QUESC: An Instrument for Assessing the Service Quality of Sport Centers in Korea

This research study developed an instrument that would serve as an important part of a quality improvement program for sport centers. The developed instrument may be used on an ongoing basis to identify the kinds of services customers want, the level of service they desire, and specific areas requiring managerial attention. An analysis of survey data from sport center users in Korea shows 33 important customer needs that can be classified into 11 distinct dimensions. Using the QUESC instrument, this study found that the performance of Korean sport centers is lagging behind user expectations. Although data was obtained from Korean sport centers, the approach of this Study and most of its findings may be applied to the North American sport center market as well.

Safe and reliable healthcare depends on access to health information that is accurate, valid, reliable, timely, relevant, legible and complete. National data collections are repositories of health and social care data and play a crucial role in healthcare planning and clinical decision-making. We describe the development of an evidence-informed multi-method quality improvement program aimed to improve the quality of health and social care data in Ireland. Specific components involved: development of guidance to support implementation of health information standards; review program to assess compliance with standards; and educating health information stakeholders about health data and information quality. Observations from implementation of the program indicate enhanced health information stakeholder awareness of, and increased adoption of information management standards. The methodology used in the review program has proved to be a robust approach to identify areas of good practice and opportunities for improvement in information management practices. There has been positive adoption of the program among organisations reviewed and acceptance of the proposed recommendations. Early indications are that this multi-method approach will drive improvements in information management practices, leading to an improvement in health and social care data quality in Ireland. Aspects of this approach may be adapted to meet the needs of other countries.

The progress of education of a school as an educational institution is influenced by the role of the principal as an education manager. It is very much determined by the principal's ability to manage human resources from the planning to evaluation aspects. This study aims to reveal the management of school principals to improve the performance of teachers in Singkawang State High School 3 with a focus on 1) The description of the planning of quality improvement programs for teacher performance by the headmaster of State High School 3 Singkawang, 2) The implementation of programs to improve the quality of teacher performance by principals in State High Schools 3 Singkawang, 3) Program evaluation activities to improve the quality of teacher performance carried out by school principals in SMA 3 Singkawang. The research method used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Data collected by in-depth interviews, participant observation, documentation, and analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, conclusions or verification. Data reliability testing is done by extending the period of observation, and triangulation and member checking. The results of the study conclude 1) planning of quality improvement programs for teacher performance is carried out with reference to the vision and mission and school work plans. 2) implementation of improving the quality of teacher performance is carried out by holding a program of continuous professional development in the form of technical guidance (BIMTEK) learning development activities, In House Training (IHT) and workshops aimed at improving teacher competence and quality of learning, 3) Evaluation of teacher performance is carried out by carrying out activities academic supervision of teachers and managerial supervision of administration. Based on the results of the study suggested the following things: 1) planning for improving the quality of teacher performance, especially in school work plans need to be improved in a continuous professional improvement program. 2) The form of carrying out continuous professional improvement activities should be adjusted to what is required by the teacher. 3) Evaluation activities should be carried out consistently to improve teacher quality.

The Institute of Medicine 1999 publication, To Err is Human, focused attention on preventable provider errors in surgery, and prompted numerous new national initiatives to improve patient safety. It is uncertain whether these initiatives have actually improved patient safety, mainly because of the lack of a quantitative metric for the assessment of patient safety in surgery. A 15-year experience with the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program, which originated in the Veteran's Administration in 1991 and was recently made available to the private sector, prompts the surgical community to place patient safety in surgery within a much larger conceptual framework than that of the Institute of Medicine report, and provides a quantitative metric for the assessment of patient safety initiatives. This conceptual framework defines patient safety in surgery as safety from all adverse outcomes (not only preventable errors and sentinel events); regards safety as an integral part of quality of surgical care; recognizes that adverse outcomes, and hence patient safety, are primarily determined by quality of systems of care; and uses comparative risk-adjusted outcome data as a metric for the identification of system problems and for the assessment and improvement of patient safety from adverse outcomes.

BackgroundNarrative data about the patient experience of surgery can help healthcare professionals and administrators better understand the needs of patients and their families as well as provide a foundation for improvement of procedures, processes and services. However, units often lack a methodological framework to analyse these data empirically and derive key areas for improvement. The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP) is aimed at improving the quality of surgical care by collecting patient data and reporting risk-adjusted surgical outcomes for each participant hospital in the programme. Though qualitative data about patient experience are captured as part of the NSQIP database, to date no framework or methodology has been proposed, or reported on, to analyse these data for the purposes of quality improvement. The goal of this study was to demonstrate the feasibility of using content analysis to empirically derive key areas for quality improvement from a sample of 3601 narrative comments about paediatric surgery from patients and families at British Columbia Children’s Hospital.Study designThematic content analysis conducted on a total of 3601 patient and family narratives received between 2011 and 2018.ResultsOverall satisfaction with care was high and experiences with healthcare providers at the hospital were positive. Areas for improvement were identified in the themes of health outcomes, communication and surgery timelines. Results informed follow-up interprofessional quality improvement initiatives.ConclusionsRecording and analysing patient experience data as part of validated quality improvement programmes such as ACS NSQIP can provide valuable and actionable information to improve quality of care.
