In electromechanical products form design, there still exist problems such as CAD supporting incompletely and low-usage of existent excellent case form information, this paper proposed a comprehensive method of product form design, which integrated morphological matrix, BP network, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), Gray Relating Analyze (GRA) and Genetic Algorithms. According to the heritability of product form features, this method deconstructed case product modeling components and form elements to obtain the form features, then the features and feature values of product form were represented by morphologic matrix, finally product form design scheme were combined with reasonable solutions. Grading method and AHP were used to quantify the modeling components feature, form elements and perceptual image vocabularies of case product, and a BP network model was trained for form scheme image prediction. This article constructed the genetic algorithm fitness function with the weighed grey relation grade to optimize the product form scheme based on customers’ requirements. VC++ was applied to develop the design software, the design of electric bicycle form scheme was taken to illustrate the application process of this method.

Purpose – This paper aims to propose a numerical definition-based systematic design approach (NDSDA) to generate an explicit numerical definition of the product form profile and to establish the correlation between the product form features and the corresponding consumers’ image perceptions. Design/methodology/approach – To illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method, this study considers the design of a two-dimensional automobile profile for illustration purposes and commences by developing a detailed numerical definition of an automobile profile using Bézier curves. A series of automobile image evaluations are conducted to examine the relationship between the characteristics of an automobile profile and its associated consumer image perception. Finally, the evaluation results are analyzed statistically, and the statistical results are used to construct mathematical models formalizing the correlations between the automobile profile design variables and the consumers’ perceptions of the product image. Findings – The results of the evaluation trials are used to construct mathematical models capable of predicting the likely consumer response to any automobile profile designed in accordance with the numerical definition. Furthermore, the evaluation data enable the critical design variables and form features to be determined such that the efficacy of the design process in creating automobiles which better meet the consumers’ image aspirations can be improved. Originality/value – The major contribution of the NDSDA methodology presented in this study is the ability it gives to designers to specify the product form in a detailed yet highly efficient manner. Furthermore, the numerical definition of the product form not only provides a suitable basis for identifying the critical design variables and form features of the product but also provides an understanding of how these variables should be manipulated to obtain or reinforce the desired product image.

To obtain high-quality bionic design scheme of product form, this paper explores the matching relationship between users’ biological form features and their images from the level of implicit cognition, providing objective basis for effective selection of ideographic biological form features in bionic design of product form. The eye movement experiment was used to screen the biomorphic feature group that was focused on. Questionnaire survey and cluster analysis were used to obtain the main image phrases of the morphological feature group. The two collected materials were combined with implicit cognitive measurement (IAT) to obtain the response time data of the subjects in the classification task. According to Greenwald’s method to verify the effectiveness of the data as a whole, the response time of the combination of various features and images in the compatibility group is sorted to obtain the design guidance conclusion. Taking the white shouldered eagle as an example, the experimental data showed high validity by t-test, and the implicit effect value of the compatibility group was 0.68. According to the analysis of the data, the main image that most matches the head shape characteristics of the white shouldered eagle is “Ferocious”, and the main image that most matches the wing shape characteristics is “Lightsome”, and there is no difference in the implicit cognitive attitude between men and women. The designer takes this as the design reference to improve the effectiveness of the design output. This study can provide more objective suggestions for the bionic design of the related product shape.

Brands can help companies achieve their growth objectives more quickly and more profitably. Product form is the main consideration of customers purchase. As one intact products design, not only must we standardize and set restrictions in concerning production, sales and marketing and design itself, but also have to provide different product form for different brands to some extent. Reserve these product form features in the products should establish the company’s product form style so that the product form is distinguishable, unique, thus set up corporate image to keep the brand loyalty of consumers.

Abstract Referring agents may ask independent medical evaluators if the examinee can return to work in either a normal or a restricted capacity; similarly, employers may ask external parties to conduct this type of assessment before a hire or after an injury. Functional capacity evaluations (FCEs) are used to measure agility and strength, but they have limitations and use technical jargon or concepts that can be confusing. This article clarifies key terms and concepts related to FCEs. The basic approach to a job analysis is to collect information about the job using a variety of methods, analyze the data, and summarize the data to determine specific factors required for the job. No single, optimal job analysis or validation method is applicable to every work situation or company, but the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission offers technical standards for each type of validity study. FCEs are a systematic method of measuring an individual's ability to perform various activities, and results are matched to descriptions of specific work-related tasks. Results of physical abilities/agilities tests are reported as “matching” or “not matching” job demands or “pass” or “fail” meeting job criteria. Individuals who fail an employment physical agility test often challenge the results on the basis that the test was poorly conducted, that the test protocol was not reflective of the job, or that levels for successful completion were inappropriate.
