SIMPLE AND FLEXIBLE SELF-REPRODUCING STRUCTURES IN ASYNCHRONOUS CELLULAR AUTOMATA AND THEIR DYNAMICS

Self-reproduction on asynchronous cellular automata (ACAs) has attracted wide attention due to the evident artifacts induced by synchronous updating. Asynchronous updating, which allows cells to undergo transitions independently at random times, might be more compatible with the natural processes occurring at micro-scale, but the dark side of the coin is the increment in the complexity of an ACA in order to accomplish stable self-reproduction. This paper proposes a novel model of self-timed cellular automata (STCAs), a special type of ACAs, where unsheathed loops are able to duplicate themselves reliably in parallel. The removal of sheath cannot only allow various loops with more flexible and compact structures to replicate themselves, but also reduce the number of cell states of the STCA as compared to the previous model adopting sheathed loops [Y. Takada, T. Isokawa, F. Peper and N. Matsui, Physica D227, 26 (2007)]. The lack of sheath, on the other hand, often tends to cause much more complicated interactions among loops, when all of them struggle independently to stretch out their constructing arms at the same time. In particular, such intense collisions may even cause the emergence of a mess of twisted constructing arms in the cellular space. By using a simple and natural method, our self-reproducing loops (SRLs) are able to retract their arms successively, thereby disentangling from the mess successfully.

In the light of recent developments in the theory of reversibility for asynchronous cellular automata, we attempt to explore the dynamics of recurrent rules under fully asynchronous updating scheme. Depending on the reachability of the configurations for a communication class during the evolution of the system, we classify the recurrent rules into two classes — partially exposed recurrent system and fully exposed recurrent system.

Równocześnie jednak przestrzeń, w której tak wyraziście manifestują się liczne problemy społeczne, na czele z alkoholizmem oraz bezrobociem, stanowi część dyskursów dotyczących marginalizacji, nietolerancji, alienacji i społecznej stygmatyzacji. Filmowy i komiksowy pejzaż „rezu” stanowi krzywe zwierciadło oficjalnej amerykańskiej kultury, symbolizowanej przez Mount Rushmore, w której cieniu kryje się rezerwat plemienia Lakota w Pine Ridge. Analizując wybrane przykłady filmowe oraz komiksowe, autorka ukazuje różne aspekty symboliki i kulturowych kontekstów „rezu”. Z jednej strony – w filmach takich jak Skins Chrisa Eyre’a lub Za głosem serca Michaela Apteda oraz w komiksowej serii Skalp Jasona Aarona i R.M. Guéry – mamy do czynienia z wizją rezerwatu stanowiącego krajobraz nieomalże apokaliptyczny, utożsamiający ciemną stronę Ameryki; z drugiej – w realizacjach pokroju Sygnałów dymnych Eyre’a czy Piętna przodków Michaela Linna – rezerwat jawi się jako przestrzeń mityczna, obszar kontaktu ze wcześniejszymi pokoleniami.Rez territory. Symbols and cultural contexts of Indian reservation landscape in contemporary Northern American cinema and comic booksPoor houses, trailers scattered in wilderness, inhabited by degenerated people, dusty roads full of old cars – the landscape of Indian reservation in contemporary audiovisual culture is marked with symptoms of degradation. In the same time, places where social problems – especially alcoholism and unemployment – have been so vividly manifested, become a part of various discourses of marginalization, intolerance, alienation and social stigmatization. “Rez’s” landscape in film and comic books becomes a dark mirror for the official American culture symbolized by Mount Rushmore, in whose shadow lies the Lakota Pine Ridge reservation. In her analysis of selected films and comic books, theauthor shows different aspects of rez’s symbols and cultural contexts. In such films as Chris Eyre’s Skins or Michael Apted’s Thunderheart and Jason Aaron and R.M. Guéra’s comic book series Scalped, Indian reservation is shown almost as an apocalyptic territory and – in the same time – as a dark side of America. On the other hand, in Eyre’s Smoke Signals or Michael Linn’s Imprint, rez is a mythic place of cross-generation encounters.

Neural network methods have been trained to satisfactorily learn user/product representations from textual reviews. A representation can be considered as a multiaspect attention weight vector. However, in several existing methods, it is assumed that the user representation remains unchanged even when the user interacts with products having diverse characteristics, which leads to inaccurate recommendations. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a novel model to capture the varying attention of a user for different products by using a multilayer attention framework. First, two individual hierarchical attention networks are used to encode the users and products to learn the user preferences and product characteristics from review texts. Then, we design an attention network to reflect the adaptive change in the user preferences for each aspect of the targeted product in terms of the rating and review. The results of experiments performed on three public datasets demonstrate that the proposed model notably outperforms the other state-of-the-art baselines, thereby validating the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Anodic spark deposition (ASD) is a novel technique to deposit bioceramic films on the surface of titanium (Ti) and its alloys, and the films prepared with nano/micro scale pores are characterized by high-quality performance for dental implant. Among the process parameters, electrolyte provides a leading role owing to its vital influence not only on the films chemistry but also on the electrical conductivity of the circuit, which affects the film properties. In this study, titania porous films were synthesized by ASD and the effect of electrolytic temperature on microstructure and chemical composition of the films was studied. The results show that the electrolytic temperature could significantly influence the surface topography, thickness and chemical composition of the oxidation films produced by ASD and, therefore, determined the layered hydroapatite (HA) deposition as the other process parameters were fixed.

Representing players' strategies in game theory has a direct impact on the players' performance. The state of art shows that automata are one of the primary techniques used for representing players' strategies and behaviors. In this paper, the author will identify different types of automata and assess their utilization in the field of game theory. Is has been found that finite automata, adaptive automata, and cellular automata are widely adopted in game theory. The utilization of finite automata is found to be limited to represent simpler players' behavior. On the other hand, adaptive automata and cellular automata are intensively applied in complex environments, where the number of interacted players is large and therefore, representing complex behaviors are needed.
