The partial Schiff base condensation reactions between 2,6-diacetylpyridine and 1,3-phenylenediamine in the presence of scandium(III), yttrium(III) and lanthanum(III) ions as template agents afford new mono- and dinuclear hexadentate complexes of podate type, depending on the molar ratio of starting materials used in the synthesis. They were characterized by IR, UV-VIS, 1H NMR, and mass spectral data as well as by thermogravimetric and elemental analyses.

AbstractNew 4,7-bis(arylamino)-2-tetra-O-acetyl-β-d-glucopyranosylimino-1,3,5,6-dithiadiazepines were synthesized via reaction of N-tetra-O-acetyl-β-d-glucopyranosyl isocyanodichloride with 1,6-diaryl-2,5-dithio-bis-ureas without using any catalyst. Thus, the synthesis of 7-membered heterocycles containing two sulfur and two nitrogen atoms through carbon-sulfur bond formation was explored. The chemical structures of these new compounds were elucidated by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectral, and elemental analyses.

The synthesis of a novel series of 6-((arylidene) amino)-2-oxo-1-((1-(2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl) ethylidene) amino)-4-phenyl-1,2-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarbonitriles 4a-o were synthesized and structures of compounds have been elucidated by IR,1H NMR,13C NMR and mass spectral data. Antimicrobial activity was measured against certain strains of bacteria and fungi by serial broth dilution. Evaluation of antimicrobial activity shown that the compounds (4g, 4j, 4k and 4o) were found to be most active against selected bacterial strains and compounds (4d, 4m and 4n) were found to be most active against selected fungal strains.

A series of new coordination complexes of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Hg(II), Mn(II), and Fe(III) with the Schiff base 3-chloro-N′-[(1E)-(2-hydroxy phenyl)methylene]-6-methoxy-1-benzothiophene-2-carbohydrazide (HL) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, electrical conductivity measurements, IR spectra,1H NMR, mass spectral data, electronic spectra, magnetic susceptibility, ESR spectra, TGA, and Powder XRD data. The Schiff base behaves as tridentate ONO donor ligand and forms the complexes of the type ML2(metal-ligand) stoichiometry for Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Mn(II) complexes and ML stoichiometry for Zn(II), Hg(II), and Fe(III) complexes. All the complexes are colored and nonelectrolytes. It is found that Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Mn(II) and Fe(III) complexes have exhibited octahedral geometry whereas Zn(II) and Hg(II) complexes exhibited tetrahedral geometry. The ligand and its metal complexes have been screened for their antibacterial activity againstE. coliandS. aureusand antifungal activity againstA. nigerandA. flavus.

In this study, two new Schiff base compounds derived from the condensation reaction ofL-glycine andL-tryptophan with 4-methylbenzal-dehyde have been synthesized. The Schiff base compounds were characterized by FT-IR, UV and1H NMR spectroscopy. Their effects on the activity of total (ACP), prostatic (PAP) and non prostatic (NPA) acid phosphatase enzymes were studied. The Schiff base derived fromL-glycine (A) demonstrated inhibition effect on the ACP and NPA activities and activation effect on PAP activity. The Schiff base derived fromL-tryptophan (B) demonstrated semi fixed inhibition effects on the ACP and NPA activities at high concentrations (5.5×10-2, 5.5×10-3and 5.5×10-4M) and activator effect at low concentration (5.5×10-5M) while it was exhibits as activator on PAP activity.

A series of palladium(II) halo complexes of the types [PdX 2 L 2 ].nH 2 O {n = 0, X = Cl, L = L 2 , L 4 and L 5 ; X = Br, L = L 2 ; n = 1, X = Cl, L = L 1 and L 3 } and Pd 2 X 4 L 3 [X = Br, L = L 1 , L 3 , L 4   and L 5 ] were prepared where L is 6-R-5,6- dihydrobenzoimidazo quinazoline (R-Diq; where R = ethyl: L 1 / n or i-propyl: L 2 , L 3 / n or i-butyl: L 4 , L 5 ) and characterized by elemental analyses, conductivity measurements, TGA, infrared, electronic, NMR and mass spectral techniques. Based    on these studies monomeric/dimeric structure with a square planar geometry around the metal ion was proposed for all the complexes. Some of the complexes were investigated for anti-microbial activity.
