We derive the off-shell nilpotent (fermionic) (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations by exploiting the (anti-)chiral superfield approach (ACSA) to Becchi–Rouet–Stora–Tyutin (BRST) formalism for the interacting Abelian 1-form gauge theories where there is a coupling between the U(1) Abelian 1-form gauge field and Dirac as well as complex scalar fields. We exploit the (anti-)BRST invariant restrictions on the (anti-)chiral superfields to derive the fermionic symmetries of our present D-dimensional Abelian 1-form gauge theories. The novel observation of our present investigation is the derivation of the absolute anticommutativity of the nilpotent (anti-)BRST charges despite the fact that our ordinary D-dimensional theories are generalized onto the (D,[Formula: see text]1)-dimensional (anti-) chiral super-submanifolds (of the general (D,[Formula: see text]2)-dimensional supermanifold) where only the (anti-)chiral super expansions of the (anti-)chiral superfields have been taken into account. We also discuss the nilpotency of the (anti-)BRST charges and (anti-)BRST invariance of the Lagrangian densities of our present theories within the framework of ACSA to BRST formalism.

Within the framework of augmented version of superfield formalism, we derive the superspace unitary operator and show its usefulness in the derivation of Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) and anti-BRST symmetry transformations for a set of interesting models for the Abelian 1-form gauge theories. These models are (i) a one (0+1)-dimensional (1D) toy model of a rigid rotor, (ii) the two (1+1)-dimensional (2D) modified versions of the Proca and anomalous Abelian 1-form gauge theories, and (iii) the 2D self-dual bosonic gauge field theory. We provide, in some sense, the alternatives to the horizontality condition (HC) and the gauge invariant restrictions (GIRs) in the language of the above superspace (SUSP) unitary operator. One of the key observations of our present endeavor is the result that the SUSP unitary operator and its Hermitian conjugate are found to be thesameforallthe Abelian models under consideration (including the 4DinteractingAbelian 1-form gauge theories with Dirac and complex scalar fields which have been discussed earlier). Thus, we establish theuniversalityof the SUSP operator for the above Abelian theories.

We apply the well-established techniques of geometrical superfield approach to Becchi–Rouet–Stora–Tyutin (BRST) formalism in the context of four (3+1)-dimensional (4D) dynamical non-Abelian 2-form gauge theory by exploiting its inherent "scalar" and "vector" gauge symmetry transformations and derive the corresponding off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting BRST and anti-BRST symmetry transformations. Our approach leads to the derivation of three (anti-)BRST invariant Curci–Ferrari (CF)-type restrictions that are found to be responsible for the absolute anticommutativity of the BRST and anti-BRST symmetry transformations. We derive the coupled Lagrangian densities that respect the (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations corresponding to the "vector" gauge transformations. We also capture the (anti-)BRST invariance of the CF-type restrictions and coupled Lagrangian densities within the framework of our superfield approach. We obtain, furthermore, the off-shell nilpotent (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations when the (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations corresponding to the "scalar" and "vector" gauge symmetries are merged together. These off-shell nilpotent "merged" (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations are, however, found to be non-anticommuting in nature.

We derive the off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting Becchi–Rouet–Stora–Tyutin (BRST) and anti-BRST symmetry transformations, corresponding to the (1-form) Yang–Mills (YM) and (2-form) tensorial gauge symmetries of the four (3+1)-dimensional (4D) Freedman–Townsend (FT) model, by exploiting the augmented version of Bonora–Tonin's (BT) superfield approach to BRST formalism where the 4D flat Minkowskian theory is generalized onto the (4, 2)-dimensional supermanifold. One of the novel observations is the fact that we are theoretically compelled to go beyond the horizontality condition (HC) to invoke an additional set of gauge-invariant restrictions (GIRs) for the derivation of the full set of proper (anti-)BRST symmetries. To obtain the (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations, corresponding to the tensorial (2-form) gauge symmetries within the framework of augmented version of BT-superfield approach, we are logically forced to modify the FT-model to incorporate an auxiliary 1-form field and the kinetic term for the antisymmetric (2-form) gauge field. This is also a new observation in our present investigation. We point out some of the key differences between the modified FT-model and Lahiri-model (LM) of the dynamical non-Abelian 2-form gauge theories. We also briefly mention a few similarities.

We derive the off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anti-commuting Becchi–Rouet–Stora–Tyutin (BRST) as well as anti-BRST symmetry transformations corresponding to the non-Yang–Mills (NYM) symmetry transformations of (2+1)-dimensional Jackiw–Pi (JP) model within the framework of "augmented" superfield formalism. The Curci–Ferrari (CF) restriction, which is a hallmark of non-Abelian one-form gauge theories, does not appear in this case. One of the novel features of our present investigation is the derivation of proper (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations corresponding to the auxiliary field ρ that cannot be derived by any conventional means.

We exploit the beauty and strength of the symmetry invariant restrictions on the (anti)chiral superfields to derive the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST), anti-BRST, and (anti-)co-BRST symmetry transformations in the case of a two (1+1)-dimensional (2D) self-dual chiral bosonic field theory within the framework of augmented (anti)chiral superfield formalism. Our 2D ordinary theory is generalized onto a (2,2)-dimensional supermanifold which is parameterized by the superspace variable ZM=xμ,θ,θ¯, where xμ (with μ=0,1) are the ordinary 2D bosonic coordinates and (θ,θ¯) are a pair of Grassmannian variables with their standard relationships: θ2=θ¯2=0, θθ¯+θ¯θ=0. We impose the (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST invariant restrictions on the (anti)chiral superfields (defined on the (anti)chiral (2,1)-dimensional supersubmanifolds of the above general (2,2)-dimensional supermanifold) to derive the above nilpotent symmetries. We do not exploit the mathematical strength of the (dual-)horizontality conditions anywhere in our present investigation. We also discuss the properties of nilpotency, absolute anticommutativity, and (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST symmetry invariance of the Lagrangian density within the framework of our augmented (anti)chiral superfield formalism. Our observation of the absolute anticommutativity property is a completely novel result in view of the fact that we have considered only the (anti)chiral superfields in our present endeavor.

We discuss the nilpotent Becchi–Rouet–Stora–Tyutin (BRST), anti-BRST and (anti-)co-BRST symmetry transformations and derive their corresponding conserved charges in the case of a two (1[Formula: see text]+[Formula: see text]1)-dimensional (2D) self-interacting non-Abelian gauge theory (without any interaction with matter fields). We point out a set of novel features that emerge out in the BRST and co-BRST analysis of the above 2D gauge theory. The algebraic structures of the symmetry operators (and corresponding conserved charges) and their relationship with the cohomological operators of differential geometry are established too. To be more precise, we demonstrate the existence of a single Lagrangian density that respects the continuous symmetries which obey proper algebraic structure of the cohomological operators of differential geometry. In the literature, such observations have been made for the coupled (but equivalent) Lagrangian densities of the 4D non-Abelian gauge theory. We lay emphasis on the existence and properties of the Curci–Ferrari (CF)-type restrictions in the context of (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST symmetry transformations and pinpoint their key differences and similarities. All the observations, connected with the (anti-)co-BRST symmetries, are completely novel.

We exploit the theoretical strength of augmented version of superfield approach (AVSA) to Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) formalism to express the nilpotency and absolute anticommutativity properties of the (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST conserved charges for the two (1+1)-dimensional (2D) non-Abelian 1-form gauge theory (without any interaction with matter fields) in the language of superspace variables, their derivatives, and suitable superfields. In the proof of absolute anticommutativity property, we invoke the strength of Curci-Ferrari (CF) condition for the (anti-)BRST charges. No such outside condition/restriction is required in the proof of absolute anticommutativity of the (anti-)co-BRST conserved charges. The latter observation (as well as other observations) connected with (anti-)co-BRST symmetries and corresponding conserved charges are novel results of our present investigation. We also discuss the (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST symmetry invariance of the appropriate Lagrangian densities within the framework of AVSA. In addition, we dwell a bit on the derivation of the above fermionic (nilpotent) symmetries by applying the AVSA to BRST formalism, where only the (anti)chiral superfields are used.

We derive the complete set of off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST), anti-BRST, and (anti-)co-BRST symmetry transformations forallthe fields of the modified version of two(1+1)-dimensional (2D) Proca theory by exploiting the “augmented” superfield formalism where the (dual-)horizontality conditions and (dual-)gauge invariant restrictions are exploitedtogether. We capture the (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST invariance of the Lagrangian density in the language of superfield approach. We also express the nilpotency and absolute anticommutativity of the (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST charges within the framework of augmented superfield formalism. This exercise leads to somenovelobservations which have, hitherto, not been pointed out in the literature within the framework of superfield approach to BRST formalism. For the sake of completeness, we also mention, very briefly, a unique bosonic symmetry, the ghost-scale symmetry, and discrete symmetries of the theory and show that the algebra of conserved charges provides a physical realization of the Hodge algebra (satisfied by the de Rham cohomological operators of differential geometry).

The nilpotent Becchi–Rouet–Stora–Tyutin (BRST), anti-BRST, dual-BRST and anti-dual-BRST symmetry transformations are constructed in the context of noncommutative (NC) 1-form as well as 2-form gauge theories. The corresponding Noether's charges for these symmetries on the Moyal plane are shown to satisfy the same algebra, as by the de Rham cohomological operators of differential geometry. The Hodge decomposition theorem on compact manifold is also studied. We show that noncommutative gauge theories are field theoretic models for Hodge theory.
