In this paper, we demonstrate an innovative electromagnetic targeting system utilizing a passive magnetic-flux-concentrator for tracking endobronchoscope used in the diagnosis process of lung cancer tumors/lesions. The system consists of a magnetic-flux emitting coil, a magnetic-flux receiving electromagnets-array, and high permeability silicon-steel sheets rolled as a collar (as the passive magnetic-flux-concentrator) fixed in a guide sheath of an endobronchoscope. The emitting coil is used to produce AC magnetic-flux, which is consequently received by the receiving electromagnets-array. Due to the electromagnetic-induction, a voltage is induced in the receiving electromagnets-array. When the endobronchoscope’s guide sheath (with the silicon-steel collar) travels between the emitting coil and the receiving electromagnets-arrays, the magnetic flux is concentrated by the silicon-steel collar and thereby the induced voltage is changed. Through analyzing the voltage–pattern change, the location of the silicon–steel collar with the guide sheath is targeted. For testing, a bronchial-tree model for training medical doctors and operators is used to test our system. According to experimental results, the system is successfully verified to be able to target the endobronchoscope in the bronchial-tree model. The targeting errors on the x-, y- and z-axes are 9 mm, 10 mm, and 5 mm, respectively.

This article elucidates on the concept of electromagnetism and electromagnetic induction with a view to explaining the theory of magnetic stimulation, used to cure diseases in human beings. Magnetic stimulation follows the principles of electromagnetism. A changing primary current induces secondary currents, which are called eddy currents, in the nearby conductors (human tissue in this case). The strength of the electric field is measured by its electromotive force (emf), which in turn, is measured in volts. The changing primary current also gives rise to an induced voltage in the primary loop itself. The essential circuitry of a magnetic stimulator is composed of three elements, the capacitor, inductance of the stimulation coil, and a switch to connect them. This article also explains the process of the energy flow system through the inductor-capacitor system, applying this principle to the biphasic TMS pulse.

High voltage (HV) infrastructures market is growing due to the corresponding growth in industries and population. To ensure continuous and reliable electrical power supply, existing substation and transmission lines are being upgraded to accommodate the additional load requirements. These upgrades involve up-rating the existing transmission lines or the installation of new lines. To save on easement cost and reduce the environmental impacts, transmission lines are occupied the same easement or path. This parallel option introduces the risk of induced voltage which could reach an unsafe condition and jeopardize the safety of works and people. This paper analysis and highlight the hidden risk associated with two parallel transmission lines that connected the same high voltage substation. The theoretical study which is supported by the case study shows the high risk potential tempering with the OHEW on the isolated circuit while the other one is still energized

The results of modeling the effects of a high-voltage cable with cross-linked polyethylene insulation on adjacent power lines are presented. The calculations of the induced voltage on the adjacent voltage line were performed for five modes of operation of the 110 kV cable: symmetric and four unbalanced, caused by short circuits between the conductors, as well as between the conductors and the screen.

This paper presents a high voltage gain of a DC-DC converter. The proposed system consists of voltage multiplier circuits and a coupled inductor of a boost DC-DC converter. The input voltage of the voltage multiplier circuit is the induced voltage of inductor at a boost DC-DC converter. The field programmable gate array (FGPA) is used for generating the control signal of the proposed system. To verify the proposed circuit, an experiment was conducted from the prototype circuit. The proposed circuit can step-up the voltage with high voltage gain. Moreover, the voltage across the switch is very low.

Abstract High-voltage infrastructure upgrade is expending due to the growth in populations. To save on easement cost and to reduce the environmental impact of these projects, HV transmission lines occupy the same easement as pipelines in many cases. This joint easement introduces the AC interference between transmission lines and pipelines. The induced voltage can reach a limit which will jeopardize the human safety. The cited research studies the induced voltage under the presence of the overhead earth wire (OHEW) using the shielding factor. The work in this paper studies the induced voltage using the OHEW section current along with the superposition theorem. The simulations are compared to the existing research methods. The case study along with the theoretical study discusses the advance accuracy of the proposed method over the existing shield factor used in the presence research. Furthermore, they introduce the effective length along with the effective shielding factor, which aids in computing the additional effect that the OHEW has on the induced voltage.
