Hydatid cysts are rarely asymptomatic depending on their location. Complaints may be only relevant due to secondary problems. This paper presents a case report of a myocardial hydatid cyst which was totally excised under cardiopulmonary bypass operation with median sternotomy. Patient was admitted to the hospital with complaint of atypical chest pain in pungent manner together with shortness of breath. Various methods are used for diagnosis. However, echocardiography and computerized tomography with contrast are usually enough for definitive diagnosis and for deciding the strategy of operation. Curative excision must be performed. Extra care should be provided during the operation in order to prevent contamination. Postoperative appropriate antibiotherapy must be administered. Environment should be changed, and infrastructure must be improved in order to prevent further recurrences.

Hepatic hydatid cysts are benign cysts in the liver that are the result of parasites infection. They are caused by echinoccocus granulosis or multilocularis. They caused several symptoms like pain, obstructive jaundice, and sepsis. Hydatid cyst can be complicated to cystobiliary communication (CBC) which can be frank CBC or occult CBC. Medical, endoscopic, percutaneous and surgical treatments are different approaches to treat hydatid cyst. Here we report a case of hepatic hydatid cyst with cystobiliary communication, causing obstructive jaundice and treated with sphincterotomy and insertion of biliary stent through endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).

Hydatid cyst is a very significant health problem in India. As recorded in the literature, majority of hydatid cysts are found in the liver followed by the lungs with an incidence rate of 60-70% and 10-15% respectively. Cystic hydatid disease in bones is seen in less than 4% of cases, with majority presenting in the spine. In this case report we have discussed primary intraspinal extradural hydatid cyst with paravertebral extension (dumbbell shaped) in lumbar vertebra which is a rarity. The diagnosis was established intraoperatively based on the findings with a follow up and review of literatures, along with its management.

A tailgut cyst is a rare developmental lesion and usually is located in the retrorectal or presacral space. Extrahepatic hydatid disease has been reported in several locations including the pelvis and it often poses a diagnostic challenge. There are very few reported cases of primary perineal hydatid cysts. We present the multimodality imaging findings of a tailgut cyst and concurrent perineal hydatid disease in a 32-year-old male patient.

Hydatid disease, caused by Echinococcus granulosus is still endemic in certain parts of world but not a common disease in our country. Hydatid cysts mainly involve the liver and lungs but any other organ can potentially be involved. Renal hydatid cyst is uncommon and represents 2-4% of hydatid cyst in human. We report a case of isolated hydatid cyst of right kidney in our surgical care. A 36 years old lady was admitted under our care with gradually increasing lump and mild pain in right lumbar region for 6 months. Ultrasonography revealed a diagnosis of hydatid cyst. IVU showed smooth filling defect in right kidney which displaced pelvicaliceal system. Serological tests were not done due to unavailability. The patient was operated on and endocystectomy, deroofing and marsupialization were done. Hydatid cyst was confirmed by histopathological examination. Albendazole was started 2 weeks before operation and continued postoperatively for 1 month. The patient was discharged on 8th postoperative day and was closely followed up for 3 years without any further development of hydatid cyst in any organ.Faridpur Med. Coll. J. Jan 2015;10(1): 40-43

The authors presented a case of a 50-year-old patient with multiple trauma who suffered from the inadvertent cannulation of the main pulmonary artery at the second attempt of left chest drainage. Pulmonary artery injury has been suspected because early chest tube production was 2300 mL of blood. CT scan showed injury of the trunk of the pulmonary artery, left hemothorax, and suspect damage of the right branch of the pulmonary artery. That chest tube touched the posterior wall of ascending aorta. Surgical approach was median sternotomy. Exploration showed a perforation of the trunk of pulmonary artery without lesion of the right pulmonary branch and the posterior wall of the ascending aorta. The lesion was repaired under normothermic partial cardiopulmonary bypass. Postoperative period was free of events. Review of the literatures for this rare case report has been done.

The hydatid cyst is a parasitic pathology which is endemic in Tunisia and presents a public health problem. Hydatid cysts located in the retroperitoneum, especially around or in the kidney, are rare and only represent 5% of visceral locations. The kidney is the most commonly affected organ of the urinary tract. The psoas muscle is an uncommon location and not less than 70 cases have been cited. We report the case of an unusual presentation of a right kidney hydatid cyst associated with a psoas muscle location. To our knowledge, this association of double retroperitoneal location has not been reported in the literature.

BACKGROUND: Echinococcosis of the heart has a rate 0.02–2% of all hydatid diseases. Clinical presentation is depending of the location of hydatid cyst in the heart. Patients can be an asymptomatic case or lethal stroke, arrhythmias, valvular dysfunction, pulmonary edema, cardiac tamponade, cardiac failure, shock, and even death. CASE REPORT: We present a case report, a 14-year-old child with 2 weeks of sore throat, whooping cough, subfebrile condition, sweating, fatigue and physical weakness, nausea, abdominal pain, and decreased appetite. He came to emergency room with cardiogenic shock and pulmonary edema. He was diagnosed with intramyocardial hydatid cyst. CONCLUSION: Echinococcus cyst lesion in the LV in lateral wall, not communicating with the LV cavity, has been removed successfully with on-pump technique in a 14-year-oldchild. Median sternotomy was preferred and cardiopulmonary bypass has been considered the safest method. Supplemental medical therapy with albendazole is recommended to reduce the risk of recurrence.

Hydatidosis is a public health problem in endemic countries. Hydatid cysts are located usually in the liver and the lungs. Primary pancreatic hydatid cyst is in unusual location and rarely causes acute pancreatitis. In this paper, we report a case of a 34-year-old man who admitted with recurrent acute pancreatitis. Following the preoperation investigations, the primary impression was a pancreatic pseudocyst. During surgery, a primary hydatid cyst was detected in the pancreas measuring 35 × 20 × 15 cm. The treatment consisted of evacuation and external draining of the cyst. In addition, we summarized 14 cases of primary hydatid cyst of the pancreas associated with acute pancreatitis reported in the literature.

Bronchogenic cysts frequently occur in the mediastinum. They may be rarely encountered in the abdomen and retroperitoneum. Bronchogenic cysts can in fact mimic hydatid cysts. We report a case of retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst below the right hemidiaphragm mimicking a hydatid cyst of the liver in a 30-year-old female.
