Magnetic critical current density was measured at various temperatures and fields for SmBa 2 Cu 3 O 7-x single crystal. Pronounced second peaks were observed at intermediate fields and temperatures. Normalized pinning force density [Formula: see text] exhibited a clear scaling law when H was normalized by H max where the pinning force density has the maximum value. This is an indication that a single pinning mechanism exists in the investigated temperature region.

The magnetization M of an Fe(Se, Te) single crystal has been measured as a function of temperature T and dc magnetic field H. The sample properties have been analyzed in the case of a magnetic field parallel to its largest face H||ab. From the M(T) measurement, the Tc of the sample and a magnetic background have been revealed. The superconducting hysteresis loops M(H) were between 2.5 K and 15 K showing a tilt due to the presence of a magnetic signal measured at T > Tc. From the M(H) curves, the critical current density Jc(H) has been extracted at different temperatures showing the presence of a second magnetization peak phenomenon. By extracting and fitting the Jc(T) curves at different fields, a pinning regime crossover has been identified and shown to be responsible for the origin of the second magnetization peak phenomenon. Then, the different kinds of pinning centers of the sample were investigated by means of Dew-Hughes analysis, showing that the pinning mechanism in the sample can be described in the framework of the collective pinning theory. Finally, the values of the pinning force density have been calculated at different temperatures and compared with the literature in order to understand if the sample is promising for high-current and high-power applications.

ABSTRACTNb75−xGa25+xtapes (1≤ x ≤ 6) were prepared by liquid quenching technique in an argon atmosphere. The transition temperature Tc, upper critical field Hc2 and critical current density Jc were measured in both as-quenched and annealed samples. The values of Tc (onset) ranged from 16.5 to 18.0K in the asquenched samples and increased upon annealing up to 20.0 K. Similar increase was also observed in the values of Hc2 (4.2 K) from ∼190 kOe to values higher than the attainable field of 220 kOe. For annealed samples near stoichiometric composition, Hc2 was estimated to be higher than 300 kOe. The critical current densities of these tapes are relatively low [Jc (4.2 K) ≤ 2 × 104A/cm2] compared to other melt-quenched A-15 compounds. Flux pinning force, FP, does not obey a single scaling law. The existence of two peaks in FP at low temperatures and of only one peak at 13.4 K for 1 ≤ x ≤ 4 is discussed in terms of the microstructural characteristics of the samples.
