In this work, an admittance control scheme is proposed utilizing a highly robust prescribed performance position tracking controller for flexible joint robots which is designed at the operational space. The proposed control scheme achieves the desired impedance to the external contact force as well as superior position tracking in free motion without any robot model knowledge, as opposed to the torque based impedance controllers. Comparative simulation results on a three degrees-of-freedom (3DOF) flexible joint manipulator, illustrate the efficiency of the approach.

This study addresses the problem of adaptive controlling of both a nonredundant and a redundant robotic manipulator with state-dependent constraints. The task of the robot is to follow a prescribed geometric path given in the task space, by the end-effector. The aforementioned robot task has been solved on the basis of the Lyapunov stability theory, which is used to derive the control scheme. A new adaptive Jacobian controller is proposed in the paper for the path following of the robot, with both uncertain kinematics and dynamics. The numerical simulation results carried out for a planar redundant three-DOF (three degrees of freedom) manipulator whose end-effector follows a prescribed geometric path given in a two-dimensional (2D) task space, illustrate the trajectory performance of the proposed control scheme.

This paper proposes a novel nonlinear control scheme based on energy-shaping (ES) principle and state error port-controlled Hamiltonian (PCH) systems for unmanned surface vehicles (USV) system. The PCH model of three degrees of freedom for USV kinetics system is established. By the ES principle, interconnection assignment and damping injection method is applied to the speed and heading control of the closed-loop USV system to realize an overall stability of control mechanism. Simulation results show that the validity and stability of control algorithm can be satisfied with the performance in speed and heading tracking of which the high simplification and portability make it applicable to the various region.

AbstractThis study considers the tracking control problem of the nonstrict-feedback nonlinear system with unknown backlash-like hysteresis, and a finite-time adaptive fuzzy control scheme is developed to address this problem. More precisely, the fuzzy systems are employed to approximate the unknown nonlinearities, and the design difficulties caused by the nonlower triangular structure are also overcome by using the property of fuzzy systems. Besides, the effect of unknown hysteresis input is compensated by approximating an intermediate variable. With the aid of finite-time stability theory, the proposed control algorithm could guarantee that the tracking error converges to a smaller region. Finally, a simulation example is provided to further verify the above theoretical results.

In this paper, the control problem of a class I of underactuated mechanical systems (UMSs) is addressed. The considered class includes nonlinear UMSs with two degrees of freedom and one control input. Firstly, we propose the design of a robust integral of the sign of the error (RISE) control law, adequate for this special class. Based on a change of coordinates, the dynamics is transformed into a strict-feedback (SF) form. A Lyapunov-based technique is then employed to prove the asymptotic stability of the resulting closed-loop system. Numerical simulation results show the robustness and performance of the original RISE toward parametric uncertainties and disturbance rejection. A comparative study with a conventional sliding mode control reveals a significant robustness improvement with the proposed original RISE controller. However, in real-time experiments, the amplification of the measurement noise is a major problem. It has an impact on the behaviour of the motor and reduces the performance of the system. To deal with this issue, we propose to estimate the velocity using the robust Levant differentiator instead of the numerical derivative. Real-time experiments were performed on the testbed of the inertia wheel inverted pendulum to demonstrate the relevance of the proposed observer-based RISE control scheme. The obtained real-time experimental results and the obtained evaluation indices show clearly a better performance of the proposed observer-based RISE approach compared to the sliding mode and the original RISE controllers.
