We consider groups [Formula: see text] which have generating sets consisting of pairwise conjugate elements. We introduce a natural condition on such sets, namely path-connectedness, which has strong consequences when [Formula: see text] acts on a real tree. The main result of the paper states that the group of type-preserving automorphisms of a regular simplicial tree has a generating set with this property.

A control system has been developed for a high-quality generating set (150-kW) equipped with a two-shaft gas turbine featuring a variable power turbine nozzle. Because this generating set satisfies stringent frequency stability requirements, it can be employed as the direct electric power source for computer centers without using constant-voltage, constant-frequency power supply systems. Conventional generating sets of this kind have normally been powered by single-shaft gas turbines, which have a larger output shaft inertia than the two-shaft version. Good frequency characteristics have also been realized with the two-shaft gas turbine, which provides superior quick start ability and lower fuel consumption under partial loads.

AbstractWe give a new proof of a theorem of D. Calegari that says that the Cayley graph of a surface group with respect to any generating set lying in finitely many mapping class group orbits has infinite diameter. This applies, for instance, to the generating set consisting of all simple closed curves.

AbstractLet {K\langle X\rangle=K\langle X_{1},\ldots,X_{n}\rangle} be the free algebra generated by {X=\{X_{1},\ldots,X_{n}\}} over a field K. It is shown that, with respect to any weighted {\mathbb{N}}-gradation attached to {K\langle X\rangle}, minimal homogeneous generating sets for finitely generated graded two-sided ideals of {K\langle X\rangle} can be algorithmically computed, and that if an ungraded two-sided ideal I of {K\langle X\rangle} has a finite Gröbner basis {{\mathcal{G}}} with respect to a graded monomial ordering on {K\langle X\rangle}, then a minimal standard basis for I can be computed via computing a minimal homogeneous generating set of the associated graded ideal {\langle\mathbf{LH}(I)\rangle}.

The dynamic characteristics of shaft system in water turbine generating set and hydropower house structure is investigated by using the APDL procedure in ANSYS. The coupled vibration model which contains unit piers, hydropower house structure and water turbine generating set is developed. In this model, the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the supporting structure (radial bearing) in water turbine generating set and the flexibility of unit piers and hydropower house structure are all considered. Through the revolving periodic transient results of the former four generating sets, the dynamic response of the shaft system in water turbine generating set and the dynamic characteristics of the hydropower house structure are analyzed. The interaction between the hydropower house structure and the water turbine generating set is discussed, which provide useful references to anti-vibration design of the hydropower house structure.

This paper records some observations concerning geodesic growth functions. If a nilpotent group is not virtually cyclic then it has exponential geodesic growth with respect to all finite generating sets. On the other hand, if a finitely generated group G has an element whose normal closure is abelian and of finite index, then G has a finite generating set with respect to which the geodesic growth is polynomial (this includes all virtually cyclic groups).

Let [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] be the monoids of all (full) transformations and of all partial transformations, on a finite chain [Formula: see text] under its natural order, respectively. Moreover, let [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) be the subsemigroup of [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) consists of all monotone transformations (monotone partial transformations) with height less than or equal to [Formula: see text] for [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]). In this paper, we develop a new and general approach to find a (minimal) generating set of [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]).

Let d(G) denote the minimum of the cardinalities of the generating sets of the group G. Call a generating set of cardinality d(G) a minimal generating set for G. If A is a finitely generated nilpotent group, B a non-trivial finitely generated abelian group and A wr B is their (restricted, standard) wreath product, then it is proved (by explicitly constructing a minimal generating set for A wr B ) that d(AwrB) = max{l+d(A), d(A×B)} where A × B is their direct product.

A large number of wind farms have been built in recent years, it is growing that the wind generating sets share of the total. On the other side, as the controllability of wind generating set is far weaker than the thermal generator set or hydro electric generating set. It leads to many problems for the power grid, such as voltage fluctuation or flicker generated in the process of continued operating or switching operation. It will bring a bad influence on power quality of local grid. Combined with practical conditions in Hebei Hongfeng wind farm, in this paper aiming at wind generating set output fluctuation, the reactive power compensation and the grid stability, mainly setting out from several aspects, analyzes the main reasons of grid voltage fluctuation or flicker caused by wind power generation. It is also analyzed that lowering the grid voltage instability.
