Liz Fell’s interview in 2011 with the Australian Shadow Minister for Telecommunications, Malcolm Turnbull MP, was notable for his combativeness (rare amongst her interviewees). In tribute to both Ms Fell and Mr Turnbull, we republish that interview with the future Prime Minister who, as Minister for Communications in 2013-15, implemented the multi-technology mix redesign of the National Broadband Network.

TelSoc has held its first forum on the future of Australia’s National Broadband Network (NBN). Three papers from that forum are published in this issue. TelSoc is planning a second forum, discussing the user potential of the NBN, in October 2019. The historical reprint in this issue is also NBN-related about online learning. The technical papers in this issue concern architectural issues in the Internet of Things and cybersecurity. The Journal welcomes further contributions on telecommunications and the digital economy.

This paper provides a comprehensive review of urban transportation network design problems according to CiteSpace, including main problem classifications, mathematical models, and solution methods obtained from CiteSpace clusters. The review attempts to present the systematic picture of urban transportation network design and show the future directions of it.

Information theory has made great impact on the research of communication systems. However, analyze and design of networks has not benefited too much from information theory. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the information-theoretical framework of context aware network to explore the relationship between the information and the network performance. We also analyze the information traffic process in context aware network. To illustrate our approach, we analyze the architecture of context aware network by the information entropy produced in the network, and discuss the way to improve the performance of context aware in an information-theoretic perspective. The results in this paper may be also used to design other network and guide the future network design.
