Two-dimensional unstable manifolds of the modified Chen system are constructed at equilibrium solution by “expanding up” along the unstable eigen-direction, hence it is tangent to the unstable eigenspace. In general, unstable manifold expands to the attraction basin of the corresponding limit cycle or attractor. With the introduction of time delay, the two-dimensional unstable manifold of an unstable focus is simulated via expanding solution orbits with restriction condition on the associated foliations. The simulated unstable manifold coincides with the attraction basin of the limit cycle of the delay differential equations.

AbstractWe develop a computational method for solving an optimal control problem governed by a switched impulsive dynamical system with time delay. At each time instant, only one subsystem is active. We propose a computational method for solving this optimal control problem where the time spent by the state in each subsystem is treated as a new parameter. These parameters and the jump strengths of the impulses are decision parameters to be optimized. The gradient formula of the cost function is derived in terms of solving a number of delay differential equations forward in time. Based on this, the optimal control problem can be solved as an optimization problem.

An experimental secure communication method based on the Chen system with time-delay is being proposed in this paper. The Chen system with time-delay is an infinite-dimensional system having more than one positive Lyapunov exponent. The message to be transmitted is encrypted using an hyperchaotic signal generated by the Chen system with time-delay and multishift cipher function. This encryption makes difficult for an eavesdropper to reconstruct the attractor by using time-delay embedding techniques, return map reconstruction, or spectral analysis, consequently, improving the security. Simulations and experiments on TI TMS320C6713 Digital Signal Processor (DSP) show improved resilience against attack and the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

We present an algorithm for computing the global two-dimensional unstable manifold of a hyperbolic fixed point or a normally hyperbolic invariant circle of a three-dimensional map. The global stable manifold can be obtained by considering the inverse map. Our algorithm computes intersections of the unstable manifold with a finite number of leaves of a chosen linear foliation. In this way, we obtain a growing piece of the unstable manifold represented by a mesh of prescribed quality. The performance of the algorithm is demonstrated with several examples.

AbstractIn this paper, we propose a novel dynamical system with time delay to describe the outbreak of 2019-nCoV in China. One typical feature of this epidemic is that it can spread in the latent period, which can therefore be described by time delay process in the differential equations. The accumulated numbers of classified populations are employed as variables, which is consistent with the official data and facilitates the parameter identification. The numerical methods for the prediction of the outbreak of 2019-nCoV and parameter identification are provided, and the numerical results show that the novel dynamic system can well predict the outbreak trend so far. Based on the numerical simulations, we suggest that the transmission of individuals should be greatly controlled with high isolation rate by the government.
