Parametric Study of Ground Source Heat Pump System for Hot and Humid Climate

The U-tube sizes and varied thermal conductivity with different grout materials are studied based on the benchmark residential building in Hot-humid Pensacola, Florida. In this study, the benchmark building is metered and the data is used to validate the simulation model. And a list of comparative simulation cases with varied parameter value are simulated to study the importance of pipe size and grout to the ground source heat pump energy consumption. The simulation software TRNSYS [1] is employed to fulfill this task. The results show the preliminary energy saving based on varied parameters. Future work needs to be conducted for the cost analysis, include the installation cost from contractor and materials cost.

A ground source heat pump system of combined office and residential buildings in hot summer and warm winter region is introduced. The system performance is studied through the experiment, and the performance of underground heat balance is analyzed by TRNSYS. The results show the superiority and applicability of the ground source heat pump system.

Baoji “Shigu • Tian Xi Tai”, “Shigu • Sun City” ground source heat pump energy station system is an important energy supply project in Shigu. In this paper, we systematically introduce the design of green building and ground-source heat pump system, points of construction process, pre-cooling station technology, EMC economic model in detail. In addition, the ground source heat pump system of the project was tested in the field to analyze and evaluate the running performance of the system. We hope our research can provide some reference and help to the practitioners.

In this paper, a hotel with hybrid geothermal heat pump system (HyGSHP) in the Pensacola is selected and simulated by the transient simulation software package TRNSYS [1]. To verify the simulation results, the validations are conducted by using the monthly average entering water temperature, monthly facility consumption data, and etc. Three types of HVAC systems are compared based on the same building model and HVAC system capacity. The results are presented to show the advantages and disadvantages of HyGSHP compared with the other two systems in terms of energy consumptions, life cycle cost analysis.

This paper discusses the research and the state-of-art practices on ground source heat pump systems (GSHP) in China. It introduces the Chinese patents on GSHP. The GSHP development policies of China, including incentive mechanism, relevant codes and regulations, are also introduced. In addition, this paper discusses and summarizes the shortages and imperfects of the current research of the GSHP system and gives some recommendations for future work. At last, the authors give some advice for the development of ground source heat pump. For more reliable statistics on geothermal energy use, the obligation to supply an installation report to the relevant authority should also be imposed on the rural buildings besides urban buildings. GSHP systems are suitable for heating and cooling of buildings and so could play a significant role in reducing CO2 emissions.

This thesis presents a study for examining the viability of hybrid ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems that use solar thermal collectors as the supplemental component in heating dominated buildings. Loads for an actual house in the City of Milton near Toronto were estimated. TRNSYS, a system simulation software tool, was used to model the yearly performance of conventional GSHP as well as the proposed hybrid GSHP system. The house was equipped with a data monitoring system which was installed to read and record fluid flow, temperature and electricity consumption in different components of the system. The actual yearly data collected from the site was examined against the simulation results. In addition, a sensitivity analysis was carried out to determine the relationship between the solar collector area and the ground loop heat exchanger (GHX) length. It was shown that the ratio of GHX length reduction to solar panel area of 4.7 m/m This study demonstrates that a hybrid GSHP system, combined with solar thermal collectors, is a feasible choice for space conditioning for heating dominated houses. It was shown that the solar thermal energy storage in the ground could reduce a large amount of ground loop heat exchanger length. Combining three solar thermal collectors with a total area of 6.81m
