ABSTRACT Here, the coding-complete genome of a human rhinovirus (HRV) belonging to the HRV-A clade was determined from a pool containing nine nasopharyngeal secretion specimens from hospitalized neonates. PCR screening indicated that this HRV variant was present in a cohort of 45 hospitalized neonates, with a positivity rate of 11.1% (5/45 patients).

Here, we report the first nearly complete genome sequence of Alfalfa mosaic virus (AMV) obtained from a symptomatic field pea sample (Aus295) in Australia. Its genome RNA1 and RNA2 segments resembled those of the Argentinian isolate Manfredi, with 99.4% and 96.7% nucleotide (nt) identity, respectively; its RNA3 segment resembled that of Chinese isolate AMV-Gyn, with 99.6% nt identity.

ABSTRACT Here, we report the genome sequence of a divergent human rhinovirus C isolate identified from an infant with a severe community-acquired respiratory infection. RNA sequencing performed on an Illumina platform identified reads aligning to human rhinovirus species, which were de novo assembled to produce a coding-complete genome sequence.

A metagenomic study was performed on 498 female and 40 male Aedes albopictus mosquitos collected in August and September 2019 in Ticino, a region in southern Switzerland, to address the question regarding the risk of the local transmission of zoonotic viruses. A total of 13 viruses from seven different virus families and several unclassified viral taxa were identified. Reads of insect-specific flaviviruses were present in all pools, and a complete genome of aedes flavivirus was assembled and phylogenetically analysed. The most abundant virus was Wenzhou sobemo-like virus, assembled from 1.3 × 105 to 3.6 × 106 reads in each pool. In a pool of male mosquitos, a complete genome of aedes Iflavi-like virus was detected and phylogenetically analysed. Most importantly, genomes of human pathogenic viruses were not found. This is the first study to determine the virome of Ae. albopictus from Switzerland and forms a baseline for future longitudinal investigations concerning the potential role of Ae. albopictus as a vector of clinically relevant viruses.
