Assessment of the stability of natural and artificial rock slopes is an important topic in the rock mechanics sciences. One of the most widely used methods for this purpose is the classification of the slope rock mass. In the recent decades, several rock slope classification systems are presented by many researchers. Each one of these rock mass classification systems uses different parameters and rating systems. These differences are due to the diversity of affecting parameters and the degree of influence on the rock slope stability. Another important point in rock slope stability is appraisal hazard and risk analysis. In the risk analysis, the degree of danger of rock slope instability is determined. The Lashotor pass is located in the Shiraz-Isfahan highway in Iran. Field surveys indicate that there are high potentialities of instability in the road cut slopes of the Lashotor pass. In the current paper, the stability of the rock slopes in the Lashotor pass is studied comprehensively with different classification methods. For risk analyses, we estimated dangerous area by use of the RocFall software. Furthermore, the dangers of falling rocks for the vehicles passing the Lashotor pass are estimated according to rockfall hazard rating system.

This paper seeks to investigate possible links between Cambridge examination results in the General Certificate of Education "O" and "A" level examinations over the years, and the annual Jamaican graduate output from the University of the West Indies. Although all faculties are considered, the main interest lies in numbers of graduates from the faculties of Natural Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine, linked with passes gained in science subjects at both "O" and "A" level GCE examinations.

Smeathman dies in London from a ‘putrid fever’ in July 1786. The Committee for the Black Poor sully his posthumous reputation, possibly because of his support for a mixed-race constitution in Sierra Leone. They fail to see that Smeathman’s scheme for commercial agriculture, powered by the labour of redeemed slaves, presented a small step forward in recasting the relationship between forced labour and empire. Smeathman’s essay on the West African termite has many afterlives, especially in terms of its engravings, but the big book on Africa and the West Indies—his ‘Voyages and Travels’—is never published.

Dynamic compaction is a widely used method for subgrade treatment due to its merit. This article presented example of dynamic compaction test in a liquid foundation project and investigated the relationship between settlement, ground heave and drop counts, the relationship between horizontal displacement and depth of soil, the relationship between drop counts, depth, horizontal displacement and pore water pressure, and the relation curve of pore water pressure and time during single point impact test. According to the conclusion before and after the testing, some appropriate engineering parameters were obtained and some advices were put forward.
