The objective of this work is to assess patient organ doses, effective doses and entrance surface doses in conventional diagnostic radiology procedures for standard adult patient. The survey consists of measurements of doses delivered to 239 patients in nine types of X-ray examinations. Three types of data were collected: X-ray machine data, patient data, and output measurements. Entrance surface dose was assessed based on the survey data and subsequently, using conversion coefficients, the organ doses and effective doses were calculated. Values of the entrance surface dose and the effective dose were estimated to be 0.4 to 5.8 mGy and 0.03 to 3.00 mSv for different examinations. Derived doses were compared with recommended general diagnostic reference levels. The impact of examination parameters on dose values was discussed. Except for posterior-anterior chest examination, all estimated doses are lower than stated reference levels. Survey data are aimed at helping development of national quality control and radiation protection programmed for medical exposures.

A recent publication on single crystals of two-dimensional, layered organic–inorganic (BA)2CsAgBiBr7 double perovskite (BA+ = ) suggested the great potential of this semiconductor material in the detection of X-ray radiation. Our powder XRD measurement confirms the crystallinity and purity of all samples that crystallise in the monoclinic space group , while the single crystal XRD measurements reveal the dominant {001} lattice planes. The structure–property relationship is reflected in the lower resistivity values determined from the van der Pauw measurements (1.65–9.16 × 1010 Ωcm) compared to those determined from the IV measurements (4.19 × 1011–2.67 × 1012 Ωcm). The density of trap states and charge-carrier mobilities, which are determined from the IV measurements, are 1.12–1.76 × 1011 cm–3 and 10−5–10−4 cm2V–1s–1, respectively. The X-ray photoresponse measurements indicate that the (BA)2CsAgBiBr7 samples synthesised in this study satisfy the requirements for radiation sensors. Further advances in crystal growth are required to reduce the density of defects and improve the performance of single crystals.

Abstract About 26 000 patients are treated per year with radiotherapy for non-malignant diseases in the Czech Republic. Approximately 75% of them are treated on X-ray therapy units and most of these patients undergo radiotherapy of heel spurs. The evaluation of radiation exposure of these patients was based on measured organ doses and on data from clinical practice. Collective effective doses for particular diagnoses were calculated in order to compare doses resulting from different diagnoses treated on X-ray therapy units. The collective effective dose from radiotherapy of heel spurs in the Czech Republic in 2013 was evaluated to 77 manSv. It represents 25.6% of the total collective effective dose for all diagnoses of radiotherapy for non-malignant diseases treated on X-ray therapy units.

Abstract The radiation doses absorbed by major organs of males and females were studied from three types of dental X-ray devices. The absorbed doses from cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), panoramic and intraoral X-ray machines were in the range of 0.23–1314.85 μGy, and were observed to be high in organs and tissues located in or adjacent to the irradiated area, there were discrepancies in organ doses between male and female. Thyroid, salivary gland, eye lens and brain were the organs that received higher absorbed doses. The organ absorbed doses were considerably lower than the diagnostic reference level for dental radiography in China. The calculated effective radiation doses for males and females were 56.63, 8.15, 2.56 μSv and 55.18, 8.99, 2.39 μSv, respectively, when using CBCT, the panoramic X-ray machine and intraoral X-ray machine. The effective radiation dose caused by CBCT was much higher than those of panoramic and intraoral X-ray machines.
