Methoxyl-capped MQ silicone resin (MMQ) was first synthesized by the hydrosilylation of vinyl-containing MQ silicone resin and trimethoxysilane and then used in condensed room-temperature vulcanized (RTV) silicone rubber as a self-reinforced cross-linker. Results show that modified silicone rubber exhibits good light transmission. Compared with unmodified silicone rubber, the hardness, tensile strength and elongation of MMQ at the break are increased by 26.4 A, 2.68 MPa and 65.1%, respectively. In addition, the characteristic temperature of 10% mass loss is delayed from 353.5 °C to 477.1 °C, the temperature at maximum degradation rate is also delayed from 408.9 °C to 528.4 °C and the residual mass left at 800 °C is increased from 1.2% to 27.7%. These improved properties are assigned to the synergistic effect of the rigid structure of MMQ, the formation of a dense cross-linking structure in polymers and the uniform distribution of MMQ cross-linking agent in RTV silicone rubber.

In this article we report the preparation of a graphene/room temperature vulcanized (RTV) silicone rubber composite. Both the morphology and the properties of the composite were investigated in detail. SEM study shows that the composite has a microphase-separated structure. PDMS is the continuous phase, and the randomly distributed graphene nanosheets and a few aggregates are the dispersed phase. However, DSC curves of the composites have only one glass transition temperature (Tg). With the increases of the graphene content, Tg increases and Tm decreases. Mechanical properties tests show that the addition of graphene has a significant reinforcement effect on silicone rubber. The tensile strength is 0.37MPa with graphene mass fraction at 1.0%, which increases 76% compared with that of pure silicone rubber parallel sample.

The Super-hydrophobic surface can be obtained easily by pollution accumulation on room temperature vulcanized (RTV) silicone rubber coating surface. The photos taken by digital camera show that the amount of pollution on the RTV coating surface was increased with time, and after one year, the RTV coating surface nearly could hardly be seen. The water state contact angle (CA) measurement, which was investigated by the static contact angle instrument, reveals that the CA value of RTV coating surface is increased with increasing the pollution accumulation, and in suitable amount of pollution accumulation, the super-hydrophobic surface (water contact angle of 152o and roll-off angle smaller than 5 o) was obtained. The scanning electric microscope (SEM) of RTV coating with different pollution accumulation was investigated. It shows that the continuous micro-nanobinary structure can be formed with enough dust particles on the RTV surface. The mechanism of the effect of pollution accumulation on the wetting property was analyzed, the migration of hydrophobic molecular in RTV coating onto the pollution surface and the formation of micro-nanobinary structure on the RTV coating surface have synergistic effect on the super-hydrophobic surface formation caused by the pollution accumulation.
