The method to discriminate the fault within or beyond the protective zone according to the signals with high frequency detected in protection has problem with low reliability when the resistance of earth fault is high. The transient voltage with low frequency detected in protection can reflect the size of fault intensity approximately, and the transient voltage with high frequency detected in protection in internal fault is bigger than that in external fault when the size of fault intensity is same. The high frequency transient voltage and low frequency transient voltage detected in protection are chosen as inputs and fault section as outputs for training and testing the neural network for fault identification in the UHVDC transmission line, fault section can be identified when input fault characteristic data to the trained model. A variety of transmission line earth fault situation are simulated by PSCAD, and this earth fault section identification method based ANN shows satisfactory performance, even the fault resistance is high.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has been extensively used in the monitoring of natural hazards such as floods and landslides. Predicting whether natural hazards will cause serious harm to important facilities on the ground is an important subject of study. In this study, the distance between the water body and the tower and the flood ratio in the search area and the elevation are defined as the evaluation indicators of the flood hazard of the tower, indicating whether flooding will threaten the safety of the transmission line tower. Herein, transmission tower flood identification algorithms based on the center distance of the tower and the grid distance of the tower are proposed. SAR satellite image data of the flood with a resolution of 10 m are selected to prove the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed fault identification algorithm. The simulation results show that the SAR satellite image data with a resolution of 10 m can identify the distance accuracy of the transmission tower flood hazard by up to 7 m, which can be used to identify the flood fault of the transmission line tower.

We present a new concept of the thermoelectric structure that generates microwave and terahertz signals when illuminated by femtosecond optical pulses. The structure consists of a series array of capacitively coupled thermocouples. The array acts as a hybrid type microwave transmission line with anomalous dispersion and phase velocity higher than the velocity of light. This allows for adding up the responces from all the thermocouples in phase. The array is easily integrable with microstrip transmission lines. Dispersion curves obtained from both the lumped network scheme and numerical simulations are presented. The connection of the thermocouples is a composite right/left-handed transmission line, which can receive terahertz radiation from the transmission line ports. The radiation of the photon to the surface of the thermocouple structure causes a voltage difference with the bandwidth of terahertz. We examined a lossy composite right/left-handed transmission line to extract the circuit elements. The calculated properties of the design are extracted by employing commercial software package CST STUDIO SUITE.
