The influence of boundary soil properties on tunneling-induced ground settlement is generally not considered in current analytic solutions, and the hypothesis of equal initial stress in vertical and horizontal makes the application of the above solutions limited. Based on the homogeneous half-plane hypothesis, by defining the boundary condition according to the ground loss pattern in shallow tunnel, and with the use of Mohr-Coulomb plastic yielding criteria and classic Lame and Kiersch elastic equations by separating the nonuniform stress field to uniform and single-direction stress field, a semiempirical solution for ground settlement induced by single shallow circular tunnel is presented and sensitivity to the ground parameters is analyzed. The methods of settlement control are offered by influence factors analysis of semiempirical solution. A case study in Beijing Metro tunnel shows that the semiempirical solution agrees well with the in situ measured results.

During the shield construction of Harbin Subway Line No. 3 Project, the average ground settlement exceeds the warning value. In order to find the cause of settlement and improve it, this paper establishes a settlement prediction model to analyse the potential influencing factors based on the Deep Belief Network (DBN) and calculated the correlation degree between influencing factors and settlement through sensitivity analysis. It was found that the permeability coefficients of layer and cutter head torque are the main factors affecting settlement. Then, corresponding muck improvement measures were made according to the analysis of the layer conditions, which successfully reduced the permeability and shear strength of the muck, thereby controlling the surface settlement value within the warning range. The research results in this paper illustrate the applicability and robustness of DBN in tunnel engineering, and the related research ideas can be applied to other projects.

In urban environment, the soil disturbance induced by shield tunneling can be sensitive because it can cause deformation of the ground and damage the near structure. To study this disturbance in the construction process of Tianjin metro line No.3, in-situ monitoring of pore water pressure, soil pressure and ground settlement were conducted. The pore water pressure was monitored for the soil around the tunnel. The soil pressure was monitored for the soil around the tunnel and on the tunnel face. It was revealed that the pore water pressure and soil pressure changed twice in the tunneling process and these changes were induced by cutting face and grouting at the shield tail. The soil pressure on the tunnel face reached its maximal value when the distance between the cutting face and the sensor elements was around the diameter of the tunnel. Ground settlement developed in the tunneling process. The shape of ultimate settlement trough is closed to the one obtained by Pecks method.

The cone dynamic penetration test is a kind of test method, which has the features of simple device, easy operation, great adaptability, high efficiency and it also is a continuous in-situ test method. But in the common geotechnical exploration activities, we found that bearing capacity of foundation is always larger than the measured value, by analysis to the blow count of cone dynamic penetration in the standard table. This article set the gravel soil geotechnical exploration of Guangxi province’s city planning exhibition center of China as the example, to start with the theory of cone dynamic penetration, and analysis the reason why there are the abnormal value in the dynamic penetration, furthermore, provide the relative error correction models for it. Finally, establish the rational relationship between dynamic penetration results and foundation soil mechanical parameters.

To reasonably design the layout scheme of CFG piles treatment in highway soft foundation settlement, the influence factors of CFG piles treatment were analyzed and evaluated, based on the FEM model. According to the results, the space between CFG piles has the greatest influence. With the increase of pile spacing, the surface settlement of subgrade increases correspondingly. The settlement differentials of each CFG piles layout scheme are also put forward as a reference to highway soft ground settlement control.

Shield tunneling construction inevitably makes impacts on underground utilities. This paper takes some Metro engineering for background, study the underground utilities settlement rules induced by shield tunneling construction. As for shallow-buried and high ground water table tunnel, the coupling of hydrological and stress field must be paid attention. By seepage continuity equation and hydrodynamic equations, study changing situation of the deformation and stress by contrast the effect of seepage. And, contrast the measured value and simulation value to verify the rationality of using fluid-solid coupling method to forecast the ground settlement during tunnel construction.
