Today, environmental pollution is a global problem. Industrialization, rapid urbanization, technological advances, economic developments and increasing world population have brought environmental pollution with them. Environmental pollution has reached a level that threatens human health and safety. Environmental management systems are useful and important in many ways such as reducing the negative effects of businesses on the environment, creating a safe working environment, preventing pollution, reducing costs, reducing risks, improving environmental performance, and improving corporate image. The aim of this study is to emphasize the importance of ISO 14000 environmental management system standards for sustainable development and environment in business. In this direction, the study explains sustainable development, sustainable environment, the characteristics, importance, development, stages, standards and benefits of the ISO 14000 environmental management system for businesses.

PurposeThe aim of this paper is to understand the importance of consumer loyalty in the specific context of Hotel Family Business. This study proposes a conceptual model to examine how perceived service quality and corporate social responsibility (SCR) influence guest satisfaction and loyalty, and also how they relate to corporate image, perceived value and price.Design/methodology/approachThrough the structural equation model (SEM), a research model was proposed to examine SQ and CSR affect satisfaction and loyalty to the Douro Family Hotel and also, how they interact with corporate image, perceived value and price. The main purpose is to analyse the drivers of guest loyalty and its importance for the development and sustainability of family hotels in Douro (Portugal).FindingsThe results of the study indicate that CSR and SQ perceived by the guest have a direct and positive effect on guest satisfaction and loyalty to Douro family hotels. These variables are also determinants of the perceived value, corporate image and price.Research limitations/implicationsThe sample is restricted and obtained by the convenience technique, but with sufficient size for the application of the structural equations model. However, the results obtained cannot be generalised to all hotels or contexts, as they only reflect information on family hotels in the Douro.Practical implicationsFamily businesses are a substantial share of the European economy, from the industrial sector to the services industry, including also hospitality. In Portugal, family businesses likewise play a key role, both in terms of wealth creation and job creation.Originality/valueThese findings provide knowledge to family hotels on how they should implement a CSR policy that promotes service quality, corporate image and guest satisfaction, and therefore their loyalty and the competitiveness of the family hotel business.

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the impact of proactive environmental strategy, competitive differentiation advantage & cost-leadership competitive advantage for the competitive, sustainable development of an organization in terms of its performances, for instance, product strategy, production, process & financial performances. We incorporated technological eco-innovation as a mediating factor & corporate image as a moderator between exogenous & endogenous variables. We have collected 798 responses from China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. For the data analyses, we employed a structural equation modeling-based multivariate approach and conditional process modeling. The novelty and significance of the undertaken study rested in multifaceted outcomes; for instance, the proactive environmental strategy, the competitive advantage of differentiation & competitive advantage of cost leadership have a significant & positive impact on the sustainable development of an organization in terms of its performances, for example, product strategic, production & financial performances. The findings further demonstrate that technological eco-innovation as a mediating factor & corporate image as a moderating factor played vital and significant influencers between exogenous and endogenous variables. Finally, the Toda- Yamamoto causality showed the two-ways directionality between exogenous & endogenous variables. The outcomes have provided critical practical and societal implications for the industry and society. The companies may incorporate the environment as a cornerstone in short & longterm strategies for sustainable development. On the other hand, organizations may provide an eco-friendly environment to society.

PurposeThe theory-building around the quality of human resources has received extensive attention in recent years. Numerous quantitative studies discuss and test theories related to total quality management and human resource linkages. The study aims to understand interlinkages of quality and human resources using Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM) methodology and DEMATEL.Design/methodology/approachThis paper uses ISM methodology to examine the interrelationship between the identified variables and the DEMATEL approach to find cause–effect relationships. An integrated approach helps managers for better total quality management (TQM) implementation. This study further extended using Total Interpretative Structural Modeling (TISM).FindingsThe integrated approach of ISM and DEMATEL shows that leadership development, hiring process and training development become most important for TQM implementation. The outcome of ISM shows customer satisfaction and corporate image are depending on other practices, where DEMATEL analysis revealed that eight practices cause and remaining are effective practices.Originality/valueThis research's integrated approach helps the firm identify essential practices, and further interdependency can be developed from cause and effect analysis. The study also provided a novel approach to implementing TQM practices.

Abstract China has put forward the goals of “Emission Peak” and “Carbon Neutrality”. Therefore, whether the restriction of carbon information disclosure could promote the transformation and upgrading of heavily polluting corporations to raise their value and realize the “double carbon” goal is a problem worthy of in-depth study. This article analyzed the impact of carbon information disclosure on the enterprise value of heavily polluting corporations based on the perspective of ownership structure heterogeneity. The paper discussed the moderating effect of carbon information disclosure on enterprise value taking into account government environmental regulations, media evaluation, and corporate image management based on the Gatekeeper Theory. This article found that carbon information disclosure and enterprise value have a “U-shaped” relationship in the short term and a positive correlation in the long term. The government environmental regulation, media evaluation, and corporate image management produced different moderating effects under the difference in ownership structure. Government environmental regulations, media evaluation, and corporate image management made significant moderating effects on state-owned corporations in the short term, while they have no significant moderating effect in the long term. The results also showed that there were no significant effects on private corporations. In order to push heavily polluting corporations to implement environmental protection measures, government and corporations are necessary to promote the long-term mechanism of sustainable cleaner production.
