Abstract AISI Type 405 has marginal stainless corrosion resistance. It is used primarily as a structural material. It is serviceable in continuous service up to 1300 F and in intermittent exposures up to 1500 F. It does not harden appreciably when air cooled from high temperatures where some austenite may exist. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-129. Producer or source: Alloy steel mills and foundries. Originally published March 1962, revised April 1988.

Abstract UPM CP Titanium Grade 3 (UNS R50550) is an unalloyed commercially pure titanium that exhibits moderate strength (higher strength than that of Titanium Grade 2), along with excellent formability and corrosion resistance. It offers the highest ASME allowable design stress of any commercially pure grade of titanium, and can be used in continuous service up to 425 °C (800 °F) and in intermittent service up to 540 °C (1000 °F). This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, and elasticity. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Ti-167. Producer or source: United Performance Metals.

Abstract ALLEGHENY STAINLESS TYPE 434 is a low-carbon ferritic stainless steel with good corrosion resistance to mildly corrosive environments and the atmosphere. It is oxidation resistant at temperatures up to 1600 F for intermittent service and up to 1450-1500 F for continuous service. It is used for automotive trim and other exterior environments. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness and fatigue. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: SS-292. Producer or source: Allegheny Ludlum Corporation.

Rudolph Matas (1860-1957) was one of the foremost figures in the history of vascular surgery. He is considered the father of vascular surgery for his operations for arteriovenous fistula and peripheral artery aneurysm, all devised before the isolation of heparin and the wide adoption of techniques for vascular anastomosis. A medical and surgical prodigy, Matas received his medical degree from Tulane University at age 19 (1880) and was named its chair of surgery at 35 (1895), a position he would hold until 1927. A contemporary and friend of Halsted, Matas throughout his career he was known as a leader in the field, holding the presidencies of the American College of Surgeons (1925-1926) and the American Surgical Association (1909). He maintained loyal relationships to those who trained in surgery with him at Touro Hospital in New Orleans, including the author’s grandfather, the first Richard J. Field. Matas was an honored guest at the dedication of the Centreville Clinic in 1928, the facility where three generations of Field surgeons have provided continuous service to its rural Mississippi community for nearly a century.

Abstract ATI CP Grade 11 Titanium is an unalloyed titanium grade that contains 0.12-0.25% Pd. This palladium-containing alloy extends the range of application of commercially pure (CP) titanium in HCl, H3PO4, and H2SO4 solutions. ATI CP Grade 11 Titanium is used in applications requiring excellent corrosion resistance in chemical processing or storage applications where the media is mildly reducing or fluctuates between oxidizing and reducing. It can be used in continuous service up to 425 °C (795 °F) and in intermittent service up to 540 °C (1000 °F). This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, and joining. Filing Code: Ti-179. Producer or source: ATI.

UK employment law does not give equal protection to everyone considered to be working for an employer. In fact, a substantial minority of people who work for private firms, companies and public sector organisations do not enjoy the protection of employment law in some significant respects. There are four types of situation that often deny people the opportunity to bring their claims to court: when a claimant is not considered to be an employee; when a claimant is not considered to be a worker; when a claimant (who is an employee) has not completed sufficient continuous service with their employer; and when a claimant is found not to be working legally in the UK. In addition, employment tribunals operate strict limits on how soon after someone is dismissed or suffers from an instance of unlawful discrimination they make a claim if they want it to be heard. For most tribunal jurisdictions this time limit is set at three months, meaning that after this period has passed a claim cannot be considered because it is ‘out of time’. In practice this rule can also act as a fifth type of barrier preventing people from accessing their employment rights. This chapter focuses on these five types of situations.

This Paper describes continuation of efforts to improve the low reliability of the high power, high pitch velocity gear boxes. These gear boxes are located in oil and gas production facilities (OAGPF) and serve to transmit the power from gas turbine drivers to large, two or three case turbo compressor trains. Life expectancy of these gear boxes did not meet predicted life expectancy of typical high speed, high energy gear boxes. This paper deals with various modifications of these gear boxes which were necessary to improve very low, initial 34% reliability. The series of modifications improved gear boxes life expectancies, however they never reached desired goal that is at least 10 years of continuous service without gear elements failures.
