This paper presents a methodology toward designing, analyzing, and optimizing piezoelectric interdigitated microactuators using multiphysics finite element analysis. The models used in this paper were based on a circularly interdigitated design that takes advantage of primarily the d33 electromechanical piezoelectric constant coefficient. Because of the symmetric nature of the devices, a small number of 2D axisymmetric parametric models were developed to characterize the behavior of the diaphragms. The parametric models offered a large range of possible results from a very small number of models. The variations in the design parameters and their effects on deflection were captured using these models. The models also showed that several of the design parameters were naturally coupled. Discrete models were then used to capture the variations in the key design parameters during fabrication. The numerical models correlate well to the maximum deflection of the experimental devices.

The objective of the paper is the parametrization and the finite element analysis of mechanical properties of a through dovetail joint made with the use of a specific procedure by a 3-axis CNC machine. This corner joint was used for the simulation of the bending load of the joint in the angle plane – by compression, i.e. by pressing the joint together. The deformation fields, the stress distribution, the stiffness and the bending moment of the joints were evaluated. The finite element system ANSYS was used to create two parametric numerical models of the joint. The first one represents an ideally stiff joint – both joint parts have been glued together. The second model includes the contact between the joined parts. This numerical model was used to monitor the response of the joint stiffness to the change of the static friction coefficient. The results of both models were compared both with each other and with similar analyses conducted within the research into ready-to-assemble furniture joints. The results can be employed in the designing of more complex furniture products with higher demands concerning stiffness characteristics, such as furniture for sitting. However, this assumption depends on the correction of the created parametric models by experimental testing.

In the conventional analysis and design of steel structures, beam-to-column connections are generally assumed as entirely rigid or perfectly pinned. This assumption simplifies analysis and design steps and preferred extensively in structural engineering practice. However, experimental studies conducted in recent years have revealed that handling some of the beam-to-column connections as entirely rigid or perfectly pinned does not give realistic results. In fact, most of the connections used in current practice have some certain amount of stiffness which fall between the extreme cases of entirely rigid and perfectly pinned. In order to model the beam-to-column connections properly, several researchers have proposed various mathematical models based on experimental results. In these models, moment rotation relations of beam-to-column connections are defined according to the type of connection. In this study, moment-rotation behaviors of beam-to-column connections formed by flush end-plate are investigated using finite element analysis and a well-known practical mathematical model. Moreover, numerical analysis outcomes were compared with the test results of a reference study from the literature. This paper showed the importance of structural design parameters in determining moment-rotation relationship of flush end-plate type of beam-to-column connections and evaluated the efficiency of the practical numerical models.

According to uncertainty of the design parameters for large span truss of installing wave-maker, in order to avoid the waste of materials, the truss is analyzed based on the finite element analysis software ANSYS to find out its weaknesses and various parts of the deformation. On the premise of ensuring the intensity and stiffness, the weight of the truss is reduced by adjusting its sizes and selecting different profiles, so as to achieve the optimization of the truss of installing wave-maker.

Several studies have been conducted to prevent neck injury in rear-end collision. The headrest of the seat which suppresses the relative motion of the head and the torso can suppress the extension of the head, thereby alleviating the injury. The active headrest has a mechanism that supports the head by deploying the headrest at the rear-end collision. The spring remains compressed or twisted until a collision signal is generated and the headrest is deployed after the collision signal. Depending on the shape and deployment structure of the spring, a spring design with a high resilience that is acceptable to the headrest is required. In this paper, design parameter of spiral spring suitable for the structure of the developed headrest is selected, prototypes are fabricated, and development parameters such as development time and development distance are checked and optimal design parameters of the spiral spring are derived. The feasibility of the headrest with the designed spiral spring was verified by the finite element analysis.

In the condition of alternating impact ,the nut-supports subassembly is analyzed according to uncertainty of design parameters. Firstly, a three-dimensional (3-D) finite element (FE) model of the nut-supports subassembly is built and is meshed, and the constraints and loads are imposed.Secondly, the model of nut-supports was assembled using the software ANSYS to understand the stress distribution and various parts of the deformation of the nut-supports and its weak links in the harmonic forces. Finally, socket head cap screw has not enough pre-load in the condition of alternating impact and will be simplified. It is analyzed and checked whether it is cut or not; which provides the reference data for design and optimization of the wave maker.
