A Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated F3T, was isolated from a saline soil sample in China and studied by using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain F3T was affiliated with the genus Brevundimonas , with Brevundimonas kwangchunensis KSL-102T (98.4 % similarity) and Brevundimonas alba DSM 4736T (98.2 %) as its closest relatives. Strain F3T contained ubiquinone-10 (Q-10) as the predominant ubiquinone and C18 : 1ω7c, C17 : 1ω8c and C16 : 0 as the major fatty acids. The DNA G+C content of strain F3T was 66.7 mol%. Levels of DNA–DNA relatedness between strain F3T and the type strains of closely related Brevundimonas species were below 22 %. On the basis of phenotypic characteristics and genotypic distinctiveness, strain F3T should be classified as representing a novel species of the genus Brevundimonas , for which the name Brevundimonas viscosa sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is F3T ( = CGMCC 1.10683T = JCM 17426T).

Parvularcula flava was proposed as a novel member of genus Parvularcula in 2016. Some time earlier, Aquisalinus flavus has been proposed as a novel species of a novel genus named Aquisalinus . When comparing the 16S rRNA gene sequences of type strains P. flava NH6-79T and A. flavus D11M-2T, they showed 97.9 % sequence identity, much higher than the sequence identities 92.7–94.3 % between P. flava NH6-79T and type strains in the genus Parvularcula , indicating that the later proposed novel taxon Parvularcula flava need reclassification. The phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and genome sequences both showed that P. flava NH6-79T and A. flavus D11M-2T formed a separated branch away from strains in the genera Parvularcula , Marinicaulis and Amphiplicatus . The average amino acid identity and average nucleotide identity values of P. flava NH6-79T and A. flavus D11M-2T were 87.9 and 85.0 %, respectively, much higher than the values between P. flava NH6-79T and other closely related type strains (54.3 %–58.1 % and 68.6–70.4 %, respectively). P. flava NH6-79T and A. flavus D11M-2T also contained summed feature 8 (C18 : 1  ω6c and/or C18 : 1  ω7c) and C16 : 0 as major fatty acids, distinguishing them from other closely related taxa. Based on the results of the phylogenetic, comparative genomic and phenotypic analyses, Parvularcula flava should be reclassified as Aquisalinus luteolus nom. nov. and the description of genus Aquisalinus is emended.

A yellow-coloured bacterial strain, designated HB2T, isolated from stratum water was investigated using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-spore-forming, non-flagellated and rod-shaped. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the strain was a member of the genus Luteimonas , its three closest neighbours being Luteimonas aquatica BCRC 17731T (97.5 % similarity), Luteimonas marina JCM 12488T (97.3 %) and Luteimonas aestuarii DSM 19680T (96.9 %). Strain HB2T could clearly be distinguished from these type strains based on phylogenetic analysis, DNA–DNA hybridization, fatty acid composition and a range of physiological and biochemical characteristics. It is evident from the genotypic and phenotypic data that strain HB2T represents a novel species of the genus Luteimonas , for which the name Luteimonas huabeiensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HB2T ( = DSM 26429T = CICC 11005sT).

A non-motile and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain 02SUJ3T, was isolated from freshwater collected from the Juam Reservoir (Republic of Korea). Cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, oxidase-negative and catalase-positive. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 1 G and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The strain contained MK-7 as the major isoprenoid quinone. The main polar lipid was phosphatidylethanolamine. The DNA G+C content was 46.4 mol%. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain 02SUJ3T forms an independent lineage within the genus Flavisolibacter with low sequence similarity to Flavisolibacter ginsengiterrae Gsoil 492T and Flavisolibacter ginsengisoli Gsoil 643T (95.7 %). Phenotypic characteristics distinguished strain 02SUJ3T from members of the genus Flavisolibacter . On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain 02SUJ3T is considered to represent a novel species, for which the name Flavisolibacter rigui sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 02SUJ3T ( = JCM 17515T = KCTC 23328T). An emended description of the genus Flavisolibacter is also provided.

A novel endophytic actinobacterium, designated strain YIM 68236T, was isolated from healthy leaves of Camptotheca acuminata. and characterized by using a polyphasic approach. Cells of this strain occurred singly, in pairs or in tetrads. It grew at 10–45 °C, at pH 5.0–8.0 (optimum pH 7.0) and in the presence of 0–3 % (w/v) NaCl. The DNA G+C content was 71.6 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain YIM 68236T belongs to the genus Blastococcus . However, it differed from its closest relatives, Blastococcus aggregatus DSM 4725T, Blastococcus saxobsidens DSM 44509T and Blastococcus jejuensis DSM 19597T in many phenotypic characteristics. Moreover, the DNA–DNA relatedness values between the novel isolate and the three above-mentioned type strains were 49.0±1.6 %, 46.1±3.2 % and 39.8±1.5 %, respectively. Based on comparative analysis of physiological and chemotaxonomic data, strain YIM 68236T represents a novel species of the genus Blastococcus , for which the name Blastococcus endophyticus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YIM 68236T ( = CCTCC AA 209045T = DSM 45413T = KCTC 19998T).

A Gram-staining-positive, aerobic, non-motile bacterium, designated strain SJ5-8T, was isolated from seau-jeot (shrimp jeotgal), a traditional fermented seafood in South Korea. Cells were non-spore-forming rods showing catalase- and oxidase-positive reactions. Growth of strain SJ5-8T was observed at 10–37 °C (optimum, 30 °C), at pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum, pH 7.5–8.5) and in the presence of 0–14 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 5 %). Phylogenetic inference based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the strain formed a tight phyletic lineage with members of the genus Brevibacterium . Strain SJ5-8T was most closely related to Brevibacterium yomogidense MN-6-aT, Brevibacterium daeguense 2C6-41T and Brevibacterium salitolerans TRM 415T with similarities of 98.9, 97.5 and 97.4 %, respectively. The DNA–DNA relatedness values between strain SJ5-8T and the type strains of B. yomogidense , B. daeguense and B. salitolerans were 51.7±1.9 %, 22.2±4.0 % and 52.4±3.8 %, respectively. Chemotaxonomic data (major sole isoprenoid quinone, MK-8(H2); major diagnostic diamino acid, meso-diaminopimelic acid; major polyamines, putrescine and cadaverine; major cellular fatty acids, anteiso-C15:0, iso-C15:0 and anteiso-C17:0; major polar lipids, phosphatidylglycerol and diphosphatidylglycerol; DNA G+C content, 69.3 mol%) also supported the affiliation of strain SJ5-8T to the genus Brevibacterium . Therefore, strain SJ5-8T represents a novel species of the genus Brevibacterium , for which the name Brevibacterium jeotgali sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SJ5-8T ( = KACC 16911T = JCM 18571T).

A novel Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, non-motile actinobacterium, designated strain E2AT, was isolated from a coral sample and examined using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain E2AT formed a distinct phyletic lineage in the genus Saccharopolyspora and was closely related to S. cavernae CCTCC AA 2012022T (96.4 %) and S. lacisalsi CCTCC AA 2010012T (95.3 %). The isolate grew at 15–35 °C, pH 5–12 and in the presence of 1–16 % (w/v) NaCl. The cell-wall diamino acid was meso-DAP. Major fatty acids identified were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C16 : 0 and C17 : 1  ω8c. The predominant menaquinone was MK-9(H4). The polar lipids detected were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylmethylethanolamine, one unidentified glycolipid, one unidentified phospholipid and one unidentified aminolipid. The genomic DNA G+C content was 68.6 mol%. Based on the data from the polyphasic taxonomic study reported here, strain E2AT represents a novel species within the genus Saccharopolyspora , for which the name Saccharopolyspora coralli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is E2AT=(JCM 31844T=MCCC 1A17150T).

A novel bacterial strain, YC6899T, was isolated from the root of Suaedae maritima growing on a tidal flat of Namhae Island, Korea. Cells were Gram-reaction-negative, rod-shaped, non-motile, slightly halophilic and heterotrophic. Strain YC6899T grew optimally at a salinity of 2–4 %, at 25–37 °C and at pH 6.5–8.0. Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences demonstrated that strain YC6899T was closely related to Amorphus orientalis YIM D10T (96.1 % similarity) and Amorphus coralli RS.Sph.026T (95.9 %). The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, unknown aminolipids, an unknown aminophospholipid, an unknown aminoglycolipid, unknown glycolipids and unknown lipids. The major fatty acids of strain YC6899T were C19 : 0 cyclo ω8c and C18 : 1ω7c. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 61.3 mol%. Strain YC6899T contained ubiquinone-10 (Q-10) as the major respiratory quinone system. On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic data, strain YC6899T represents a novel species within the genus Amorphus , for which the name Amorphus suaedae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YC6899T ( = KACC 14912T = NBRC 107845T).

A novel type of mineral-weathering bacterium was isolated from the weathered surface of rock (mica schist) collected from Susong (Anhui, China). Cells of strain L226T were Gram-stain-negative. The strain grew optimally at 30 °C, with 1 % (w/v) NaCl and at pH 7.0 in trypticase soy broth. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene phylogeny, strain L226T was shown to belong to the genus Burkholderia and the closest phylogenetic relatives were Burkholderia sprentiae WSM5005T (98.3 %), Burkholderia acidipaludis NBRC 101816T (98.2 %), Burkholderia tuberum STM678T (97.2 %) and Burkholderia diazotrophica JPY461T (97.1 %). The DNA G+C content was 63.5 mol% and the respiratory quinone was Q-8. The major fatty acids were C16 : 0, C17 : 0 cyclo and C19 : 0 cyclo ω8c. The polar lipid profile of strain L226T consisted of a mixture of phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, unknown lipids and unidentified aminophospholipids. Based on the low level of DNA–DNA relatedness (ranging from 25.8 % to 34.4 %) to the tested type strains of species of the genus Burkholderia and unique phenotypic characteristics, it is suggested that strain L226T represents a novel species of the genus Burkholderia , for which the name Burkholderia susongensis sp. nov., is proposed. The type strain is L226T ( = CCTCC AB2014142T = JCM 30231T).

An aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain CC-LY845T, was isolated from the surface of rice straw in Taiwan. Cells were non-motile, and no flagellum was detected. Comparison of 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that the strain was phylogenetically related to species of the genus Rhizobium , with closest similarity to Rhizobium pseudoryzae KCTC 23294T (97.6 %), R. rhizoryzae KCTC 23652T (97.0 %) and R. oryzae LMG 24253T (96.7 %); other species showed lower levels of similarity (<96.6 %). The DNA–DNA relatedness of strain CC-LY845T and R. pseudoryzae KCTC 23294T was 34.8±3.1 % (reciprocal value 39.2±2.2 %). Phylogenetic analysis based on the housekeeping atpD and recA genes showed that the novel strain could be distinguished from R. pseudoryzae KCTC 23294T (92.7 and 91.5 %, respectively) and other species of the genus Rhizobium . The temperature range for growth was 25–42 °C, the pH range was 5.0–9.0 and NaCl concentrations up to 4.0 % (w/v) were tolerated. Strain CC-LY845T did not form nodules on four different legumes, and the nodD and nifH genes were not detected by PCR. The major fatty acids were C16 : 0 and summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c/C18 : 1ω6c). The polyamine pattern of strain CC-LY845T showed spermidine and putrescine as major polyamines. The predominant quinone system was ubiquinone 10 (Q-10). The DNA G+C content was 68.3±2.4 mol%. Base on its phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic features, strain CC-LY845T is proposed to represent a novel species within the genus Rhizobium , for which the name Rhizobium straminoryzae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is strain CC-LY845T ( = BCRC 80698T = JCM 19536T).

Three Gram-staining-negative, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming, non-motile, oxidase-positive, yellow pigmented and aerobic bacterial isolates designated 8_R23573, 9_R23581T and 10_R23577 were isolated from raw chicken at a broiler processing plant in Bloemfontein, South Africa. A polyphasic taxonomic approach was used to determine their exact taxonomic identities. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the three strains belonged to the genus Chryseobacterium , exhibiting the highest similarities to Chryseobacterium shigense DSM 17126T (98.6–99.2 %) and Chryseobacterium luteum DSM 18605T (98.3–98.7 %). The most abundant quinone was menaquinone MK-6 and the predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-15 : 0, iso-17 : 1ω9c, iso-17 : 0 3-OH and summed feature 3 (iso-16 : 1ω7c and/or iso-15 : 0 2-OH), which supported the affiliation of the strains to the genus Chryseobacterium . The DNA G+C contents of the strains were 36.9, 36.7 and 36.6 mol% respectively. The DNA–DNA hybridization results gave relatedness values ranging from 78.8 to 87.2 % among the three strains and 23.4 to 56.1 % to the two nearest phylogenetic neighbours C. shigense DSM 17126T and C. luteum LMG 23785T. On the basis of the data from this polyphasic study, the three strains are concluded to represent a novel species of the genus Chryseobacterium for which the name Chryseobacterium carnipullorum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 9_R23581T ( = LMG 26732T = DSM 25581T).
