<span lang="EN-US">Doubly fed induction generators (DFIG) based wind farms are capable of providing reactive power compensation. Compensation capability enhancement using reactors such as distributed static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM) while connecting distribution generation (DG) systems to grid is imperative. This paper presents an optimal placement and sizing of offshore wind farms in a coastal distribution system that is emulated on an IEEE 33 bus system. A multi-objective formulation for optimal placement and sizing of the offshore wind farms with both the location and size constraints is developed. Teaching learning algorithm is used to optimize the multi-objective function constraining on the capacity and location of the offshore wind farms. The proposed formulation is a multi-objective problem for placement of the wind generator in the power system with dynamic wind supply to the power system. The random wind speed is generated as the input and the wind farm output generated to perform the optimal sizing and placement in the distributed system. MATLAB based simulation developed is found to be efficient and robust.</span>

Squirrel-cage induction generator (SCIG), as its structural and economic advantages, has been widely utilized in large wind farms in China. However, the large wind farm composed of induction generators will cause obvious problems to the power system stability due to the dependency on reactive power. At the same time, Doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG), as a new type of wind turbine generator, has excellent dynamic characteristics for operation of wind farms. With the increase in penetration of wind power in power systems, more and more wind farms will use both SCIG and DFIG. In this case, the dynamic characteristic of wind farm on power systems is becoming an important issue especially in terms of the voltage stability. This article is to show by means of simulations the dynamic performance of wind farm linked to power system under the circumstances of network disturbances. Furthermore, the interaction between the SCIGs and DFIGs has also been investigated. A detailed model of wind farms is presented through the plat root of MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation results demonstrate that the DFIG applications will largely improve the dynamic performance of wind farm in certain conditions, if the DFIGs could be applied reasonably, the voltage stability of the wind farm will be largely improved and even low voltage ride through(LVRT) characteristic of SCIGs, which may be a good solution to reduce the high dependence of costly reactive power compensation equipment(Some flexible AC transmission systems devices like SVC, STATCOM) to some extent.

With the Asynchronous wind generators as research object, this paper analyzes the problems of the voltage stability and the generation mechanism of the reactive power compensation during the wind farms connected operation. For paralleling capacitor bank has shown obvious defects, therefore this paper employs dynamic reactive power compensation to improve reactive characteristics of grid-connected wind farms. With the influences of different wind disturbances and grid faults on wind farms, wind farm model is set up and dynamic reactive power compensation system and wind speeds are built in the Matlab/Simulink software, The simulation result shows that they can provide reactive power compensation to ensure the voltage stability of the wind farms. But STATCOM needs less reactive compensation capacity to make sure the voltage and active power approaching steady state before the faults more quickly, Therefore STATCOM is more suitable for wind farms connected dynamic reactive power compensation.

Abstract In recent years, the use of wind energy to generate electricity in the world has been accelerating and growing. Wind farms are unstable when dynamic voltage fluctuations occur, especially sudden and sudden changes in load, and show oscillating performance at their output. In this paper, the Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) has been simulated and studied by Matlab software to improve the dynamic stability and transient behavior of the wind power plant in the event of sudden load changes. The simulation results show that by controlling the UPFC series inverter, voltage fluctuations in the PCC bus are prevented and the UPFC parallel inverter injects power after changing the load for faster recovery and stability of the PCC bus voltage and thus the stability of the wind farm. The UPFC can control the active and reactive power at the transmission line, and in fact, controls the output of the wind turbine with the generator from both sides to the fluctuations caused by sudden load changes that play a role such as sudden disturbances and oscillating errors. Also, the presence of UPFC in the system reduces power fluctuations.

Purpose Although the wind power industry has been booming in China during the last decade, the development of wind turbine aftermarket service is still lagging behind, which seriously affects the operational efficiency of wind farms. If wind turbine manufacturers get involved in the aftermarket, the service pricing policy will impact the profits of both the manufacturer and the wind farm. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss an optimal service pricing strategy in the wind turbine aftermarket and design a method to improve electricity generation efficiency through service contract design. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach In order to decide the maintenance quantity and channel effort level, the authors design a normal Stackelberg game and an efficiency value-added revenue-sharing contract and discuss two kinds of revenue increment sharing models under situations, in which the supply chain’s leaders are the wind farm and the wind turbine manufacturer, respectively. Findings The results show that in either case, there exist optimal power generation revenue-sharing ratios that can maximize profit. At the same time, the authors outline an optimal service pricing policy, maintenance demand policy and channel service effort-level policy. The results summarize the influences of wind aftermarket services on wind farms’ and wind turbine manufacturers’ profit, which provides managerial insights into the process of manufacturing servitization. Practical implications The manufacturer’s channel effort level will influence the power generation increments very much, so the authors have developed a mechanism to stimulate the manufacturer improving the efficiency of aftermarket services. Originality/value Taking the power generation increment revenue as the profit increment function, the authors discuss the influence of service price on the profit increment of the wind farm and the wind turbine manufacturer and also consider the influence of service price on the wind farms maintenance quantity and wind turbine manufacturers channel effort level.

Some faults will result wind turbine generators off-grid due to low grid voltage , furthermore, large-scale wind farms tripping can result in severe system oscillation and aggravate system transient instability . In view of this, static compensator (STATCOM) is installed in the grid containing large-scale wind farm. A voltage feedforward control strategy is proposed to adjust the reactive power of STATCOM compensation and ensure that the grid voltage is quickly restored to a safe range. The mathematical model of the doubly-fed induction wind generator (DFIG) is proposed. The control strategy of DFIG uses PI control for rotor angular velocity and active power. 4-machine system simulation results show that the STATCOM reactive power compensation significantly improve output active power of large-scale wind farm satisfying transient stability, reduce the probability of the tripping, and improve the utilization efficiency of wind farms.

Due to randomness and fluctuation of wind speed, reliability of power system will be affected severely with increasing wind energy injected into power grid. In order to evaluate the effect on reliability of power system with wind farms, the author considers feature of time-sequential and self-correlation of wind speeds and builds an auto-regressive and moving average (ARMA) model to forecast wind speeds. Combining with state models of conventional generating units, transmission lines and transformers, a time-sequential Monte Carlo simulation reliability model is proposed to do reliability assessment of composite generation and transmission system with wind farm. IEEE-RTS test system is introduced to prove the proposed model. Analysis and comparison of results show that reliability can be improved clearly after integration of wind farm.

A reactive power/voltage control strategy is proposed that uses wind turbines as distributed reactive power sources to optimize the power flow in large-scale wind farms and reduce the overall losses of the collector system. A mathematical model of loss optimization for the wind farm collector systems is proposed based on a reactive power/voltage sensitivity analysis; a genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm are used to validate the optimization performances. The simulation model is established based on a large-scale wind farm. The results of multiple scenarios show that the proposed strategy is superior to the traditional methods with regard to the reactive power/voltage control of the wind farm and the loss reduction of the collector system. Furthermore, the advantages in terms of annual energy savings and environmental protection are also estimated.

With the scale of the wind farm growing fast, its impact on the power system has become increasingly apparent. So the research has a significant meaning on the characteristics of dynamic stability of the power system which contains wind farms, and the stable operation of the large area interconnected power grid. In this paper it realized the application of the double-fed wind turbine grid model by using power system analysis software PSD-BPA. The analysis of the generator power Angle curve which indicate the state after the failure of N-1 shows as follows: with the wind farms integration on the grid, the damping ratio is decreased slightly but little change after the system failure of N-1, which is still live up to the standard of grid stability.
