The COVID-19 pandemic dynamics in Qatar in the second half of May and the first half of June 2021 was compared with the published results of SIR-simulations based on the data from the period April 25 - May 8, 2021. Forecast verification showed very good agreement with the real number of cases (which can exceed the laboratory-confirmed one more than 5 times). The positive effect of mass vaccination became visible in June 2021.

The visible and real sizes the last COVID-19 epidemic wave in Ukraine, estimated in March 2021 with the use of generalized SIR-model, are compared with number of cases registered in the spring of 2021. We have used the optimal value of the visibility coefficient in order to estimate the real numbers of accumulated cases, real daily numbers of new cases and real number of infectious persons. The results show that the latest prediction for Ukraine is in rather good agreement with observations, but the daily number of new cases decreases more slowly than theoretical predictions. The large real number of infectious people threatens the emergence of new strains of coronavirus and the beginning of new epidemic waves.

The historical works of Tacitus which remain to us are, as is well known, besides the Life of Agricola, the four first books of the Annals, part of the fifth, the sixth, the eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth, and part of the sixteenth, the four first books of the History, and part of the fifth. It is asserted by Brotier, in his excellent edition, that the total number of books must have been sixteen of Annals and fourteen of History, and this assertion has never yet, so far as I know, been doubted or called in question. I think, however, that there are strong grounds for presuming that the real number of books was eighteen of Annals and twelve of History; and, though the point be of small importance, it may perhaps not be without some interest to the admirers of the greatest of Historians.

Objective: to evaluate the efficiency of combination therapy with methotrexate (MTX) and hydroxychloroquine (HC) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in real clinical practice.Patients and methods. The investigation enrolled 430 patients with documented RA who had been followed up for 16 weeks by rheumatologists in different regions of the country. Individual schedules were filled out for the patients, by adding demographic, clinical, and laboratory parameters that made it possible to assess the activity of the disease and to estimate the level of glucose, cholesterol, and low-density lipoproteins (LDL). The results of the investigation were evaluated at the inclusion of patients in it and then at 8 and 16 weeks. Taking into account the insufficient previous effect of MTX, the treatment was enhanced by HC.Results and discussion. By the end of the investigation, the combination therapy with MTX + HC led to significant decreases in the number of swollen and tender joints, the duration of morning stiffness, the severity of pain, and the integrated DAS28 index. The therapy showed a positive effect on the levels of fasting glucose, cholesterol, and LDL. The quality of life improved in patients by Visit 3. The results obtained are in good agreement with the data by foreign and Russian investigators on the greater efficiency of combination therapy with MTX + HC than that of MTX monotherapy and on the pleiotropic (hypolipidemic and hypolipidemic) effect of HC.Conclusion. It is concluded that in Russian practice when monotherapy with MTX shows an insufficient effect or its high doses cannot be administered to enhance the efficacy of RA therapy, it is possible to use a combination of MTX + HC, especially in older patients with comorbidity (hyperglycemia and hypercholesterolemia).

The paper presents a simplified simulation model of the operation of a taxi system. The model retains the main features of a real taxi transportation system and despite its simplicity examines the system behavior in different conditions. It was shown that for every request generation rate a critical number of taxis in disposal could be determined. If the real number of taxis is lower than the critical number, the queue of pending requests grows in an unlimited way. On the other hand, if the real number of taxis is significantly higher, the service level is clearly not better and leads to the waste of taxi drivers’ time and fuel. The presented model can be regarded as a queue system; therefore, the well-known queue theory is used to describe its nature. However, this approach has some practical limitations coming from incomplete knowledge on real transportation demands, which additionally undergo significant fluctuations. A method, which optimizes the assignment of vacant taxis to the pending requests was also introduced. It was proven that this method mitigated the influence of the above-mentioned limitations.
