Covered-electrode arc welding has been currently widely-spread in assembly and maintenance technologies, as soon as it is a reliable tool, which helps get safe permanent joints in critical structural systems applied in Arctic. It is of burning importance to further enhance accuracy in methods which assess the impact of dynamic properties of power supply equipment with various forms of energy conversion on a consumable electrode welding stability and quality. Literature review [1–11] confirms that objectives, aimed at improving critical (in terms of extreme work and low temperatures) metal structures reliability, demand innovative approaches, i.e.:

Abstract NI-ROD Welding Electrode is used for shielded-metal-arc welding of gray, ductile, and malleable cast irons. It is also used for joints between cast irons and carbon steel or low-alloy steel. The electrode is particularly useful for thin sections and for joints to be machined. NI-ROD welding electrode can be operated in all welding positions. Power supply: direct current, electrode positive is preferred although alternating current can be used. This datasheet provides information on composition and tensile properties. It also includes information on joining. Filing Code: Ni-490. Producer or source: Inco Alloys International Inc.

We have investigated the influence of the modes of adaptive pulse-arc welding and surfacing on the structure and physical-mechanical properties of welded joints of steel 09Mn2Si and the surfaced composition of this steel coated with a modified powder material of chromium carbide with the submicrocrystalline structure. It is shown that the pulsed mode of welding and surfacing can improve the homogeneity of the structure of the welded joint of steel and a surfaced coating and reduce the grain size of metals in both of them. Structural changes lead to an increase in ductility and toughness of the weld metal.
