Flooding is a dangerous phenomenon, causing emergency situations and causing material damage, capable of damaging health, and even death of people. To reduce the risk and economic damage from flooding, it is necessary to forecast flooding areas. An effective method of forecasting emergency situations due to flooding is the method of remote sensing of the Earth with integration into geoinformation systems. With the help of satellite imagery, a model of flooding was determined based on the example of Tavda, the Sverdlovsk Region. Space images are loaded into the geoinformation system and on their basis a series of thematic layers is created, which contains information about the zones of possible flooding at given water level marks. The determination of the area of flooding is based on the calculation of the availability of maximum water levels at hydrological stations. According to the calculated security data, for each hydrological post, flood zones are constructed by interpolation between pre-calculated flood zones of standard security. The results of the work can be used by the Main Directorate of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region.

Abstract National atlases provide comprehensive information about nature, population, social and economic situation of the country. In 2017 the process of compiling and publishing the National Atlas of Lithuania (Lietuvos Nationalinis Atlasas) was finished. The goal of the authors is: in the context of the whole National Atlas to present a thorough analysis of the structure of content and cartographic visualization methods of Volume III. This volume focusses on social and economic phenomena in Lithuania. The authors discuss the principles of compiling the whole National Atlas of Lithuania and presents its structure in a concise manner. Following the classification of traditional mapping methods, specific examples of mapping in Volume III are presented, advantages of mapping techniques are discussed and the structural analysis of mapping methods is also conducted. The conclusions and the discussion part present the problems encountered while compiling Volume III as well as solutions to them.

By the use of digital cartographic visualization, a wide range of relevant data can be systematically integrated, presented and analyzed. In particular, this refers to the connection between thematic and topographic maps and their application in the study of the environment. The specific purpose of the map implies that in certain situations there is no clear difference between the thematic and topographic maps, that is, there is no clear boundary between the thematic and the topographic content of the representation. The paper points to the importance of modeling geoenvironmental data (topographic and thematic) for different scientific and practical research needs. Bearing in mind the global size of orienteering, the heterogeneity of the geoenvironment in which competitions and ways of orientation are organized, it is necessary to standardize this topic at the international level. The conducted experiment of cartographic modeling in the orienteering function has examined the possibilities of application of topographic inventory methods of geoenvironment for this purpose, the importance of using GPS devices for collecting geoenvironmental data and CAD software for cartographic visualization of the issues in question.

In the chapter, the authors present the results of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) applications for military geoinformation system (GIS) task solutions. The results of the visual modelling of the revealing process of invisible military objects from one of point of observation on the mountainous terrain of the Azerbaijan Republic by using UAV are presented. The observation conditions between two points of the selected mountain terrain during battle operation have been investigated using GIS technology. The quantitative method of the invisible area assessment and military objects in mountainous terrain are developed and offered by using UAVs. The numerical estimation method of a task support success of UAV reconnaissance flight in mountainous battle conditions has been offered and considered. Using UAVs for the purpose of orthophotomap making of the terrain and combat control the detailed 3D-model has been constructed.
