Two new species of eriophyid mites (Trombidiformes: Eriophyoidea) associated with Clematis orientalis (Ranunculaceae) from East Iran

During the field study of eriophyoid mites from Clematis orientalis L. (Ranunculaceae) in semi-arid and arid environment in East Iran (Birjand, South Khorasan, Iran, from 2016 to 2017), two new eriophyid mite species (Trombidiformes: Eriophyidae) were collected. They are Epitrimerus birjandica sp. nov. and Aculus clemachinensis sp. nov.; they are illustrated and described herein. Both new species seemed to be vagrants on the green parts. The checklist of eriophyid mites associated with Ranunculaceae throughout the world was provided.

During the field study of eriophyoid mites associated with Lamiaceae species in semi-arid and arid environment in East Iran (Birjand, South Khorasan, Iran, summer 2017), two new eriophyid mite species (Trombidiformes: Eriophyidae) were discovered. They are Aceria pocrii sp. nov. on Teucrium polium L. and Cecidophyes punctinea sp. nov. on Rosmarinus officinalis L., and are illustrated and described herein. Both new species seemed to be vagrants on leaves and flowers, and they were not associated to any particular symptom.

During the field study of eriophyoid mites from autochthonous plants in semi-arid and arid environment in East Iran (Birjand, South Khorasan, from 2016 to 2017), four new Aceria species (Trombidiformes: Eriophyoidea: Eriophyidae) were collected. They are Aceria halothamni sp. nov. on Halothamnus auriculus (Moq.) Botsch. (Amaranthaceae), Aceria acanthophylli sp. nov. on Acanthophyllum sordidum Bunge ex Boiss. (Caryophyllaceae), Aceria samoli sp. nov. on Samolus valerandi L. (Primulaceae), Aceria aeluropi sp. nov. on Aeluropus littoralis (Gouan) Parl. (Poaceae). In addition, Aceria atriplicis Wilson & Oldfield, 1966 was also found on Atriplex leucoclada Boiss. (Amaranthaceae), which is a new record for Iran. All these species are illustrated and described herein. They appear to be vagrants and no symptom was observed on their infested plants.

During field surveys of eriophyid mites associated with autochthonous plants species in semi-arid and arid environments in East Iran (Birjand, South Khorasan, Iran, summer 2016 and 2017), seven new eriophyid mite species (Acari: Eriophyidae) were discovered. They are Aceria astratorae sp. nov. on Astragalus pinetorum Boiss. (Leguminosae), Aceria astracanthae sp. nov. on Astracantha echidna (Bunge) Podlech (Leguminosae), Aceria furgae sp. nov. on Ephedra major Host (Ephedraceae), Aceria runicae sp. nov. on Rubia caramanica Bornm. (Rubiaceae), Aculus birsutum sp. nov. on Epilobium hirsutum L. (Onagraceae), Phyllocoptes birreae sp. nov. on Centaurea virgata Lam. (Compositae), and Neophytoptus semenovis sp. nov. on Semenovia suffruticosa (Freyn & Bornm.) Manden (Apiaceae), which are illustrated and described herein. All seven new species appear to be vagrants on green parts of their host plants with no particular symptom.

Eriophyoid mites infesting spurges (Euphorbiaceae) were surveyed in Kandovan and Govgan, southwest of East Azerbai-jan Province in Iran, during 2010 and 2011. Two new species are described and illustrated: Aculops seguieranae n. sp.from Euphorbia seguierana Necker and Euphorbia cheiradenia Boiss. et Hohen, and Aceria cheiradeniae n. sp. from E. cheiradenia. No damage symptoms were observed.

(Compositae) from semi-arid and arid environment in East Iran (Birjand, South Khorasan, Iran 2016-2017), three new Aceria spp. (Acari: Trombidiformes: Eriophyidae) were collected. They are Aceria gallartae sp. nov. on Artemisia sieberi Besser, Aceria khaniensis sp. nov. on A. tournefortiana Rchb., and Aceria alghoorii sp. nov. on A. scoparia Waldst. & Kitam., which are illustrated and described herein.

Two new mite species, Erythraeus (Erythraeus) hubeiensis sp. nov. and E. (Zaracarus) hainanensis sp. nov., are described and illustrated based on larvae parasitizing insects (Hemiptera) in Hubei and Hainan Provinces, China. An updated key to larval species of the genus Erythraeus of the world is presented.

Turkish populations of eriophyid mites infesting Elaeagnaceae were examined. Two new species are described and illustrated: Anthocoptes cellatus n. sp. was collected on Hippophae rhamnoides L. (seaberry), and Aceria angustifoliae n. sp. was found on Elaeagnus angustifolia L. (Russian olive). A remark on mite mounting was made.

Two new species and an additional record of eriophyid mites from semi-arid and arid environments in East Iran are reported. Aculops ammodendris sp. nov. from Ammodendron persicum Bunge ex Boiss. (Leguminosae) and Aceria launaeae sp. nov. from Launaea acanthodes (Boiss.) Kuntze (Asteraceae) are described and illustrated. No symptoms were observed on the infested host plants. These two new species are the first eriophyid mites on plant species within the genera Ammodendron and Launaea. Geographical distribution of Aceria angustifoliae Denizhan, Monfreda, de Lillo & Çobanoglu, 2008, extended also into the currently studied Iranian area in addition to a previous record from Turkey and Northern Khorasan.
