The article presents results of strength tests of bismuth telluride prismatic samples obtained by growing crystals. These crystals have semiconductor properties and are used in the heat machines, the run-ability of which largely depends on the strength of crystals. Data available in the literature are significantly different from each other. It has been shown that, the most consistent strength tests results are obtained in case of bend testing. The measurement results of the elasticity modulus and tensile strength are given. For tests, an INSTRON testing machine with maximum direct stress of the 1000 H was used.

Rapid maxillary expansion is defined as the release of medio-palatine suture using an orthopedic forces. The role of this procedure is to expand  the upper jaw in order to achieve the  broadening of the upper arch. This study was initiated to quantify the effects of disjunction and post- treatment bone changes, after an adequate contention which lasted for three weeks. This study  is  carried on laboratory animals (common breed rabbit) to determine tensile strength and the elasticity modulus of  biological materials  used in orthdodontics. The results of the study are consistent with those reported in the literature reference.

AbstractIonically conducting materials containing PEO were prepared from telechelic di(methyl-diethoxy-silane) PEO, synthesized by the hydrosilylation of telechelic diallyl-PEO with methyldiethoxysilane. The network is obtained by the usual sol-gel chemistry. Then, it is filled with LiClO4 by diffusion of the salt and further drying. A comparison is made with the same kind of materials crosslinked using urethane chemistry. Diffusion studies show that the diffusion coefficient of solvent is similar for both types of materials, whilst the ionic conductivity is higher for the networks crosslinked with siloxane bonds. An experiment of diffusion of LiClO4 without solvent showed that this salt has a diffusion coefficient of the order of 2.10-8 cm2.sec-1 at 34°C. The conductivity calculated from this determination is compatible with the mechanism of lithium cation transport by the diffusion of salt molecules. Elasticity modulus measurements show that the salt aggregates are essentially located within the crosslinks at low concentration, but also in the PEO chains for salt concentrations higher than 1 mol/l.

This paper investigates the mechanical and shrinkage behaviour of concrete with recycled cement (RC) thermoactivated from waste cement paste and waste concrete. Overall, compared to ordinary Portland cement (OPC), for the same water/binder ratio, the mechanical strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity were not significantly influenced by the incorporation of RC. The elasticity modulus decreased with the addition of RC and the shrinkage tended to increase at high RC content. The incorporation of up to 15% RC allowed the production of workable concrete with identical shrinkage and similar to higher mechanical strength than concrete with only OPC. RC proved to be a very promising more eco-efficient supplementary cementitious material.
