A new methodology based on least-squares approach has been developed to estimate the temperature field from an interferogram recorded using a Differential interferometer (DI). The interferograms are digitally evaluated using two dimensional Fourier transforms to retrieve the temperature gradient field. Temperature field is constructed by fitting a cubic spline to the first derivatives data. The methodology has been applied to both experimental and synthetic interferograms. Both convective heat flux and temperature field were predicted accurately. The role of image noise and errors in the temperature measurements on the temperature field estimation have been studied with the aid of synthetic interferograms.

According to the two-dimensional thermal theory, the temperature distribution in a simply supported laminated beam is studied. Firstly, the temperature distribution in a single-layer simply supported beam is analytically derived. Then, based on the continuity condition of the temperature and heat flux between the connected layers, the temperature and heat flux relations between the lowest layer and the top layer of the beam are recurrently obtained. Finally, the unknown coefficients are determined by the upper and lower surface conditions of the laminated beam. The temperature in the beam is given by substituting the unknown coefficients back to the recurrent formulae.

Purpose The aim of this works is to characterize the role of Cattaneo?Christov heat flux in two-dimensional flows of second-grade and Walter’s liquid B fluid models. Design/methodology/approach In this study similarity transformations have been used to transform the system into ordinary ones. Numerical and analytical solutions are computed through homotopic algorithm and shooting technique. Findings The numerical values of temperature gradient are tabulated, and the temperature gradient reduces rapidly with enhancing values of the Darcy parameter, but this reduction is very slow for Forchheimer parameter. Originality/value No such analyses have been reported in the literature.
