In this competitive environment, organizations strive to satisfy their customer by providing best quality service at affordable and fair prices with a view to enhance their revenues. To achieve the objective of revenue maximization, organizations strive to identify the factors that help them in retaining their customers. Drawing from the signalling theory of marketing, the current study proposes a novel conceptual model representing the impact of service quality with food quality and price fairness on customer retention in restaurant sector of Pakistan. The paper underlines an important arena of knowledge for academicians as well as organizational scientists on the subject. On the basis of literature available on the variables understudy, the present study forwards eight research propositions worthy of urgent scholarly attention. The conceptualized model of the present article can also be viewed significant in unleashing further avenues for the restaurant management entities, policy makers and future researchers in the domain of managing in the service sector businesses.

This study examined the impact of employee empathy on customers’ advocacy directly and indirectly through customers’ loyalty. Moreover, the interacting effect of customers’ trust was verified between the association of customers’ loyalty and advocacy. The attributes of the proposed model were examined in the context of first line employee and patients’ interactions. A total of 220 responses were collected for analysis from the private hospitals of Peshawar. The model fitness was confirmed through confirmatory factor analysis and hypotheses were examined. Findings confirmed the positive and significant impact of employee empathy on customers’ advocacy. Further, the mediating effect was examined and found that loyalty partially mediates employee empathy and customers’ advocacy. Additionally, trust was found a significant moderator between the association of customer loyalty and advocacy. Furthermore, findings revealed that trust based loyalty significantly and positively mediates employee empathy and customers’ advocacy. Findings of the present study provide understanding for the service sector, particularly in healthcare, to enhance customers’ loyalty, advocacy, and trust through service employee’s empathic aptitude. Purpose – There are few studies that have studied the relationship between Transformational leadership (TL) and organisation commitment (OC), but there are very few studies on the service sector especially in the Indian context. This study aims to fill the gap in literature by empirically examining the impact of four dimensions of TL using Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) on the Affective Commitment (AC) of the employees, within the context of the service sector in Bengaluru. Design/methodology/approach – A total of two hypotheses were proposed for testing transformational leadership using Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) questionnaire, (Bass and Avolio, 1997) and five items of affective organization commitment developed by Allen and Meyer (1996) was used for affective commitment. The questionnaire was administered to 210 employees working in various industries in the service sector in Bengaluru to measure the impact of TL on the AC of the respondents. Findings – The analysis of the data collected shows that TL has a positive impact on the affective commitment of the employees. In particular, the results of an empirical investigation revealed that individualized influence and individual consideration by the transformational leader had a significant impact on the affective commitment level of the employees. The employees in the hospitality industry had a difference in opinion compared to IT, Banking & education sector employees on the intellectual stimulation by the leader and their affective commitment towards the organization. Originality/value – This paper contributes to the existing literature of leadership and OC by providing practical evidence leading to the improvement of information and the understanding of the relationship between TL and AC.

This paper seeks to answer whether the general patterns and drivers of the sectoral employment shifts depend on a country’s level of development. To accomplish this, we examined employment in Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Ukraine at the national level (1998-2018) using econometric analysis, and at the regional NUTS2 level (2009-2018) using shift-share analysis. We obtained evidence that the general trend is the service sector expansion. Using the ARDL approach and the Granger causality test, we identified long-run unidirectional causality running from income proxies to employment in services in all countries except Romania, where the opposite causality was found. We revealed that household income moderates the impact of urbanization on service sector growth in all countries except Poland. At the regional level, the change in the employment rate in services is explained by the national growth effect and slightly by the industry-mix effect if the active phase of structural changes is completed.

Abstract The paper assesses the impact of trade liberalization on the labour market by focusing on skill wage premium. The paper tests these effects by developing a monopolistic competition model with two factors of production characterized by their skill levels (skilled and unskilled labour). The paper finds that tariff’s level reductions cause a moderate increase in the wage gap. Thus, our analysis shows that a 10% decrease in tariffs is accompanied by a 16.1 % increase in the skill premium. Also, the same level of tariffs’ cut will on average increase the gender wage gap by 26.8%. The study implies that trade liberalization tends to benefit more workers in the skilled labour market compared to workers in the unskilled labour market.
