ABSTRACTPrevious research on the relationship between children’s externalising and depressive symptoms, experience of school, and later academic attainment is inconclusive. The present study uses data from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (n=6,409) to investigate bidirectional associations between school experience (enjoyment and connectedness) and externalising and depressive symptoms at age 10-11 and 13-14. We also investigate the relationship between school experience and academic attainment at 16 and test whether school experience mediates associations of externalising and depressive symptoms with later attainment. A cross-lagged structural equation model was employed. Externalising and depressive symptoms at 10-11 were negatively associated with school connectedness at 13-14 (externalizing: standardised β=−0.13, CI: −0.17, −0.08; depressive: β=−0.06, CI: −0.11, 0.01), and with school enjoyment at 13-14 (externalising: β=−0.08, CI: −0.13, −0.03; depressive β=−0.04, −0.08, 0.03). School enjoyment at 13-14 was positively associated with attainment at 16 (β=0.10, CI: 0.04, 0.15), and partially mediated associations between externalising and depressive symptoms at 10-11 and attainment at 16 (externalising: proportion mediated; 4.7%, CI: 0.7, 10.1, depressive: proportion mediated 2.2%, I: −1.5, 5.9). School enjoyment is a potentially modifiable risk factor that may affect educational attainment of adolescents with depressive and externalising symptoms.

BackgroundA growing number of studies suggest a link between timing of menarche and risk of depressive symptoms in adolescence, but few have prospectively examined the emergence of depressive symptoms from late childhood into adolescence.AimsTo examine whether girls who experience earlier menarche than their peers have higher levels of depressive symptoms in adolescence.MethodThe study sample comprised 2184 girls from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children. The association between timing of menarche and depressive symptoms at 10.5, 13 and 14 years was examined within a structural equation model.ResultsGirls with early menarche (<11.5 years) had the highest level of depressive symptoms at 13 (P = 0.007) and 14 years (P<0.001) compared with those with normative and late timing of menarche.ConclusionsEarly maturing girls are at increased risk of depressive symptoms in adolescence and could be targeted by programmes aimed at early intervention and prevention.

This paper focuses on explaining how individuals set goals on multiple performance episodes, in the context of performance feedback comparing their performance on each episode with their respective goal. The proposed model was tested through a longitudinal study of 493 university students’ actual goals and performance on business school exams. Results of a structural equation model supported the proposed conceptual model in which self-efficacy and emotional reactions to feedback mediate the relationship between feedback and subsequent goals. In addition, as expected, participants’ standing on a dispositional measure of behavioral inhibition influenced the strength of their emotional reactions to negative feedback.

This study focused on college students’ attitudes toward the relationship between online civic responsibility and online civic engagement and its impacts. It also investigated the mediating roles of online civic learning and online civic expression in this relationship. A survey was conducted in Taiwan, testing for indirect effects with mediated variables using a structural equation model. The study tested hypotheses about the mediations of online civic learning and online civic expression on this relationship between online civic responsibility and online civic engagement for college students. The results indicate that the mediators of online civic learning and online civic expression fully mediate the relationship between online civic responsibility and online civic engagement.

The objectification of women by our society can become internalized by women, resulting in negative psychological outcomes. Using Fredrickson and Roberts' (1997) objectification theory, we tested a model of the relationships between self-objectification and disordered eating and depressive symptoms in a sample of undergraduate women ( n = 384). One postulate of self-objectification theory is that self-objectification can lead to a lack of internal awareness, which may mediate the relationship between self-objectification and restrictive eating, bulimic, and depressive symptoms. Results of structural equation modeling suggest that self-objectification has a direct relationship to restrictive eating, bulimic, and depressive symptoms. The mediational role of internal awareness was relevant for depressive symptoms but not for restrictive eating or bulimic symptoms. Depressive symptoms did, however, mediate the relationship between self-objectification and bulimic symptoms. The relevance of our findings to the understanding of objectification theory are discussed and future areas of research recommended.

This study examined the impact of E-CRM on customer loyalty with the mediating effect of customer satisfaction in the banking industry. Customer satisfaction is important for loyalty because when the customers are satisfied with the services offered by their service providers, the relationship gets stronger which further leads to positive word-of-mouth. The data was collected using purposive sampling from 836 banks’ customers who were using E-CRM services and the data was analyzed using structural equation model (SEM) through AMOS. The results revealed that E-CRM and customer satisfaction had a significant positive impact on customer loyalty and also customer satisfaction partially mediated the relationship between E-CRM and customer loyalty. This study would offer useful acumen to both academicians and marketers and would help the bank managers to improve the quality of the services provided to their customers.

During the new normal era after pandemic Covid-19, the tourism destination needs to struggle and adapt for recovery. This process requires optimal human resource performance. The objective of this study is to examine the model of human resource performance in tourism destination after pandemic. Leadership, motivation, and organizational commitment are consider as the antecedents of human resource performance. This study implements a quantitative approach. The data collection method used a questionnaire that distributed to 105 employees in Balkondes as respondent. The data analysis method used Structural Equation Model (SEM) with AMOS. The results show that leadership, motivation, and organizational commitment have a positive and significant effect on human resource performance. The results also show that organizational commitment has mediating effect on the relationship between leadership toward human resource performance, and motivation toward human resource performance.
