Few switching transitions in high power and medium voltage application of Power converters are desirable. The selective harmonics elimination (SHE) pulse width modulation offers a better quality waveform with lower switching transitions and hence lower switching losses. The SHE is a pre-programmed modulation technique where certain amounts of lower order harmonics are removed and fundamental voltage is controlled. After Fourier analysis of output waveform, a set of nonlinear transcendental equations is obtained which exhibits, multiple, unique or no solution in different range of modulation index (MI). In this paper, an iterative method based on the Jacobian estimate is proposed to solve a highly non-linear set of SHE equations. The proposed technique is easy in implementation and can solve a large number of such equations as computation of the Jacobian matrix in the subsequent iteration is estimated from the previous values. Moreover, the proposed method also removes the singularity problem, especially for large SHE equations. High accuracy in the initial guess is also not essential for this method and can converge to the solution with any random initial guess. The computational and simulation results are given to validate the concept. The hardware result is provided to confirm the computational and simulation results.

Penetration of multilevel inverters (MLI) in to high power and medium voltage application has been increasing because of its advantages. The conventional two levels inverter has high harmonic distortion which gives poor power quality. Lot of topologies has been developed to overcome the drawbacks of a two level inverter. These topologies include more number of switching devices which increases the design complexity and cost. The optimum design of inverter requires less number of switches with better quality in waveform. In this paper, a symmetrical five level and seven levels inverter configuration with simplified pulse width modulation technique is proposed. This proposed inverter requires less switches, less protection circuits along with low cost and size. The analysis of the inverter circuits is done by using Matlab/Simulink software. The synthesized staircase wave form is shown and total harmonic distortion (THD) is also measured.

On January, 2017 there had been fault trip at PMT 150/20 kV transformer in Jatirangon substation. For fault detection, that rele differential phase T and REF 20 kV have worked to detect this fault. The resulted impact of this fault is Power outage in feeder a 1350 A, 35 MW and 5 Mvar. The cause of this fault is the occurrence of breakdown on ground cables 20kV T-phase-core 1. This results in a short circuit to the ground so that the differential protection relay and REF 20kV work because the relay detects a fault in the ptotection zone. The result of this research is the design of an early detection monitoring tool. This tool is used to determine the amount of leakage current on the ground cable in order to minimize the occurrence of interference that causes the occurrence of electrical power outage. The result of the leakage current monitor on the ground phase cable T obtained a current of 0.6A with temperature 35 °C. With thermal failure calculation method for leakage current obtained result of 0,56180A with temperature 35 °C. Comparison of the calculation with the measurement of leakage current on the ground cable T phase is obtained at 6.36%.
