A quantum Markovian master equation is derived to describe the current noise in resonant tunnelling junctions. We calculate the noise spectrum for a double well device and predict sub-shot noise statistics for strong tunnelling between the wells. The method is an alternative to Greeen's functions methods.

The close similarities between nonlinear optics and nonlinear atom optics motivate us to demonstrate the possibility of atom-optical bistability for a trapped Bose–Einstein condensate. Driven by an intense, coherent input matter wave, the trapped Bose–Einstein condensate might display the bistability when the Born–Markov master equation for the condensate mode is used. The atom-optical bistability provides a way to control atom lasers with atom lasers.

We propose an absorptive measurement scheme via coupled quantum dots based on studies of the quantum dynamics of coherently coupled dots. The system is described through a Markov master equation that is related to a measurable quantity, the current. We analyse the measurement configuration and calculate the correlations and noise spectra beyond the adiabatic approximation.

In this paper a sensitive measuring circuit is described for the measurement of current noise on high quality thin and thick film resistors. Measured data on resistors are presented and analysed.
