Synthesis and crystal structure of a novel hexaborate, Na2ZnB6O11

A novel hexaborate, Na2ZnB6O11, has been successfully synthesized by solid-state reaction and ab initio crystal-structure analysis has been completed using powder X-ray diffraction data. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group Cc with lattice parameters a=10.7329(2) Å b=7.4080(3) Å, c=11.4822(2) Å, and β=112.16(2)°. The number of chemical formula per unit cell is Z=4 and the calculated density is 2.768(3) g/cm3. It represents a new structure type in which double-bridge-ring [B6O11]4− groups were found as fundamental building units. The infrared spectrum confirms the presence of both [BO3]3− groups and [BO4]5− groups.

The (Ag,Pd)22Se6 phase was synthesized from individual elements by silica glass tube technique and structurally characterized from powder X-ray diffraction data. The (Ag,Pd)22Se6 phase crystallizes in Fm$\overline3$m symmetry, unit-cell parameters: a = 12.3169(2) Å, V = 1862.55(5) Å3, Z = 4, and Dc = 10.01 g/cm3. The crystal structure of the (Ag,Pd)22Se6 phase represents a stuffed 3a.3a.3a superstructure of the Pd structure (fcc), where only 4 from 108 available octahedral holes are occupied. Its crystal structure is related to the Cr23C6 structure type.

The structure of tetraphenylarsonium pentachlorocarbonylosmate(IV), (Ph4As)[OsCl5(CO)], the first example of a halogenocarbonyl complex with osmium in the oxidation state +IV, has been determined at 208 K by single crystal X-ray diffraction: tetragonal, space group P4/n with a = 12.821 , c = 8.084 Å, Z = 2. There are short intermolecular contacts between neighbouring anions along the tetragonal axis c and unusually large displacement ellipsoids of the carbonyl group and the four equatorial Cl ligands arising from a positional disorder of the complex anion. By analogy with a variety of reported structures of the (Ph4As)[RuNCl4] structure type this is attributed to the close packing of the cation sublattice. Compared to other monocarbonylosmates the Os-C bond of 1.94(2) Å is extraordinaryly long while the bond between Os and the trans coordinated Cl ligand of 2.286(3) Å is rather short.

AbstractLeguernite, ideally Bi12.67O14(SO4)5, is a new mineral found in high-temperature fumarolic assemblages at La Fossa crater, Vulcano, Aeolian Islands, Italy. It occurs as aggregates of needleshaped crystals associated strictly with anglesite, balićžunićite and an unknown Bi sulfate. Leguernite is colourless to white, transparent, non-fluorescent, has a sub-adamantine lustre and a white streak. Electron microprobe data led to the chemical formula (on the basis of 34 anions p.f.u.) (Bi12.40Pb0.15)Σ=12.55S5.08O34. The calculated density is 7.375 g cm–3. A Raman spectrum collected on a single crystal of leguernite confirmed the anhydrous nature of the mineral.Leguernite is monoclinic, space group P2, with a = 11.2486(11), b = 5.6568(6), c = 11.9139(10) Å , β = 99.177(7)º, V = 748.39(12) Å3 and Z = 1. The crystal structure is built up of Bi–O blocks of a fluorite-like structure with Bi12O14 composition separated by a single sulfate ion along [100] and by Bi(SO4)45– groups along [101]. It can also be described as composed of (001) layers with composition [Bi12O14(SO4)6+]n alternating with layers of composition [Bi(SO4)4]n5– along [001]. Leguernite shows significant similarities with the synthetic Bi14O16(SO4)5 compound.The eight strongest reflections in the powder X-ray diffraction data [d in Å (I) (hkl)] are: 3.220 (100) (013), 3.100 (95) (11), 2.83 (30) (020), 2.931 (25) (302), 2.502 (25) (04), 2.035 (20) (322), 1.875 (20) (24) and 5.040 (15) (110).The name is in honour of Franc¸ois “Fanfan” Le Guern (1942–2011), who was a very active volcanologist and specialist in volcanic gases and sublimates. Both the mineral and the mineral name have been approved by the IMA-CNMNC (2013–051).

Acid-catalyzed degradation of cyclosporin A was studied in various solvents and products of reaction were monitored by HPLC. Identification of amino acids and their chirality were determined after hydrolysis and derivatization by GC-MS. Cyclosporin H was isolated as the principal product and its structure was determined by X-ray diffraction: Cyclosporin H- diethyl ether-water (1 : 0.5 : 1) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group I2 with a = 12.338(2) Å, b = 18.963(2) Å, c = 34.074(3) Å, β = 96.47(2)°, Z = 4, and V = 7 921.4(17) Å3.

A new metal-organic complex FeII2FeIII2(cbba)4(L)6 (Hcbba = 2-(4΄-chlorine-benzoyl) benzoic acid, L = 3-(2-pyridyl)pyrazole) 1 has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, TG and IR spectroscopy. The compound crystallizes in monoclinic, space group Cc with a = 17.729(5), b = 15.919(5), c = 33.650(5) Å, β = 92.058(5)°, V = 9491(4) Å3, C104H68Cl4Fe4N18O12, Mr = 2126.96, Dc = 1.489 g/cm3, μ(MoKα) = 0.786 mm1, F(000) = 4344, Z = 4, the final R = 0.0559 and wR = 0.1122 for 12093 observed reflections (I > 2(I)).

AbstractOdigitriaite, a new Cs, Na, Ca borosilicate mineral, was discovered in moraine adjacent to the Darai-Pioz alkaline massif in the upper reaches of the Darai-Pioz river at the intersection of the Turkestansky, Zeravshansky and Alaisky mountain ridges, Tajikistan. It occurs as irregular thin flakes associated with quartz, pectolite, baratovite, fluorite, pekovite, polylithionite, aegirine, leucosphenite, pyrochlore, neptunite, reedmergnerite, mendeleevite-(Ce), zeravshanite and sokolovaite. It is colourless with a white streak, is translucent and has a vitreous lustre; it does not fluoresce under ultraviolet light. Odigitriaite is brittle with an uneven fracture and a Mohs hardness of 5. The calculated density is 2.80(2) g/cm3. The indices of refraction are α = 1.502, β = 1.564, γ = 1.576; 2Vobs = 46(2)°, dispersion is weak r > v, and there is no pleochroism. The chemical composition is as follows (electron microprobe, H2O calculated from structure): SiO2 55.30, Al2O3 0.09, Y2O3 0.44, MnO 0.94, FeO 0.10, PbO 0.21, K2O 0.01 Cs2O 8.36, B2O3 4.75, H2O 0.37, F 1.74, O = F2 –0.74, total 99.43 wt.%. The empirical formula of odigitriaite is Cs0.90Na5.12Ca4.68Mn0.20Y0.06Fe0.02Pb0.01[Si13.92Al0.03B2.06O38]F1.39(OH)0.62. The end-member formula is CsNa5Ca5[Si14B2O38]F2. The strong reflections in the powder X-ray diffraction pattern are: [(d, Å), (I, %), (hkl)]: 5.45 (25) (1 1 3), 4.66 (33) (3 1 1), 4.40 (26) (0 2 2), 4.10 (36) (3 1 3), 3.95 (25) (3̄ 1 3), 2.85 (31) (2 2 2), 2.68 (40) (0 0 6), 3.62 (45) (0 2 4), 3.35 (100) (2̄ 2 4), 3.31 (30) (3̄ 1 5), 3.25 (35) (4 0 4), 3.04 (60) (4̄ 2 2), 2.925 (22) (4̄ 2 3), 1.813 (23) (9 1 0). Odigitriaite is monoclinic, space group C2/c, a = 16.652(5), b = 9.598 (3), c = 22.120(7) Å, β= 92.875(14)°, V = 3530.9(1.9) Å3, Z = 4. The crystal structure of odigitriaite was solved by direct methods and refined to an R1 value of 2.75% based on single-crystal X-ray data. It is a double-layer sheet-borosilicate mineral; Cs and Na are intercalated within the double-layer sheet, and the double layers are linked by interstitial Ca and Na atoms.

[Hg2(p-SC6H4NO2)]NO3 is formed by the reaction of p-nitrothiophenol with dimercury(I)-dinitrate in methanol. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n with a = 1175.5(9) pm, b = 1079.8(8) pm, c = 876.2(8) pm, β = 110.74(4)° and Z = 4. The crystal structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction and refined to an R-value of 0.052. The results show that the compound exists as a chain structure of [—®S(C6H4NO2)— Hg— Hg—]n with nitrate ions connecting the chains.

Two new phosphates with alluaudite type structure (M, Mn)3Fe(PO4)3 (M= Ca, Cd), namely Ca1.54Mn1.46Fe(PO4)3 and Cd0.66Mn2.34Fe(PO4)3, has been synthesized by a solid state reaction and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The two compounds crystallize in the monoclinic system with C2/c space group. Their open framework results from (Fe1/Mn1)2O10 units of edge-sharing (Fe/Mn)O6 octahedra, which alternate with M(1)O6 octahedra (M(1)=Ca1/Mn2 or Cd1/Mn2) that form infinite chains running along [10-1] direction. These chains are linked together through the common corners of PO4 tetrahedra giving rise to two types of tunnels occupied by bivalent cations Ca2+ or Cd2+ and Mn2+.

Abstract The caesium hydrogen benzoylcyanoximate (L-) complex with 18-crown-6 of composition Cs(18-crown-6){H(L)2} has been prepared and studied by means of X-ray diffraction [monoclinic, space group P21/n, with a = 9.906(1), b = 18.387(3), c = 18.855(3)Å, β = 90.13(1)°, V = 3434.3(9) Å, Z = 4; final R1 = 0.043 for the 6431 independent reflections used. The lattice consists of Cs(18-crown-6)+ cations and complex hydrogen oximate anions {H(L)2}-, formed via strong hydrogen bonding between the oxygen atoms of nitroso-groups [O - - - O ca. 2.456(5)Å]. The caesium atom deviates by 1.492(3) Å from the mean plane of the oxygen atoms of the macrocyclic ether (dominant orientation of disordered ligand, 60%) and adopts a typical “sunrise coordination” [Cs-O (ether) 3.040(9)-3.312(7) Å]. The hydrogen oximate groups are bonded to the metal center only on one side of the crown ether plane via the oxygen atoms of nitroso-groups and the nitrogen atoms of cyano groups (Cs-O ca. 3.040(9), 3.312(7) Å; Cs-N ca. 3.469(5), 3.679(6) Å). The coordination polyhedron of Cs+ can be described as a distorted bicapped tetragonal prism.
