A coarse and fine combined fast search and auto-focusing algorithm was suggested in this paper. This method can automatically search and find the focal plane by evaluating the image definition. The Krisch operator based edge energy function was used as the big-step coarse focusing, and then the wavelet transform based image definition evaluation function, which is sensitivity to the variation in image definition, was used to realize the small-step fine focusing in a narrow range. The un-uniform sampling function of the focusing area selection used in this method greatly reduces the workload and the required time for the data processing. The experimental results indicate that this algorithm can satisfy the requirement of the optical measure equipment for the image focusing.

Solar energy reaching Earth can be used as promising renewable energy to overcome the challenges of steam generation processes. Solar concentrators suffer from fine adjustment of solar radiation concentration and high investment cost. Therefore, multi-configuration receivers named the cylindrical cavity receiver, helical receiver, and the absorber-evaporator-tank have been manufactured from the coiled copper tube and brass plates, respectively. Then, they are tested and compared to improve the performance of steam generators. The performance of the absorber-evaporator-tank receiver has been compared with the cylindrical cavity receiver and helical receiver for a period from 10 am to 12 pm. The present investigation shows that the boiling point of water increasing when the pressure of generated steam increases particularly inside the coiled tube, which affects the dryness fraction of the generated steam. The present results show that the efficiency of the absorber-evaporator-tank is greater than the cylindrical cavity and helical receivers for the tested period. It is found that the thermal efficiency for the absorber-evaporator-tank doubles at noon, which indicates an effective solar receiver for generating steam.

This paper presents the modeling of a flexure-based precisionpositioning system for micro-positioning uses. The positioningsystem is featured with monolithic architecture, flexure-basedjoints and ultra fine adjustment screws. Its workspace has beenevaluated via analytical approaches. Reduction mechanism isoptimally designed. The mathematical model of the positioningsystem has been derived, which is verified by resorting to finiteelement analysis (FEA). The established analytical and (FEA)models are helpful for a reliable architecture optimization andperformance improvement of the positioning system. Santrauka Straipsnyje pristatomas didelio tikslumo centravimo ir niveliavimo padėties nustatymo sistemos su besideformuojančiais mechanizmais kūrimas ir modeliavimas. Padėties nustatymo sistema optimizuota Solidworks Simulation programiniu paketu. Centravimo platformų poslinkiams apskaičiuoti sudarytas matematinis modelis, kurio patikimumas buvo patikrintas taikant baigtinių elementų metodą. Sudaryto matematinio modelio ir rezultatų, gautų pritaikius baigtinių elementų metodą, skirtumai buvo mažesni nei 10 %. Pasiūlyta modeliavimo metodika gali būti taikoma kuriant padėties nustatymo sistemas su besideformuojančiais mechanizmais.

Mutants of the NAD-ME plant have been created using sodium azide. These contain reduced activities of PEP carboxylase ranging from 5 to 100% of wild-type. Those with greater than 50% of the wild-type PEPC content showed a lower maximum rate of photosynthesis and reduced carboxylation efficiency compared to the wild-type plants. The PEPC from these heterozygotes was less sensitive to malate inhibition than the PEPC of the wild-type plants and also had an increased phosphorylation state. Mutants containing 45 and 49% of wild-type PEPC exhibited a greater Amax than was observed for the 55, 66 and 70% mutants. We postulate that there is a compensatory mechanism that activates PEPC when the PEPC protein is less than 55% of the wild-type. Control coefficients were measured for PEP carboxylase from wild-type and heterozygous (55%) plants. Results suggest that activation of PEPC by phosphorylation and metabolites may be more an ‘on-off’ switch than a means of fine adjustment of PEPC activity in response to varying factors such as PEPC content, CO2 or temperature changes.
