In this paper, we study the quasinormal modes of the massless Dirac field for charged black holes in Rastall gravity. The spherically symmetric black hole solutions in question are characterized by the presence of a power-Maxwell field, surrounded by the quintessence fluid. The calculations are carried out by employing the WKB approximations up to the 13th-order, as well as the matrix method. The temporal evolution of the quasinormal modes is investigated by using the finite difference method. Through numerical simulations, the properties of the quasinormal frequencies are analyzed, including those for the extremal black holes. Among others, we explore the case of a second type of extremal black holes regarding the Nariai solution, where the cosmical and event horizon coincide. The results obtained by the WKB approaches are found to be mostly consistent with those by the matrix method. It is observed that the magnitudes of both real and imaginary parts of the quasinormal frequencies increase with increasing [Formula: see text], the spin–orbit quantum number. Also, the roles of the parameters [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], associated with the electric charge and the equation of state of the quintessence field, respectively, are investigated regarding their effects on the quasinormal frequencies. The magnitude of the electric charge is found to sensitively affect the time scale of the first stage of quasinormal oscillations, after which the temporal oscillations become stabilized. It is demonstrated that the black hole solutions for Rastall gravity in asymptotically flat spacetimes are equivalent to those in Einstein gravity, featured by different asymptotical spacetime properties. As one of its possible consequences, we also investigate the behavior of the late-time tails of quasinormal models in the present model. It is found that the asymptotical behavior of the late-time tails of quasinormal modes in Rastall theory is governed by the asymptotical properties of the spacetimes of their counterparts in Einstein gravity.

Abstract The infinite derivative theory of gravity is a generalization of Einstein gravity with many interesting properties, but the black hole solutions in this theory are still not fully understood. In the paper, we concentrate on studying the charged black holes in such a theory. Adding the electromagnetic field part to the effective action, we show how the black hole solutions around the Reissner-Nordstr{\"o}m metric can be solved perturbatively and iteratively. We further calculate the corresponding temperature, entropy and electrostatic potential of the black holes and verify the first law of thermodynamics.

Abstract In this article we study a family of four-dimensional, $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2 supergravity theories that interpolates between all the single dilaton truncations of the SO(8) gauged $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 8 supergravity. In this infinitely many theories characterized by two real numbers — the interpolation parameter and the dyonic “angle” of the gauging — we construct non-extremal electrically or magnetically charged black hole solutions and their supersymmetric limits. All the supersymmetric black holes have non-singular horizons with spherical, hyperbolic or planar topology. Some of these supersymmetric and non-extremal black holes are new examples in the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 8 theory that do not belong to the STU model. We compute the asymptotic charges, thermodynamics and boundary conditions of these black holes and show that all of them, except one, introduce a triple trace deformation in the dual theory.

Abstract Motivated by the recent studies of the novel asymptotically global $$\hbox {AdS}_4$$AdS4 black hole with deformed horizon, we consider the action of Einstein–Maxwell gravity in AdS spacetime and construct the charged deforming AdS black holes with differential boundary. In contrast to deforming black hole without charge, there exists at least one value of horizon for an arbitrary temperature. The extremum of temperature is determined by charge q and divides the range of temperature into several parts. Moreover, we use an isometric embedding in the three-dimensional space to investigate the horizon geometry. The entropy and quasinormal modes of deforming charged AdS black hole are also studied in this paper. Due to the existence of charge q, the phase diagram of entropy is more complicated. We consider two cases of solutions: (1) fixing the chemical potential $$\mu $$μ; (2) changing the value of $$\mu $$μ according to the values of horizon radius and charge. In the first case, it is interesting to find there exist two families of black hole solutions with different horizon radii for a fixed temperature, but these two black holes have same horizon geometry and entropy. The second case ensures that deforming charged AdS black hole solutions can reduce to standard RN–AdS black holes.

AbstractIn this work, we investigate the quasinormal frequencies of a class of regular black hole solutions which generalize Bardeen and Hayward spacetimes. In particular, we analyze scalar, vector and gravitational perturbations of the black hole with the semianalytic WKB method. We analyze in detail the behaviour of the spectrum depending on the parameter p/q of the black hole, the quantum number of angular momentum and the s number. In addition, we compare our results with the classical solution valid for $$p = q = 1$$ p = q = 1 .

In this paper, we investigate the evolution of classical wave propagation in the canonical acoustic black hole by a numerical method and discuss the details of the tail phenomenon. The oscillating frequency and damping time scale both increase with the angular momentum l. For lower l, numerical results show the lowest WKB approximation gives the most reliable result. We also find that the time scale of the interim region from ringing to tail is not affected obviously by changing l.

For extremal charged black holes, the thermodynamic entropy is proportional to the mass or charges but not proportional to the area. This is demonstrated here for dyonic extremal black hole solutions of string theory. It is pointed out that these solutions have zero classical action although the area is nonzero. By combining the general form of the entropy allowed by thermodynamics with recent observations in the literature it is possible to fix the entropy almost completely.

Abstract We investigate the thermodynamic behaviour of Lorentzian Dyonic Taub-NUT Black Hole spacetimes. We consider two possibilities in their description: one in which their entropy is interpreted to be one quarter of the horizon area (the horizon entropy), and another in which the Misner string also contributes to the entropy (the Noether charge entropy). We find that there can be as many as three extremal black holes (or as few as zero) depending on the choice of parameters, and that the dependence of the free energy on temperature — and the resultant phase behaviour — depends very much on which of these situations holds. Some of the phase behaviour we observe holds regardless of which interpretation of the entropy holds. However another class of phase transition structures occurs only if the Noether charge interpretation of the entropy is adopted.

AbstractWe consider Maxwell-f(R) gravity and obtain an exact charged black hole solution with dynamic curvature in D-dimensions. Considering a spherically symmetric metric ansatz and without specifying the form of f(R) we find a general black hole solution in D-dimensions. This general black hole solution can reduce to the Reissner–Nordström (RN) black hole in D-dimensions in Einstein gravity and to the known charged black hole solutions with constant curvature in f(R) gravity. Restricting the parameters of the general solution we get polynomial solutions which reveal novel properties when compared to RN black holes. Specifically we study the solution in $$(3+1)$$ ( 3 + 1 ) -dimensions in which the form of f(R) can be solved explicitly giving a dynamic curvature and compare it with the RN black hole. We also carry out a detailed study of its thermodynamics.

Employing linear order perturbation theory with the rotation parameter as the perturbative parameter, we obtain asymptotically AdS slowly rotating black hole solutions in the Einstein gravity with Born–Infeld (BI) type nonlinear electrodynamics (NED). We start from asymptotically AdS static black hole solutions coupled to BI type NED in five dimensions. Then, we consider the effect of adding a small amount of angular momenta to the seed solutions. Finally, we investigate the geometry and thermodynamic properties of the solutions.
