Development of TOPSIS Method to Solve Complicated Decision-Making Problems — An Overview on Developments from 2000 to 2015

In recent years several previous scholars made attempts to develop, extend, propose and apply Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) for solving problems in decision making issues. Indeed, there are questions, how TOPSIS can help for solving these problems? Or does TOPSIS solved decision making problems in the real world? Therefore, this study shows the recent developments of TOPSIS approach which are presented by previous scholars. To achieve this objective, there are 105 reviewed papers which developed, extended, proposed and presented TOPSIS approach for solving DM problems. The results of the study indicated that 49 scholars have extended or developed TOPSIS technique and 56 scholars have proposed or presented new modifications for problems solution related to TOPSIS technique from 2000 to 2015. In addition, results of this study indicated that, previous studies have modifications related to this technique in 2011 more than other years.

TOPSIS (technique for order preference similarity to ideal solution) is considered one of the known classical multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) methods to solve bi-level non-linear fractional multi-objective decision making (BL-NFMODM) problems, and in which the objective function at each level is considered nonlinear and maximization type fractional functions. The proposed approach presents the basic terminology of TOPSIS approach and the construction of membership function for the upper level decision variable vectors, the membership functions of the distance functions from the positive ideal solution (PIS) and of the distance functions from the negative ideal solution (NIS). Thereafter a fuzzy goal programming model is adopted to obtain compromise optimal solution of BL-NFMODM problems. The proposed approach avoids the decision deadlock situations in decision making process and possibility of rejecting the solution again and again by lower level decision makers. The presented TOPSIS technique for BL-NFMODM problems is a new fuzzy extension form of TOPSIS approach suggested by Baky and Abo-Sinna (2013) (Applied Mathematical Modelling, 37, 1004-1015, 2013) which dealt with bi -level multi-objective decision making (BL-MODM) problems. Also, an algorithm is presented of the new fuzzy TOPSIS approach for solving BL-NFMODM problems. Finally, an illustrative numerical example is given to demonstrate the approach.

The corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has emerged as a fatal virus. This deadly virus has taken the whole world into clutches and many people have embraced death due to this invincible bug. The death toll is rising with every tick of time. The aspiration behind this article is to discover the preventive measure that should be taken to cope with this intangible enemy. We study the prime notions of novel sort of topology accredited Pythagorean [Formula: see text]-polar fuzzy topology along with its prime attributes. We slightly amend the well-acknowledged multi-criteria decision analysis tool TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) to befit the proposed multi-criteria group decision making (MCGDM) problem of exploring the most effective method for curing from COVID-19 employing the proposed model.

Banking has always played an important role in the economy because of its effects on individuals as well as on the economy. In the process of renovation and modernization of the country, the system of commercial banks has changed dramatically. Business models and services have become more diversified. Therefore, the performance of commercial banks is always attracting the attention of managers, supervisors, banks and customers. Bank ranking can be viewed as a multi-criteria decision model. This article uses the technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method to rank some commercial banks in Vietnam.

This paper presents the use of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) for the evaluation of smart cities. During the development of the method, the importance of the decision-making approach in the linear ordering of cities was presented. The method of using the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) was proposed for the preparation of ranking. The method was verified by the application in the measurement of energy performance in smart cities. The authors conducted a literature review of research papers related to urban energy and MCDM published in the period from 2010 to 2020. The paper uses data from the World Council on City Data (WCCD). The research conducted allowed for the identification of the most popular MCDM techniques in the field of urban energy such as TOPSIS, AHP and DEA. The TOPSIS technique was used to organize and group the analyzed cities. Porto took the top position, whereas Buenos Aries was the last.

The various feminist judgment projects (FJPs) have explored through the imagined rewriting of judgments a range of ways in which a feminist perspective may be applied to the practice of judging. But how do these imagined judgments compare to what actual feminist judges do? This article presents the results of the author’s empirical research to date on ‘real world’ feminist judging. Drawing on case study and interview data it explores the how, when and where of feminist judging, that is, the feminist resources, tools and techniques judges have drawn upon, the stages in the hearing and decision-making process at which these resources, tools and techniques have been deployed, and the areas of law in which they have been applied. The article goes on to consider observed and potential limits on feminist judicial practice, before drawing conclusions about the comparison between ‘real world’ feminist judging and the practices of FJPs. Los proyectos de sentencias feministas, a través de la reelaboración imaginaria de sentencias judiciales, han explorado multitud de vías en las que las perspectivas feministas se podrían aplicar a la práctica judicial. Pero ¿qué resulta de la comparación entre dichas sentencias y la práctica real de las juezas feministas? Este artículo presenta los resultados de la investigación empírica de la autora. Se analiza el cómo, el cuándo y el dónde de la labor judicial feminista, es decir, los recursos, herramientas y técnicas feministas que las juezas han utilizado, las fases de audiencia y toma de decisión en las que se han utilizado y las áreas del derecho en que se han aplicado. Además, se toman en consideración los límites observados y potenciales de la práctica judicial feminista, y se extraen conclusiones sobre la comparación entre la labor judicial feminista en el “mundo real” y la práctica de los proyectos de tribunales feministas.

The centrality plays an important role in many community-detection algorithms, which depend on various kinds of centralities to identify seed vertices of communities first and then expand each of communities based on the seeds to get the resulting community structure. The traditional algorithms always use a single centrality measure to recognize seed vertices from the network, but each centrality measure has both pros and cons when being used in this circumstance; hence seed vertices identified using a single centrality measure might not be the best ones. In this paper, we propose a framework which integrates advantages of various centrality measures to identify the seed vertices from the network based on the TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) multiattribute decision-making technology. We take each of the centrality measures involved as an attribute, rank vertices according to the scores which are calculated for them using TOPSIS, and then take vertices with top ranks as the seeds. To put this framework into practice, we concretize it in this paper by considering four centrality measures as attributes to identify the seed vertices of communities first, then expanding communities by iteratively inserting one unclassified vertex into the community to which its most similar neighbor belongs, and the similarity between them is the largest among all pairs of vertices. After that, we obtain the initial community structure. However, the amount of communities might be much more than they should be, and some communities might be too small to make sense. Therefore, we finally consider a postprocessing procedure to merge some initial communities into larger ones to acquire the resulting community structure. To test the effectiveness of the proposed framework and method, we have performed extensive experiments on both some synthetic networks and some real-world networks; the experimental results show that the proposed method can get better results, and the quality of the detected community structure is much higher than those of competitors.

Multi-criteria decision making with hesitant fuzzy information is a new research topic since the hesitant fuzzy set was firstly proposed. This paper investigates a multi-criteria decision making problem where the weight information is partially known. We firstly propose the hesitant fuzzy positive ideal solution and the hesitant fuzzy negative ideal solution. Motivated by the TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an ideal Solution) method, we definite the satisfaction degree of an alternative, based on which several optimization models are derived to determinate the weights. Subsequently, in order to make a more reasonable decision, we introduce an interactive method based on some optimization models for multi-criteria decision making problems with hesitant fuzzy information. Finally, a practical example on evaluating the service quality of airlines is provided to illustrate our models and method.
