Achieving a precise fault diagnosis for rolling bearings under variable conditions is a problematic challenge. In order to enhance the classification and achieves a higher precision for diagnosing rolling bearing degradation, a hybrid method is proposed. The method combines wavelet packet transform, singular value decomposition and support vector machine. The first step of the method is the decomposition of the signal using wavelet packet transform and then instantaneous amplitudes and energy are computed for each component. The Second step is to apply the singular value decomposition to the matrix constructed by the instantaneous amplitudes and energy in order to reduce the matrix dimension and obtaining the fault feature unaffected by the operating condition. The features extracted by singular value decomposition are then used as an input to the support vector machine in order to recognize the fault mode of rolling bearings. The method is applied to a bearing with faults created using electro-discharge machining under laboratory conditions. Test results show that the proposed methodology is effective to classify rolling bearing faults with high accuracy.

On the basis of wavelet packet-characteristic entropy(WP-CE) and multiclass fuzzy support vector machine(MFSVM), the author proposes a new fault diagnosis method of vibrating of hearings,in which three layers wavelet packet decomposition of the acquired vibrating signals of hearings is performed and the wavelet packet-characteristic entropy is extracted, the eigenvector of wavelet packet of the vibrating signals is constructed, and taking this eigenvector as fault sample multiclass fuzzy support vector machine is trained to implement the intelligent fault diagnosis. The simulation result from the proposed method is effective and feasible.

This paper proposes advancement in the fault diagnosis of induction motors (IMs) based on the wavelet packet transform (WPT) and the support vector machine (SVM). The aim of this work is to develop and perform the fault diagnosis of IMs at intermediate operating conditions (i.e., the speed and the load) to take care of situations where the data are limited or difficult to obtain at required speeds and loads. In order to check the capability of proposed fault diagnosis, ten different IM fault (mechanical and electrical) conditions are considered simultaneously. In order to obtain the useful information from raw time series data that can characterize each of the fault classes at various operating conditions, the wavelet packet is applied to decompose the data of vibration and current signals from the experimental test rig. Fault features are then obtained using the decomposed data and further used for the diagnosis. In this work, five different wavelet functions (i.e., the Haar, Daubechies, Symlet, Coiflet, and Discrete Meyer) are considered in order to analyze the impact of different wavelets on the IM fault diagnosis. The proposed fault diagnosis has been initially attempted for the same speed and load cases and then extended innovatively to the intermediate speed and load cases. In order to check the robustness of the proposed methodology, the diagnosis is performed for a wide range of motor operating conditions. The results show the feasibility of the proposed fault diagnosis for the successful detection and isolation of various faults of IM, even with limited data or information at some motor operating conditions.

This paper presents an effective approach for aero-engine fault diagnosis with focus on rub-impact, through combination of improved local discriminant bases (LDB) with support vector machine (SVM). The improved LDB algorithm, using both the normalized energy difference and the relative entropy as quantification measures, is applied to choose the optimal set of orthogonal subspaces for wavelet packet transform- (WPT-) based signal decomposition. Then two optimal sets of orthogonal subspaces have been obtained and the energy features extracted from those subspaces appearing in both sets will be selected as input to a SVM classifier to diagnose aero-engine faults. Experiment studies conducted on an aero-engine rub-impact test system have verified the effectiveness of the proposed approach for classifying working conditions of aero-engines.

To solve the problem that the bearing fault of variable working conditions is challenging to identify and classify in the industrial field, this paper proposes a new method based on optimization of multidimension fault energy characteristics and integrates with an improved least-squares support vector machine (LSSVM). First, because the traditional wavelet energy feature is difficult to effectively reflect the characteristics of rolling bearing under different working conditions, based on analyzing the wavelet energy feature extraction in detail, a collaborative method of multidimension fault energy feature extraction combined with the method of Transfer Component Analysis (TCA) is constructed, which improves the discrimination between the different features and the compactness between the same features of rolling bearing faults. Then, for solving the problem of the local optimal of particle swarm optimization (PSO) in fault diagnosis and recognition of rolling bearing, an improved LSSVM based on particle swarm optimization and wavelet mutation optimization is established to realize the collaborative optimization and adjustment of LSSVM dynamic parameters. Based on the improved LSSVM and optimization of multidimensional energy characteristics, a new method for fault diagnosis of rolling bearing is designed. Finally, the simulation and analysis of the proposed algorithm are verified by the experimental data of different working conditions. The experimental results show that this method can effectively extract the multidimensional fault characteristics under variable working conditions and has a high fault recognition rate.
