means of a single polar flagellum. Strain DSG-S4-2T was strictly heterotrophic and aerobic, catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. PufLM and coxL genes were present, bacteriochlorophyll a (BChl a) and a carotenoid pigment were produced. Growth was observed in the presence of 0–8.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 1.0–2.0 %), at 20–40 °C (optimum, 35 °C) and pH 6.5–10.5 (optimum, pH 7.5–8.0). Strain DSG-S4-2T contained Q-10 as the sole respiratory quinone. The polar lipids contained two aminolipids, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine, sulphoquinovosyldiacylglyceride, phosphatidylcholine and some unknown phospholipids, like the other members of the genus Roseibium . The predominant fatty acid (>70 %) was summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c). The DNA G+C content was 61.4 mol% (determined from melting temperature). Phylogenetic trees (neighbour-joining, maximum-likelihood and maximum-parsimony) based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain DSG-S4-2T was associated with the members of the genus Roseibium , with highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Roseibium denhamense OCh 254T (96.3 %) and Roseibium hamelinense OCh 368T (96.3 %). Based on the data presented above, it is concluded that strain DSG-S4-2T represents a novel species of the genus Roseibium , for which the name Roseibium aquae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is DSG-S4-2T ( = CGMCC 1.12426T = JCM 19310T).

A Gram-staining-negative, aerobic and rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated HMC4223T, was isolated from a tidal flat in Taean, Republic of Korea. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HMC4223T formed a lineage within the genus Algoriphagus and exhibited highest sequence similarity to Algoriphagus hitonicola 7-UAHT (96.3 %). The major fatty acids of strain HMC4223T were iso-C15 : 0 and summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω6c and/or C16 : 1ω7c). The major respiratory quinone was MK-7. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and five unidentified polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain HMC4223T was 48.4 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HMC4223T represents a novel species of the genus Algoriphagus , for which the name Algoriphagus taeanensis sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain HMC4223T ( = KCTC 22709T = NBRC 105728T). An emended description of Algoriphagus hitonicola is also presented.

A Gram-staining-negative, non-endospore-forming, non-flagellated, non-motile and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain LM2-5T, was isolated from activated sludge in a sequencing batch reactor used for the treatment of triphenylmethane dye effluent. The taxonomy of strain LM2-5T was studied by phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic methods. Strain LM2-5T was aerobic, heterotrophic and positive for oxidase but negative for catalase activity. It grew at 16–37 °C (optimum 25 °C) and at pH 5.0–8.5 (optimum between pH 6.5 and pH 7.0). NaCl was not obligatory for growth but was tolerated at concentrations up to 2.0 % (w/v) NaCl. The novel strain formed yellow colonies on trypticase soy agar. Cells of strain LM2-5T were rods that measured 0.3–0.5 µm in width and 3.0–5.0 µm in length. The predominant respiratory quinone was Q-8. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 1ω9c. The genomic DNA G+C content was 66.7 mol%. In phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, strain LM2-5T clustered with members of the genus Dokdonella and appeared most closely related to Dokdonella koreensis DS-123T (96.4 % sequence similarity), Dokdonella fugitiva A3T (96.1 %), Dokdonella soli KIS28-6T (95.7 %) and Dokdonella ginsengisoli Gsoil 191T (95.7 %). On the basis of the phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic data, strain LM2-5T was considered to represent a novel species of the genus Dokdonella , for which the name Dokdonella immobilis is proposed. The type strain is LM2-5T ( = CGMCC 1.7659T  = JCM 15763T).

A Gram-staining-negative, chemoheterotrophic, yellow-pigmented, non-motile, flexirubin-negative, facultatively anaerobic bacterium, designated strain IMCC3317T, was isolated from a coastal seawater sample from the Antarctic Penninsula. Optimal growth of strain IMCC3317T was observed at 20 °C, pH 8.0 and in the presence of 2–3 % NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain IMCC3317T belonged to the genus Kordia and was closely related to Kordia algicida OT-1T (96.7 % sequence similarity) and Kordia periserrulae IMCC1412T (96.1 % sequence similarity). The major fatty acids were 10-methyl C16 : 0 and/or iso-C16 : 1ω9c, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH, iso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C15 : 0. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 35.1 mol%. The strain contained menaquinone-6 (MK-6) as the respiratory quinone. The polar lipids detected in the strain were phosphatidylethanolamine and unknown aminophospholipids, aminolipids and polar lipids. On the basis of phylogenetic distinction and differential phenotypic characteristics, it is suggested that strain IMCC3317T ( = KCTC 32292T = NBRC 109401T) be assigned to the genus Kordia as the type strain of a novel species, for which the name Kordia antarctica sp. nov. is proposed.

A Gram-staining-negative, yellow-pigmented, non-motile, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain CNU001T, was isolated from seawater collected on the coast of Jeju Island, South Korea, and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study. The temperature, pH and NaCl ranges for growth were 10–30 °C, pH 6.0–10.0 and 2.0–5.0 %, respectively. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain CNU001T belonged to the genus Erythrobacter in the family Erythrobacteraceae , with Erythrobacter longus DSM 6997T (96.6 % sequence similarity), Erythrobacter gaetbuli SW-161T (96.3 %), Erythrobacter vulgaris 022 2-10T (96.2 %), Erythrobacter nanhaisediminis T30T (96.1 %) and other members of the genus Erythrobacter (<96.0 %) identified as the novel strain’s closest relatives. The major cellular fatty acids were C18 : 1ω7c and C17 : 1ω6c. The polar lipids were found to be diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylglycerol, one sphingoglycolipid, one unidentified aminolipid and six other unidentified lipids. The major respiratory quinone was ubiquinone-10 (UQ-10) and the genomic DNA G+C content of the novel strain was 58.9 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic, phylogenetic and genotypic data, strain CNU001T represents a novel species within the genus Erythrobacter , for which the name Erythrobacter jejuensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CNU001T ( = KCTC 23090T  = JCM 16677T).

A taxonomic study was carried out on five Gram-staining-negative, catalase- and oxidase-positive, rod-shaped bacteria isolated from the gills and livers of five diseased rainbow trout. The five novel isolates were designated strains 687B-08T, 445-08, 452-08, 453B-08 and 967B-08. In phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, the five novel strains appeared almost identical (99.0–100 % sequence similarity) and to belong to the genus Chryseobacterium . Strain 687B-08T (the strain selected to represent the five novel isolates) was found to be most closely related to Chryseobacterium oncorhynchi 701B-08T (98.9 % sequence similarity), Chryseobacterium ureilyticum F-Fue-04IIIaaaaT (98.6 %), Chryseobacterium indologenes ATCC 29897T (98.3 %), Chryseobacterium jejuense JS17-8T (98.1 %) and Chryseobacterium gleum ATCC 35910T (98.1 %). In DNA–DNA hybridizations, DNA–DNA relatedness values of 99–100 % were recorded between the five novel strains. Lower DNA–DNA relatedness values (21–57 %) were recorded between strain 687B-08T and C. oncorhynchi 701B-08T, C. ureilyticum F-Fue-04IIIaaaaT and the type strains of other closely related, established species of the genus Chryseobacterium . The predominant respiratory quinone of strain 687B-08T was MK-6 and the major cellular fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 1ω9c, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and C16 : 1ω6c. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain 687B-08T was 38.6 mol%. Based on the phenotypic and genotypic evidence, the five novel strains isolated from rainbow trout represent a single, novel species of the genus Chryseobacterium , for which the name Chryseobacterium viscerum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 687B-08T ( = CECT 7793T  = CCUG 60103T).
