This paper includes synthesis and characterization of mixed ligand complexes derived from mefenamic acid and metformin using transition metal ions such as Co(II) and Cu(II). These complexes have been characterized by magnetic susceptibility, molar conductance, TG analyses, and spectral techniques such as FTIR and UV spectra. The theoretical study of the ligands and their complexes using semiempirical (PM6) method was used to measure IR and UV spectroscopy, HOMO-LUMO categories of the ligands. These synthesized complexes are also studied for their biological activities. The studies made on these complexes proposed a six octahedral geometry.

Nowadays, wild-grown edible mushrooms which are natural, nutritious, and healthy get more and more popular by large consumers. In this paper, UV spectra of different Boletaceae mushrooms with the aid of partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were shown to be a practical and rapid method for discrimination purpose. The specimens of Boletus edulis, Boletus ferrugineus, Boletus tomentipes, Leccinum rugosiceps, and Xerocomus sp. were described based on the UV spectra. From the results, all the specimens were characterized by strong absorption at the wavelengths of 274 and 284 nm and showed the shoulder at 296 nm. However, changes could be seen in the peak heights at the same wavelength for different samples. After analyzing by chemometrics, visual discrimination among samples was presented and the relationships among them were also obtained. This study showed that UV spectroscopy combined with chemometrics methods could be used successfully as a simple and effective approach for characterization of these five wild-grown edible mushrooms at species and genus levels. Meanwhile, this rapid and simple methodology could also provide reference for the discrimination of edible mushrooms.

Hydroxyurea (HU) is a cytostatic agent with antineoplastic activity and it has great clinical efficacy in the treatment of sickle cell disease. HU is part of the National Relation of Essential Medicines of Brazil and despite of its clinical importance, only the Portuguese, American and European Pharmacopoeias present monographs for this medicine. This study aimed to develop qualitative methods for identification and verification of purity of HU. For the HU identification, IR and UV spectroscopy were used, as well as TLC. The IR and UV spectra showed compatibility and the maximum absorption at 213 nm. For TLC, various pure or polarity gradient solvents were tested with results satisfactory for a mobile phase containing acetone and ethyl acetate (99:1, v/v). The replacement of the mobile phase generated less chemical waste, while minimizing the risks to the health of the operator, in accordance with the main concept of green analytical chemistry.

Complexes of La(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III), Gd(III) and Dy(III) with the Schiff-base, N,N′-di-4-(4’-heptadecyloxybenzoate)salicylidene-1,3-diaminopropane, (abbreviated as H2L) have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic, electronic, infrared, 1H and 13C NMR spectral techniques. The nephelauxetic ratio (β), the bonding parameter (b1/2), Sinha’s parameter (%δ) and angular overlap parameter (η) have been calculated from the electronic spectra of Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III) and Dy(III) complexes. Infrared and NMR spectral data imply a bi-dentate bonding of the Schiff-base in its zwitterionic form (as LH2) to the Ln(III) ions through two phenolate oxygens, rendering the overall geometry around Ln(III) to distorted square antiprism. Polarized optical microscopy (POM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) shows the liquid crystalline property of the ligand with a nematic (N) mesophase. Among the metal complexes, only that of the Gd(III) exhibits smectic B (SmB) and nematic (N) phases.

Kappa (κ-) carrageenan oligomers are known to have several biological activities. Recent progress in the development of modified κ-carrageenan has resulted low molecular of κ-carrageenan. Ozone is a powerful oxidant and considered for depolymerization of κ-carrageenan. However, few studies have investigated the changes in κ-carrageenan properties associated with ozone treatment. This study would investigate on the changes in chemical structure after ozonation process. The experiments were carried out in a glass reactor equipped with an ozone bubble diffuser. Ozone with concentration of 80 ± 2 was bubbled into the solution. The ozone treatment was conducted at different times, i.e., 0 (control), 5, 10, 15, and 20 minutes. The experiments were conducted at pH 7 and constant stirring speed (200 rpm). Ozone-treated κ-carrageenan was dried at 60 ºC for 24 h in a forced air oven. The chemical and spectral analyses of κ-carrageenan after ozonation process were carried out using UV-Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy. These changes are seen in the UV spectra as a high intensity of absorbance peak at 290 nm. It is shows that ozonation of κ-carrageenan leads to some chemical changes such as the formation of carbonyl, carboxyl or double bonds. The FT-IR spectra reveals that the chemical structure of degraded κ-carrageenan, in term of sulfate content, is only slightly affected by the ozone treatment.

A sandwich-type tungstophosphate, (1,3-H2dap)2H4[Co4 (1,3-Hdap)2(α-B-PW9O34)2] ·3H2O (1,3-dap=1,3-diaminopropane), was hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental and thermo-gravimetric analysis, and IR and UV spectroscopy. The compound presents a classical tetra-transition metal-substituted sandwich framework, [Co4(1,3-Hdap)2(α-B-PW9O34)2]8-, which contains two lacunary α-B-[PW9O34]9- Keggin units linked by a rhomblike Co4O14(1,3-dap)2 cluster lying across an inversion center. The Co2+ ions are coordinated by a mono-protonated dap ligand. Isolatedly protonated 1,3-dap units act as counter-ions interacting with the [PW9O34]9- polyanions via hydrogen bonds forming a three-dimensional framework.

Momordica charantia is a member of the Cucurbitaceae family having diverse biological activities. Two cucurbitane type triterpene glycoside have been isolated from 1-butanol soluble part of clear juice of M. charantia fruit pulp through column chromatography and HPLC. The isolated compounds were characterized as compound MC1 (3β, 7-O-β-glucopyranosyl-25-methoxy cucurbita –5-en-19-al) and compound MC2 (5β, 19-epoxy- 3- O-glucopyranosyl-25 methoxy cucurbita-6, 23-dien) with the help of UV Spectroscopy, Thin Layer Chromatography, IR Spectroscopy, 1H, 13C and dept-135 NMR. The proposed structures of the compounds were further confirmed by comparing the 13C-NMR values of the compounds with previous reported data. Dhaka Univ. J. Sci. 66(2): 145-149, 2018 (July)

In this research, the actions of antibiotic trimethoprim alone and with metals combained. Then assayed through formation of base transition metal compounds as ligands have the chance to achieve an unusual arrangement and stability complexes of coordination. We show advancement in using transtional metal compounds medications for treamentt manyl human illnesses such as carcinomas, lymphomas, control of infections, anti-inflammatory disorders, diabetes, with neurological conditions. This combination with transition metal observed the interaction can be separated by derivative spectroscopic method and measure the characterization of compound by IR and UV spectroscopy.
