A new algorithm simulating the impacts of the VAR supporting devices such as the static var compensators (SVCs) and the synchronous condensers (SCs) under condition of symmetrical disturbances in multi-machine power system is mentioned. Some typical numerical examples are presented in this article. The comparisons of variation of the state parameters, such as the voltage, frequency, reactive power outputs and asynchronous torques…are simulated under condition of the action of the automatic voltage regulation systems of generators and of the VAR supporting devices. The transient energy margins are calculated and compared to assess the transient stability in multi-machine power system. Basing on this algorithm, the PC program uses the elements of the eigen-image matrix to bring the specific advantages for the simulation of the transient features of state variables.

The growth of micro and mini distributed generation and, more recently, the use of electric energy storage systems and the incentives for electric mobility are important examples of the transformations that distribution networks have been going through. In this context, this paper firstly presents the impacts of uncoordinated plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) charging in a real Brazilian distribution system. Four scenarios were elaborated with different PEVs penetration levels and the results show increased voltage unbalance, system losses, and violations of the steady-state voltage limits, even in the presence of an automatic voltage regulator installed in the medium voltage network. Then, as the main contribution, the potential usage of automatic voltage regulation at the low voltage network was investigated to minimize the negative impacts of uncontrolled PEV charging on distribution system steady-state operation. It is important to highlight that this is not a common practice of utilities in Brazil. The obtained results showed that regulating the voltage at the low voltage side could be an effective solution to keep the voltages within statutory limits.

Liquid-to-air membrane energy exchangers (LAMEEs) are a new generation of energy exchangers in air-conditioning systems to transfer both heat and moisture. In this paper, the performance of a 200 cfm LAMEE is numerically and experimentally investigated under summer and winter test conditions when Lithium Chloride (LiCl) is used as a salt solution in the exchanger. The results show that the LAMEE has almost the same total effectiveness at summer and winter conditions, but the latent effectiveness of the LAMEE is higher at the summer conditions. Also, the agreement between the experimental and numerical results is acceptable for all the tests, and they are within their uncertainty ranges except for the latent effectiveness of the LAMEE tested under winter test conditions.

This paper illustrates a fuzzy gain scheduling of PI plus derivative controller. The proposed control technique improves the transient response of a DC/DC converter. The proposed control system is easy to implement based on an STM32F4 microcontroller. The performance evaluation was done by an experiment through a boost DC/DC converter, with a 24W load, a 12V input voltage, and a 24V output voltage, respectively. The system operation achieves tight output voltage regulation, both for the steady-state and transient responses.
