A theoretical study of nuclear level density of Thorium nuclei that exist on and off the beta-stability line is carried out using Talys 1.6. The level density parameter a and spin cut-off factor [Formula: see text] for Thorium isotopes [Formula: see text]Th are estimated. The values of both these parameters decrease towards the neutron drip line and the proton drip line. Cross-sections for [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] reactions for Thorium isotopes are also calculated. The estimated and experimental values of cross-sections for [Formula: see text]Th are comparable. These evaluated data are useful in understanding the mechanism of nuclear reactions taking place under extreme conditions including those in nucleosynthesis.

It is shown that reactions with one-pion exchange, reactions of meson production in the central region and reactions of nucleon-antinucleon annihilation can be good laboratories to search, in the ρ+ρ+ and ρ−ρ−channels, for the exotic resonance states E++ and E−− with IG(JP)=2+(2+), the signs of the neutral partner of which were discovered probably in the reactions γγ→ρρ. Detailed estimates are presented for the cross sections of the reactions π+p→E++n→ρ+ρ+n, π−ρ→E−−Δ++→ρ−ρ−∆++, ρρ→n(E++)n→n(ρ+ρ+)n and similar ones at intermediate energies.

The asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) method is used to determine the cross sections of peripheral reactions at astrophysical energies because of existence of the Coulomb barriers. In this paper, we address an estimation of the ANC of 8 B with its single particle wavefunction obtained within the framework of relativistic mean field (RMF) theory. We test the force parameters used in the RMF theory by comparing the calculated structure properties of A = 7–9 drip-line nuclei with experimental results. Utilizing the corrected bound wavefunction of 8 B , the ANC [Formula: see text] is obtained and that indicates the S17(0) is 18.07 eV b. Additionally, we find that the root-mean-square (rms) radius for the loosely bound proton in 8 B is 3.98 fm. This confirms that 8 B has a proton halo structure.

We study the nuclear reaction cross-sections for some of the neutron-rich nuclei in the lighter mass region of the periodic chart which are recently measured. The well-known Glauber formalism is used by taking deformed relativistic and nonrelativistic densities as input in the calculations. We find reasonable reaction cross-sections with both the densities. However with a better inspection of the results, it is noticed that the results obtained with relativistic densities are more closure to the experimental data than the nonrelativistic Skyrme densities.
